Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Good morning ladies. Boy if any of you guys got the Ana Stone's my Favorite Major your in for a treat. I finished it yesterday and loved it. Major Philip Moore is so protective over Amelia. So good. I did my review last night if you want to check it out. I also read another one called Rake's Honour that one was also pretty good.

Was RAKE'S HONOR also by Ava Stone. I've been wanting to read MAJOR, but I have the prequel novel to that...the one where Phillip's former fiancee marries a duke, so I want to read that one first. I know if I read Phillip's story first, I'll probably end up hating the Duke. LOL

Read Ava Stone's Scandalous Pursuit first. But you won't wind up hating the Duke though he is a rake and a scoundrel. They are both at one of those boring house parties and there is a scavenger hunt. The duke is not involved with this he is to busy looking for a housemaid to diddle. But our h has on her list a button from the duke's jacket. It's the middle of the afternoon so she figures it's safe to go to his room and cut one off his jacket. While she is doing that she hears him coming in with one of the maids and jumps in the closet. The maid leaves he discovers her in the closet --then someone sees her leaving the room and so much to their surprise they find themselves married. So you see it really in't his fault.

I read the Major's story. It was good. Did anyone read the scandalous wife? I liked that too though I probably would have thought twice about buying it had I realized the incest that was in it. Just as well I didn't know.

Re the hand fasting. A friend of mind who is a writer told me that in hand fasting their was no such thing as living together a year and a day w/ conjugal rights . It's just a writer's tool to move the story along. But it has been used so many times it's taken as gospel.

I'm in a reading slump. I may reread The Scandalous Pursuit or look and see if there is anything new by Ava I haven't read.

I hope your not playing cards for money EB. Hate to see you come home without your paycheck.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Lol i am too cheap to play for money. Lol. I have read another book by Stone I liked it had a girl who hid in a wardrobe during the H rondevous. Heist not have completed bc I still know I liked it. As for being afraid you'd hate the duke the major does not dwell on Olivia very long and I didnt want her for him so the duke is still cool with me. The heart wants what it wants. He did make it up by helping him when he was shot in the back. I read a book by Hannah Howell and the couple were trying to evade the villain and so they hand fasted to validate consummation in case of any children and her protection. I can't remember the name. I believe in the book they also married over an anvil who shaped them rough rings and later the H gets her a real ring but she can't bare to let go of the old one bc it held such a happy memory for them. It was cute. I hope I didn't just mix two books together lol you get reading like we do and a year or so things tend to blend together. LMBO

So it sounds like the author of THE HANDFASTING is correct...a year and a day is an engagement. Once the agreement is consummated, they are considered married. Ummm interesting. Sehod have thunk it?

So in PURSUIT she was stuck in the closet listening to the H get it on with the maid? That's awkward!

That would be funny EB, if you mixed up two books. That's happened to me before. LOL

http://smile.amazon.com/Executive-Act...

http://smile.amazon.com/Wilderness-Tr...

http://smile.amazon.com/Tempest-Gisbo...

http://smile.amazon.com/Scoundrel-Hir...

This first one, EXECUTIVE ACTION is set in the 1970's and is chock full of political intrigue. The h and H are a married couple.

I could've sworn I'd already listed THE TEMPEST on a previous freebie list, but when I went over my list of all the freebies I've ever posted, it's not there. I could have missed it, but just in case, here it is. I believe we've had at least one of the other books in the trilogy on a past list.

That's it for today, ladies. A super short list. I hope you all find something of interest. TTYL!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments OMG RF I just posted my review for Under His Guidance while it was still fresh and get my free copy from KS. I'm going to read it next but my god let me tell you about my day. I've ben sitting with this lady for a couple weeks and the family personally requested me so I know what it is the family's goal for my client is. The family is awesome and so I feel I can tell them if there is a conflict and they will back us up. I found out today from her physical therapist tat she should sill be using her walker and here she told me that he said it was up to her. Oh did we butt heads bc ten she wants me to run and get her script and when I check in at the home office they told me to wait and go when the econ shift lady comes. She was so upset but I told her it s just until she gets better. But here for the past 5 days I let her go on without it not knowing any better. LOL The ladies at the office had a laugh but man was she mad at me and told me not to follow her. I was like you refuse to use your walker and I can't make you but I am responsible for your safety and your PT said our not ready yet. She just fell over the last time without any warning so she can either use her walker or I am going to be glued to her. LOL Anyhow I haven't checked out HS yet so I'm going to check it out no.

Good morning, ladies. Here's the freebie list. You may already have the first one...it's an old long time freebie, that has been re-added to the freebie section.

http://smile.amazon.com/Marys-Mail-Or...

http://smile.amazon.com/Bewitching-Ki...

http://smile.amazon.com/Cassie-Brides...

I'm not sure why the title of #3 is ILLEGITIMATE LADY. According to the book blurb the h is the daughter of an Earl and his Countess. The father is an ass, so when the H proposes to the h, she refuses because she thinks her mother needs her. Now daddy dearest is dead and mama love is engaged, the h is left hanging in the breeze. Not a lot of forethought went into refusing that marriage proposal, huh? Anyhow, I'm not sure how the illegitimate comes in.

LUCK OF THE IRISH sounds contemporary...there's mention of the h going to college, so it's at least later 1900's some time.

That's it for today, ladies. TTYL!

Good morning, ladies! Here's today's freebie list.

Anyone like vampire stories. If you do then the three book box set VAMPIRES should be right up your alley! FYI, from reading the book blurbs none of them sound even remotely historical, so I'm not sure why it was included in my search in the HR section.

The DAOINE title is a fantasy. It's a three book trilogy involving an ongoing story. As you all know, I check out the books very carefully for cliffhangers so I don't inadvertently include books where y'all are gonna end up having to spend a bunch of money to finish the story. Remember EB and the series, THE KEY? Anyhow, with DAOINE I checked and of course it's an ongoing story. The good news? All three books in the trilogy are free! So, if it sounds like your cup of tea, read with confidence. LOL

That's it for today, ladies. I hope you all find something in the list that entices you to download it. FYI, the first couple of reviews indicate that there is something henky with CELTIC SHORES. The first reviewer said it's a "copy and paste" of book 1. Sounds weird, but since I haven't read any of the books in the series, I got this one anyway. I'll have to do more in depth investigation later. LOL

I hate to be sexist, but I agree with you 100%. If it's written by a man, then it will probably be 80% action, 20% romance. If the action is good, it could still be a good read though, just not very romantic.

I know exactly what you mean, Kate. It brings to mind that one romance book I read, Seasons by Mario Sainic. He wrote a very nice romance story, between the hero and his dead wife. There was absolutely none with the woman who was supposed to be the h. When I read that book I got the impression that the author wrote a story he thought married women would like...a husband who pretty much martyred himself after losing his wife. The problem is that the romance was supposed to be between the H and a LIVING woman. The new h even looked and sounded (if you believe his 6 year old daughter) like the late wife. Oh, and she painted too, just like wife #1. The story should have been entitled REPLACEMENT WIFE. LOL

Here's the freebie list! The first one is by the same author who wrote one of the freebies listed yesterday; CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH. It's supposed to be another humorous regency.

http://www.amazon.com/Courting-Morrow...

http://www.amazon.com/Town-Called-Val...

http://www.amazon.com/Wish-Build-Drea...

http://www.amazon.com/Not-Bound-Time-...

I read and reviewed THREE WISHES FOR MISS WINTHROP. I gave it 4 stars. It is pretty true to the times, so the hero may not come off in the best light, if you know what I mean.

LADY IN THE MIST is a werewolf romance set in Civil War times. The h is the werewolf.

TAWDRY AND TEMPTATION is a set of two western novellas in one book.

TOWN CALLED VALENTINE is a contemporary romance that popped up during my search...not sure why.

FYI ladies, Lark gave a 1 star review for that freebie we had listed a few days ago, The Illegitimate Lady. Apparently it's just bad through and through, poor sentence structure, poor grammar, etc.

That's it for today, ladies. I hope everyone finds something from the list for their reading pleasure. TTYL!

Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies for today.

http://www.amazon.com/Soul-Shadow-Lil...

http://www.amazon.com/Pretty-Little-P...

http://www.amazon.com/My-Soul-Keep-Je...

http://www.amazon.com/Shades-Love-Swe...

http://www.amazon.com/Isabella-S-John...

Please note that SOUL AND SHADOW is an ongoing series. I'm not sure if it ends with a cliffhanger, but according to one reviewer at the end there are several unresolved issues with the love interest. Furthermore, when I read the blurb for book 2, the H was in England and the h in the States, or wherever the story is set. Bottom line, there aren't physically together.

I'm including this book only because one or other of you may have other books in the series and are waiting for this one. Also, I'm not a hundred percent sure that it does end in a cliffhanger. It's definitely one of those books, where the series continues with at least one of the protagonists solving mysteries. In this case, it's the h. FYI, I think this is a contemporary romance, or at least it's set in the later 1900's some time.

The same thing can be said for A PRETTY LITTLE PLOT. It's the first of an ongoing series about a early 1900's woman who wants to be a detective, but can't because of societal strictures. Nevertheless, she gets involved in one case after another. There is a love interest in this first book, but from reading the blurb for book 2, it seems like that romance does not get resolved in this first book. Seeing as our primary focus is usually the romance, I'm not sure how interested anyone will be in getting this book. I'm good with an ongoing mystery series, but I want the romance to reach it's climax in book 1, not end with unresolved issues.

I don't know what the heck WHEN THE CROWS FLY LOW is about. From the blurb it seems to be about a 69 year old man who is reliving his life in his mind and maybe trying to change his past somehow??? Or maybe he's trying to decipher how different his life would be if he had made different decisions. I don't really know. What I do know is that none of the reviews are the least bit helpful. Worse, three of the four have only reviewed this book, and the fourth has only written eight reviews, the last of which was last summer before reviewing this book this month. That makes me horribly suspicious, but seeing as the book is free, I guess that doesn't matter. I also don't know in what time period the story is set.

FASCINATING RHYTHM is set during the roaring 1920's. It's a murder mystery/romance. The H and h team up when the h's boss is murdered and she is the likely suspect. The H is the author of a book that was being published by the h's boss.

MY SOUL TO KEEP: ARION is book 3 in the trilogy. We've had the first two books on our freebie list before and right now book 1 is also free. This is a trilogy that I read and would not recommend...there was just too much going on in each book. Anyhow, I wrote reviews in case anyone is interested in check them out.

THE SHADES OF LOVE is a set of nine contemporary romance books.

That's it for today, ladies. I hope you all find something you like. BTW EB, I too hope you like TENDER better. But, from reading a review, it seems that her stories all suffer from the same problem...horrible editing!! LOL TTYL!

Ummm I can't remember, but I'm thinking something to do with the hand. LOL I'm almost done with the book I'm reading, McCarty's Highlander Unchained. It's good, but OMG I'm so over reading about how hot they are for one another, and how hard he is. It's beyond tiresome! If not for that I think I could have given it 4 1/2 maybe even 5 stars. But at this point it's a 4, maybe even a 3 1/2. There isn't a lot of actual sex, thankfully, and he doesn't consummate the relationship until marriage is on the table...at least for him. She sees things differently, but considering her past I could totally understand where she was coming from. I'm just tired of authors who can't find any imaginative way to create sexual tension. They have to use crude, graphic language and shove it in your face, instead of using subtlety. Ugh!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Pooh the highland knight's desire did have the couple having sex with no regard for her innocents which rubbed me wrong. He pulled out the first time but to prevent pregnancy. He even brought that up but then when they continued it was never mentioned again. If it's a contemporary I think you know to expect that but for HR I expect them to consider possible consequences. Even with CR I like them to wear condoms. I mentioned it iny review bc it was the main thing that brought my rating down to 3 stars.

Ya I read your review. In mine, I think you would be happy with when and how the sex went down. He told her that if they did the deed she would be his and had to accept the consequences; she agreed. He meant marriage, I don't know what the heck she meant, but when they were done and he started talking about getting married, she said no. Sigh. In her defense, her biggest fear is being married for what she brings to a marriage, rather than for herself. She's related to a powerful earl, and two powerful Highland chieftains. Plus her dowry is described as a King's ransom. Her mother was married for duty FOUR times, NONE of them were happy marriages. It finally broke her mother; that is the h's legacy and she is determined not to repeat it.

The H, unknown to the h, has struck a bargain with her cousin, the Earl. He ha to get her to agree to marry him in exchange for the cousin's help with freeing the H's younger brother, who is being held imprisoned by the King. He's not allowed to force her, so he has to woo her. LOL She doesn't know what his true motive is, but she's suspicious. Now they are in love, the H is wracked by guilt, but he can't take the chance of telling her the truth until after they marry. That is when the cousin will help free the brother. The H is also afraid that if she finds out before, even though he loves her, she will not understand and leave him. What a tangle. Sigh

I laugh when they use condoms in CR. Most times the h is on birth control, so presumably the condom is to prevent STDs. HOWEVER, the couple is getting down and dirty with the oral sex, with no regard to the fact that STDs can be transmitted that way. That makes me laugh!

Honestly, I'm reading what you write. I seen where you said you read and voted for my review, thank you, I just wanted to make sure since you said you were getting irritated by constant sex of my perception on A Highland Knight's it wasn't bad but maybe not what you want for the time being. The author does talk about every encounter but that's not what bothered me it was the H/h not thinking about marriage. I read Guilty Pleasures and I remember the h didn't want marriage either but the author did a really good job at convincing me it was believable. This in one the H lacked honor bc he took and never had a moment where he felt guilty for using her. The first encounter he is recovering from fever and she seduces him but not enough where he couldn't have stopped. He went to fetch her from her brother who is an Earl and he defiles her but does not even think to offer for her or think in his mind of hat he did being wrong. Now she does say it doesn't matter bc she's taking the veil but then I thought how would she think she could take her vows knowing herself to be so turned on by a man that she seduces him when he's sickly. LOL I did like it but those inconsistency gave me pause but I think if she could tweak some things she could be quite good.

Ya, so I read the last two chapters of that freebie, SOUL AND SHADOW. I couldn't tell you which one of the two men in the h's life is the H. I think it's Kent, the new guy, not Stephen the ex. However, at the end of the story, although there are obviously feelings between Kent and the h, nothing is really resolved. He has his issues to deal with, and she has decisions to make. Huh? At the beginning of book 2, according to the blurb for that book, Kent is in the UK, the h is in the US. Sigh! Needless to say, I'm deleting this book from my cloud. I don't want to get involved in a book where I'll be forced to read at least one other book to get closure to the romance.

Ya you and I are on the same page with the whole sex thing. In the HRs I don't like it when the H takes the h's innocence with no regard to a commitment. It's not like it is today where virginity doesn't matter. Like you said, it shows a lack of honor. I like there to at least be some feelings on the part of both parties; feelings other than just lust, but an element of caring. Thanks for the warning. I'll definitely not be reading that book any time soon. I think I might need a break from the Highlands actually.

I'm 73% into my book now and the H is so wracked with guilt about his deception of the h that he is contemplating some crazy scheme to free his brother on his own. That way, the bargain with her cousin will be null and void and his reason for needing to marry the h will be moot. That way she will know that he married her for herself and nothing else. You can tell her really loves her, but I know she's gonna be devastated when she discovers the truth. Poor baby!

Oh, and BTW I know that you're reading my comments, silly! I wasn't the least bit bothered by the fact that you had repeated yourself. As a matter of fact, your latest comment provided more insight into the whole sex deal in HKD. The sex and lack of commitment is one thing, the lack of even any thought towards a commitment makes it even worse!

How does that work if they are in different countries? Are they writing letters or I guess now texts, emails, phones. I only got four and now hat I'm looking that was one of them. I didn't think I snagged that one but I guess I did. LOL. I also got Berkshire lady and they mentioned in several reviews about a supernatural twist so I got curious. I do hate cliffhangers that force you into a whole series sometimes. I liked Twilight, FSOG and the Key series but not all books need to be that way especially when the book is only 80 pages. I like shorts though. So I guess as long as I know ahead of time I can prepare myself and read when I want a whole series.

Throughout the story I think they were together, or least part of the time. The h is hired by the H's grandmother for some job or the other. There is an ex, Stephen, and then there is the new guy Kent, who seems to be the H. From what I read, it looks like feelings develop between them, but by the end of the book there doesn't seem to be a commitment of any kind. The H lives in England, and at the end of th book there is some family crisis he'll be dealing with...it has something to do with the work that the h was doing for the grandmother, I think. I know that the h's mother is against the relationship because she doesn't want the h to move away to England with Kent. So, it seems there is a relationship, but I didn't see any declarations of love and the ex is very loving. At first I actually thought that she was with the ex, but then Kent showed up too and after their conversation it left me wondering. I'm not gonna read the damn thing, though. I just deleted it from my cloud.

It's one thing for an ongoing series if the romance is resolved in the first book, then the reader has the choice of reading the other books in the series. But in this instance, it would leave me feeling dissatisfied and I'd need to read book 2.

I think that is what bothered me about AHKD was the fact he felt no remorse like it was the normal to take virginity and move on. He struggled trying to understand why he had no desire for any other woman but that is hardly admirable just dumb but when he did finally realize he wanted her for wife he was very charming and sweet it was the journey to get there. LOL Dumb highlanders have been used several times before but usually they marry and fight their feelings. I do like the variety so I can't totally fault her attempt.

Okay I see what you are saying remember at the beginning of the year there was that series I read by Clarissa Wild Raveled By You? In that series I mentioned in my reviews in book 1 the h sleeps straight away with the H but her relationship with her boyfriend is unresolved. He is a selfish cruel man so she doesn't want to be with him but after spending the night with the Asian H she returns to their apartment ready to break up and confess the previous night. Well, the boyfriend doesn't give her the chance before he gets her tied to a bed and pulls some kinky things on her. Oral was one and I laughed bc she leave the first dudes apartment is in such a hurry doesn't put on panties comes back to this guy(eww gross) this man doesn't notice. Really? Poor planning on the authors end bc neither man used a condom so... Anyhow there was the book we read called Coming Home to You where that H did Oral on the slut ME he barely knew. He starts moving to the bedroom with her and just dives in and I'm thinking EEWWW you don't know where that's been. ROTFLMAO! It's like you said hello herpes. If she's giving it up to you after 6 seconds god only knows where else it's been. I know people who do live that life style but even in the FSOG safe sex and a clean bill of health was paramount. I still liked CHTY so she did her job overall.

Hahahaha Yes I remember you telling me about the series. And yes, I do remember that scene in CHTY and I too was grossed out by it. Oral between the H and h is one thing; I really don't want to read about it between the H or the h and another person. Ugh! I too still like CHTY though. LOL

I asked Brian when scientists had discovered that HIV and other STDs weren't transmitted via the oral exchange of body fluids. He looked at me like I was crazy. I had to explain that they must have made that discovery, because politically correct CR authors make such a big deal of highlighting condom use during sex, but toss oral sex around like it's no big deal. I figured I must have missed something. LOL

LOL I would have paid to see your husbands expression. I need you to check out these reviews on this book that popped up on my FB. It is a CR but all the reviews talk about it being so funny they almost pee there pants. That appealed to me it's called Fire Down Below. The reviews I read ere on Amazon not on here so I don't know if there the same. I just want to know what your vibe is from it. Any of you ladies can chime in it's 2.99 but if it's cute and funny I won't mind paying that. I am in the mood for silly.

All I can say is that you're in a very strange mood if you want to read that book. LOL It doesn't sound like something I'd want to read...too crazy! One reviewer (the 2nd one) referred to the creators of the television series South Park, which I love. She said they wrote a romance book it would be like FIRE DOWN BELOW. LOL I love that type of humor, but I don't know how much I'd love it in a romance. I'm trying to think if I have any crazy humor book in my collection that I would lend you to save you $2.99. I'm so cheap. Sigh

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments The blurb on GR was enough for me to buy it. Where you practice restraint I sometimes can be impulsive. Remember I work as a pharmacy technician for two years and you see it all so this book really sang out loud for me. I just read the encounter with her picking up her script and I am totally in. I'm weird like that. The h is so easy to identify with and I love the H. If the pharmacy I worked at was as much fun I would have stayed and enjoyed the eye candy. Lmbo

Well, enjoy! I hear you about the money...I too sometimes will find a book that just begs me to read it and if I can't find it at my library, I have to bite the bullet and buy it. They sound completely crazy to me. Maybe not something that I'd read, but I'd definitely watch the movie. LOL
