Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I'm home it was a short shift. I had a new lady and she's cute. A lot of confusion but still a sweetheart. I'm going to read some more and I'll let you know. It's actually a heat wave at 41 degrees. Lol

Oh I'm so glad. The one I'm reading now had been disappointing, especially after reading MARKED. Oh well, we can't win them all...unfortunately. Isn't Jake awesome?! I loved Rachel too.

A heat wave at 41 huh? Sadly, I can relate. I remember the good old days when I thought 41 was freezing.

I just finished reading my book. I gave it 2 1/2 stars. I wasn't feeling it at all. There are parts that were plain cheesy. Ugh! I posted my review. The book is Meant for Her. That's the worst CR I've read so far this year. The lowest rating I've given one prior to that was 3 1/2 stars. I think I have lower standards when it comes to CRs than HRs. There's so much more involved with making a HR realistic. Anyhow, EB I'm jealous because you have MARKED to read. I wish I could go back and read it again. LOL

Oh BTW Liz, I found a perfect quote for you in the book I'm reading...

"Her temper was fiery and explosive, often getting the better of her, but it was nothing compared to the remorse that typically followed. Becky was a pro at apologizing."

LOL Becky is the heroine's best friend, in that book I just finished. Do I need to mention that she's a redhead? ROTFL

BTW thanks for the link you sent me, but you do know it was on one of our freebie lists, right? :-)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Somehow I missed it on the list bc I didn't have it. Aspoon sent it to me and I shared. I sent it to you too Kate. The temper thing I can relate I hope I didn't scare you off Judy. I'm fine with it now. Btw who says you can't read Marked again. I feel awful for her brother and his finger. I wish I could loan it to you but there's a book called Gone Before Goodbye and this book in ways reminds me of it as does Coming Home To You. Psychopaths are a good addition to a book.

GONE BEFORE GOODBYE is the one you reviewed for NG, isn't it? Yeah, I did check it out and I see it's selling for $2.99. My loss. Sigh!

I can read MARKED again, but it's too soon. It's funny, but sometimes when I read a book that I love, I mean REALLY REALLY LOVE, it gets so intense for me and I have to distance myself from it. I'll think about it for days later, sometimes even weeks, and relive portions of it in my mind. MARKED was one of those for me. I couldn't read it again anytime soon. I felt the exact same way about BREAKING UP WITH BARRETT, although that one was a completely different type of romance from MARKED. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Jake and Rachel. I think the author did a superb job with the romance, don't you? I adored the way we got it from the very prologue that Jake wanted Rachel and intended to go after her. I was confused when we hit chapter one, six months later, and they weren't together--all because of lack of communication.

I have one that I just started, DIPLOMAT'S DAUGHTER. It seriously had me in stitches from the very first page. It's about an undercover agent, think James Bond. He and his two fellow agents are on an op. They are attending a diplomatic function looking for their target. Two of them, the hero included, are guests, while the third is a waiter. The one playing the waiter, Simon, is HELLA FUNNY!! He had me cracking up. He was complaining because he had to play waiter, while the other two got to be guests. He wasn't happy that he had to wear vinyl shoes and a polyester suit. LOL They have those earpieces through which they communicate. This is what Simon says to them...

"I will have you know that I have been standing for hours, and my feet are killing me in these horrendously cheap shoes. Luc will have to rub them in he plan going home."

Then later, when they finally apprehend the target, the hero, Jared, hears via his earpiece that Simon is down--he's been hurt. The H says "Simon, report. Are you all right?" This was Simon's response...

"Depends. Can you get blood out of polyester?"

Girl I couldn't contain myself. I laughed so hard, my side hurt. LOL The H accepts an assignment to protect the h, who he's been fascinated with for five years, even though they've never met. The books in the series are all 100-150 pages, and each sells for $4.99! Can you believe it? I would love to read Simon's story, but his book is only 110 pages. I can't justify spending five bucks on 100 pages, not when I have so many other books in my cloud to read. Oh, BTW it's free right now. I don't know how it's going to play out, because I've only read the first few pages so far. But here's the link in case anyone wants grab a copy.

Good morning ladies. The freebie list is starting off on a strong note today. The first book is the first in the Jerrica Knight-Catania's Whetherby Brides Series. I read two other books in that series, and liked them very much, so I'm happy about this find.

http://www.amazon.com/Gentleman-Never...

http://www.amazon.com/Spinster-Coquet...

http://www.amazon.com/Vienna-Affair-A...

http://www.amazon.com/Lost-One-Russia...

http://www.amazon.com/Highland-Barbar...

http://www.amazon.com/Dubious-Heir-Ly...

http://www.amazon.com/Hearts-Gold-Cal...

http://www.amazon.com/Captives-Emily-...

http://www.amazon.com/Taming-Heart-He...

http://www.amazon.com/Greek-Maiden-En...

http://www.amazon.com/Allisons-War-Ma...

Not sure where the SPINSTER one is going, but it's about two sisters; one a spinster, the other a coquette. The coquette is mentioned too much in the blurb for my taste, and she sounds like a complete flirt.

THE LOST ONE is a mystery intrigue story involving a family saga. The h is receiving unsolicited gifts from an unknown source, and it has something to do with her family history, and there is some danger to the h's life. No mention of a H in the blurb, and there are no reviews as yet, so I'm not sure if the plot includes a romance. At almost 500 pages, it better. LOL

I read and reviewed HIGHLAND BARBARIAN. My review is on the first page, so check it out before you hit that one click button. I rated the book 3 stars. It is extremely well written, but the story is such a disappointment! The h becomes Laird of her clan. She is only 17, but we are told she's been prepared for this her entire life. She's so strong, so fierce, but at her father's funeral she allows herself to be talked into marrying a man, when she doesn't really want to. From there her character just gets worse. She's been trained as a warrior, blah, blah, blah. Unfortunately, you never see any of this the entire story, and at the end she walks away from her clan to go be with the H who is laird of his own clan in the Highlands (the h is a lowlander). When she abandons her people, we are told that her sixteen year old sister will now become laird. The same sister that's supposedly has not been prepared to become leader. Had it been the H who walked away, he would be called dishonorable for abandoning his people, so I couldn't see how it would be any different for the h. Basically it was an annoying read.

For DUBIOUS HEIR I just went ahead and cut and paste the blurb. Sounds like it might be a historical fantasy, but I'm not sure. It's about a gigolo who is heir to the kingdom but doesn't know it. It takes place in a tavern in a university town. The crux of the story involves someone reading a diary. The client is the daughter of a well-known pirate. She employs the gigolo knowing he is the heir to the throne. Her plan is to kidnap him and hold him for ransom and the release of her father who is being held prisoner in the Dungeon of Luxonbulm. It sounds like it might be a historical, but I'm not sure with that mention of a "university town."

CAPTIVES is a medieval romance set during William the Conqueror's time. It's a new book; no reviews so far. The author's fairly new too. There are about 6 books listed on her Amazon page.

That's it for today ladies. Enjoy!

LOL Anyhow, I'm glad to hear your roads are good. That's something at least. I'm going to go drink a cup of coffee and read for a few. I have some house cleaning to do today, and of course, I've gotta give the kids some lessons. Sigh.

The book I'm reading is another Irene Hannon one. This one has officially made me a Hannon fan. She writes Christian fiction. Although I read that genre I find that sometimes authors make the characters too good, or make the story too preachy. I definitely haven't found that with Ms. Hannon. I know she writes all types of Christian romance, but I've only read her romantic suspense ones.

This one, An Eye for an Eye is really good. The h and H were teen sweethearts for one summer, when he was 17 and she 16. Now, twenty years later, they bump into each other in the park while they are both out running. There is a psycho after the h, and coincidentally, the day she bumps into the H is the day the killer decides to make his first move. He uses a sniper gun to shoot her, but the H manages to foil his attempt to kill her. From there the story progresses.

The H is only in the city on a temporary assignment with the FBI St. Louis office...he really with the Hostage Rescue Team in Quantico. For most of the book they aren't sure who the real target is, so the FBI has been providing her with some protection. The H too has been assigned a bodyguard. LOL

Anyhow, I like it a lot. The first two books I read by her were pretty good, but I like this one much better. Enjoy your day! TTYL

I did some reconnaissance on the book CAPTIVES that's on our freebie list today. I don't know what the heck it's about, but the h was taken captive during the Norman invasion and sent to Normandy. She was held captive by a cruel man, before she was removed and sent to another household. It seems she fell in love with that lord--her new captor--but he's married. At the end of the book, the h has returned to England and found her daughter--fully grown, married, and pregnant daughter. The man who MIGHT be the H is dead and the h is alone. WTH?! I don't think this is a romance--not my type of romance anyway. It's also amateurish. The writing isn't terrible, but the book is obviously written by a fairly new author. It's one of those books that have a million chapters, each about two pages long--I'm exaggerating, but you get the drift. Anyhow, just thought I'd share my thoughts. I'm deleting it from my Kindle. It's not terrible, but I've got too many other books to read to bother torturing myself with this one.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I got home to kick back and got called with another new client so I work 5-11 today, tomorrow and Wednesday 7-3. Awesome. She's only a temporary so I'm sucking some hours while I can. Plus she's only 4 miles from my house. I am in the mood for a romance with a good villain. I don't have time to go through my freebies today maybe later.

Ya might as well grab the hours while you can. With your type of work, sometimes it pours, sometimes it only drizzles. It's kinda nice though, because then you work hard then get a break. We've been holed up all day. Just got another email saying my son's preschool is closed tomorrow, AGAIN! No word so far regarding my daughter's school. Sigh

I'm almost done with the book I'm reading, and am already thinking about what to read next. I got a lot of cleaning done today--a lot for me, that is. The entire second floor was cleaned, so that just leaves the downstairs for tomorrow. Oh, the joys of cleaning.

Hey Kate! Oh man, you're still dealing with the pneumonia?! I hope you're taking care of yourself--and I hope your family is doing their part too. I'm glad to hear that you're leaving them to their own devices. How are you feeling?

Yes, I think you're right about my review of HB...two stars was probably more in line with how I felt. I really disliked the h. IMO the author built her up too much then totally failed to deliver. Oh, and that part with the Queen--beyond ridiculous. I don't know anything about the real Mary, Queen of Scots, but in the story she came across as an immature, selfish twit! I gave it 3 because it was so well put together, and because I hate to give negative reviews. What can I say? I'm a softie. LOL

I'm still on my contemporary romance kick, and more specifically romantic suspense CR. I've read a few in a row, and I'm in the middle of yet another one, with at least one more lined up to go after this one. I don't know what's up with me lately, but I'm just going along with the flow. Take care of yourself.

I read your review and the author's comment. I just love it when an author tells you that their book is an "award winner." So what? Winning an award doesn't mean that EVERYONE loved the book, just that a bunch of bureaucrats decided it was worthy of an award. Maybe a lot people read it and loved it, but that has no bearing on your opinion. I see she wrote her comment in a "nice" manner, but basically, nice or not, she was saying it won an award so who are you to criticize? In other words, she's giving it the brush off. Ugh!

I also think it's ironic that she mentions that what we consider acceptable as romance changes...so what? Women nowadays thinks it's cool be be plied with alcohol and tricked into having sex?

kate | 203 comments It made me wonder if she was pals with Bill Cosby.

I don't think there is any era in history where getting a woman drunk to take advantage of her was considered ok. No less a 17 year old kid whose just left home because her father beat her unconscious and loosened her teeth.

I cannot believe I am the only woman to have objection to this. But I do think in 1988 that there was not much in the way of public reviews. I'm sure the writer is marshaling her troops and within a week we'll see a plethora of 5 star reviews.

What I find curious is that for a book that's supposed to be so great--enough to have won an award--there are only two reviews. Makes one wonder how she won the award? Was one of the criteria popularity? I'm having my doubts. Besides, I hate it when an author feels the need to comment and defend their work when they get a negative review. Just say thank you and move on--that's the classy thing to do. "I'm sorry you didn't like the book, blah, blah, blah." End of story. Or if the person says they didn't like it, but don't give any specifics, then you could ask the person for more info...you know, on the premise that the negative feedback might be helpful. The fact that the book has won an award is totally irrelevant. Furthermore, even if there was a time when getting unsuspecting women drunk, and taking advantage of them was considered romantic, that too is irrelevant to YOUR opinion. Just because something may be acceptable to others, doesn't mean everyone is gonna like it. Ugh!

Good morning, ladies. I hope you are all taking good care of yourselves. My daughter is finally going back to school today; although my son's preschool has once canceled. Ugh! And I'm told we have another storm heading our way sometime tomorrow. So, this may be it for school for the rest of the week.

Anyhow, here's the list.

http://smile.amazon.com/Two-Notorious...

http://smile.amazon.com/Silken-Thread...

http://smile.amazon.com/Warrior-Woman...

http://smile.amazon.com/GUINEVERE-Med...

http://smile.amazon.com/Legend-Lady-M...

http://smile.amazon.com/Vision-Atlant...

http://smile.amazon.com/Cowboy-Hire-D...

WARRIOR WOMAN is not our usual type of romance; it's set during biblical times.

I don't think I need to tell you what GUINEVERE is about. LOL

LEGEND OF LADY MACLAOCH is a present day story about a family curse. The H is the laird of the clan; the h and American--I think she may also be a descendant of the clan. Anyhow, they get involved when the h goes to Scotland to research her bloodlines and stumbles on the H's family curse--I think their ancestors were lovers who were torn apart, hence the overlap between the two families. I'm not sure if there is any time travel involved, but I don't think so. It doesn't say in the blurb, and none of the reviews I quickly perused made any mention of TT.

COWBOY FOR HIRE is set in the early 1900's. It about an H who takes a part in a movie to make money for his ranch, and a h, who is a recently discovered actress. They play in the movie together; love blossoms, blah, blah, blah. LOL

Anyhow, that's it for today, ladies. I hope you all find something to interest you. TTYL!

Okay, so you guys wanna hear something bizarre? For most people this probably would be very normal, but for me, it's extremely strange. I started reading Julie Garwood's The Ideal Man and about 27% in, I stopped. I. Just. Stopped! I NEVER do that! I'm one of those crazy people who cannot stop reading a book, no matter how bad it is. If I really HATE the book and just can't take it anymore, I usually will stop reading it and then just flip through the rest--when I flip I go through page by page and speed read. LOL

In this instance, it's not that I hated the book. On contrary, while I was reading it it kept me engaged, but there were things about it that I found a bit irritating, and I just knew it was going to get worse. Now you all know how much I love Julie Garwood--or most of you do. I've read all her historical stuff and loved them, but as far as I can recall I've never read any of her CR stuff. Well now that I'm on the CR kick, I figured I'd give her contemporary stuff a try. As much as I love JG, I have to admit that her books tend towards a certain sameness--the other worldly beautiful h, the overly big, muscular H who is sexy, but not conventionally handsome, blah blah blah. It makes reading her stuff back to back a little difficult. Sigh!

Anyhow, I had to take a break from reading the book so I could clean my kitchen and while cleaning I had to ask myself whether or not I was willing to put hours into a book that was already proving to me annoying. To my shock and surprise, my answer was "no!" And not only that, I then promptly picked up my Kindle and before I could change my find, I returned the book to the library! Aren't y'all proud of me? I know I'm proud of me. LOL

Here's the synopsis of the book. The H is a FBI Agent. The h is a trauma doctor; she's just finishing her fellowship--four days away from completion. She witnesses the shooting of an FBI agent while out running in the park. They were doing a sting that went wrong, so there were a bunch of agents, around including the H. His description is typical Garwood, big, sexy, not conventionally handsome. Sigh!

The h's description is beyond annoying. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous, she's super smart--as in she's a flipping prodigy! Really?! Although her age is never given, not up to where I stopped reading anyway--we're told she looks college age. What's that, early/mid twenties? I'm not sure. To complicate the plot, not only does she witness the shooting, which makes her a target for the bad guys (yes they got away), but she also has her own stalker from childhood. She was stalked at the tender age of 11 by a 17 year old psycho, who tried several times to kidnap her, then finally succeeded and almost killer her. She was twelve at the time. Her parents decided she should go into hiding, so when she was released from the hospital they sent her to live with friend, and she "finished college." YES! She was in college at age 12. So, now that she's completed her fellow I have no idea how old she is. Presumably she flew through college, and maybe even med school, but no matter smart she is, she'd have to put int he time for her internship, residency, and fellowship. So, I'm thinking later twenties. I'm obsesses with the age thing, I know.

Anyhow, she can't identify the would be killers, but she's already on their radar as a possible witness so there's a contract out to kill her. Of course he own stalker comes back into the picture at some point--don't know when or how, but at the end of the book I learned he was now dead. Then there's her bitchy sister who is marrying her ex-fiance. From what I read of the reviews the sister, is a total piece of work, a complete bitch, and the h just take she bullshit. That sister never gets her comeuppance. Ugh

Well that's the gist of what I've learned about the book, from what I read of it, from reviews, and from my speed reading through the last couple of chapters. I bailed and I'm happy about it. Now I can go on to a better read--hopefully! But, first I to go to church for our Rosary service. It's being held in lieu of this week's CCD classes. Sigh.

TTYL!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Ok so I go on FB and today was the day that the winner would be announced for the review contest on that dramatic episode from last week right? The author announced me and this other chick as the winner. Her name is Angel and I hope this doesn't sound bad but her review is like 3 sentences, really? Again, I know that sounds ungrateful but I feel like she only chose mine bc of all the drama last week. The Cartan girl or whatever her name was that complained on Aspoons review had a better review. I hate to say that but maybe bc of all her viciousness on line the author didn't want to be associated with her or it is in fact a friend or family member either way the Angel review is a highly suspicious choice IMO. Did I tell you I deleted all my posts and the chick was accusing Aspoon of tattling to Amazon. Well I told Aspoon and she wrote this awesome comeback to her and today I look and her comment was deleted by Amazon. LMAO The trouble makers comment was left and was rude as hell but they only deleted Aspoon's. Ana thought that they would anyhow but yea whatever.

And so the saga continues. ROTFL Well whatever the reason you won, congrats! What'd you get? A book?

BTW I forgot to mention in my rant above about that blasted book I tossed to the curb that the H is cynical about marriage, and has never had a serious relationship--serious being defined as 3 months or more. He tells the h that "the women I take to bed know that there isn't any long term anything" or something to that effect. This conversation they have while he is taking her home. When they get back to her place he kisses her and asks her if she wants him to leave. Her response? "I guess I can try casual." WTF?! I lost respect for her at that point. I know that there are lots of women who are into casual sex, but I don't like my heroines to be that type. Later in the book her sister ends up pregnant for a man who ends up leaving her; someone that she barely knew. Turned out he was a SEAL on an undercover mission so he couldn't tell her the truth about himself. At the end of the book he shows back up--one year later--to ask her to marry him. By this time she had had their baby, who was a few months old. Now, how the hell can you be having unprotected sex with a man that you barely know? BTW that's not the sister who marries the h's ex-fiancee; it's the other twin that has the baby our of wedlock. I guess these sisters are all tramps...prodigy or not. LOL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments A signed copy of the book. That book sounds awful I'd rant too. See you don't need cable for drama with me and my Amazon/FB stories. Btw I met the sweetest client this week and she is the violet queen. She has all these violets and she is so stink in' cute with the care she gives them. The family requested me to be her caregiver I was so flattered. She is fiercely independent and recovering from two falls but her and I get along like peas and carrots. Lol so I got my schedule all filled up next week. She is a retired RN and sharp as a tack I tell you but she loved my broccoli cheddar soup so I'm going to cook her up some next week and freeze it so she can pop it in her microwave whenever she wants. So much fun. Lol okay I will let you know about book 2 btw in the HTR series.

LOL Sounds like you're all set for FSOG. I can't wait to hear your feedback. I only hope it doesn't end up disappointing you. I know how much you've been looking forward to it. Handcuff earrings, Liz? Really? You've taken crazy to a new high! ROTFL That's hella funny that little old ladies wen to the parody. I wonder if they knew what it was about before the attended? LOL

You're welcome re the lists. It's my pleasure. Even though you didn't make it yesterday, you should still check out that list. Oftentimes books remain free for several days before the prices get hiked back up. BTW congrats on the book you won. I assume it's by the same author?

Yes, my book wasn't very good. It wasn't awful, but the heroine was completely unrelatable. I mean did she have to be young, gorgeous, AND a f'ing prodigy? Could she at least wear frigging glasses? I just don't understand why she couldn't have been a normal woman--smart and beautiful, in her early to mid thirties, finishing up her fellowship. That's one thing with Garwood, her freaking heroines are always over the top perfect.

There's a story about saving a man's life in a restaurant. Her date was another doctor, a psychiatrist, who thought the guy was having a heart attack and was giving CPR. Supposedly he was eating up the attention of all the other patrons and wouldn't listen when the h told him the guy was actually chocking. She ended up having to push him aside--with her foot--and saving the guy's life. By this time I was rolling my eyes. I didn't hate the book, but I didn't care about the characters. The h was way too perfect--like other world perfect. It was annoying!

Yes, let me know about book two of HTR. It's ready to go whenever you're ready.

It's [book:Hidden|15096138]. It's gotten a lot of good reviews; like several hundred of them. So has all the other books in the series, but I think this one is her debut. We'll see.

Haha That's so true. They are a raunchy set. I know from my nursing days in Florida...it's the senior state of the country. Ya my mom is in her early seventies and sometimes when we talk about the books we read, whooo whee. Hot, hot, hot. LOL She's a contemporary romance reader, so u can imagine.

BTW I'm reading this book and one line says that the h grinned silently. It's there any other way to grin? I mean if it was a grin with a sound, wouldn't it then be a chuckle, a laugh, or maybe even a guffaw, NOT a grin? These are the things I'm thinking about as I'm reading this book. Not a good sign. I'm just not mentally engaged in the story as yet.

Now here we are starting a whole new level but their acting as though people will be having attack of vapors in the theatre seats. Good morning, ladies. I did it again! I clicked on submit and lost my blasted freebie list. OMG! I could shoot myself, I'm that annoyed. Anyhow, I've gotta get my son to school this morning, so now I'm going to provide an abbreviated list. It's not so bad, because a number of the books were repeats anyway. So here goes...

http://smile.amazon.com/Blue-Door-Tri...

http://smile.amazon.com/Beyond-Blue-D...

http://smile.amazon.com/Beyond-Blue-D...

http://smile.amazon.com/Twisted-Labyr...

http://smile.amazon.com/Autumn-Sonata...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008...

http://www.amazon.com/Titan-Drowns-At...

THE BLUE DOOR says it's a trilogy, but there are FOUR books. You figure that one out. Anyhow, it's a time travel story; modern day h finds a blue door that leads to other times.

AUTUMN SONATA is a World War II story. H and h have a whirlwind romance and marry, then the H is reported missing, believed killed. That's all the details provided by the blurb, and the two reviews are useless. Sigh!

Funny story; SECRET VALENTINE has been on my Kindle Wishlist forever. Yesterday, I noticed the priced had been reduced to .99 cents, but because I'm so cheap I decided not to buy it. Lucky thing because today it's FREE! Sometimes it pays to be cheap. ROTFL FYI, it's a novella.

TITAN DROWNS is a the 6th book in the New Atlantis Time Travel series. Book 11 was on our freebie list yesterday, and is still available for free today.

That's it for today, ladies. Gotta run. TTYL! I'm making a copy of this comment BEFORE I click the post button. Ugh!

Hey sometimes a well thought out negative review can induce to read a book--it depends on the reader's reason for disliking the book. Of course I've read negative reviews then gone ahead to read the book, only to have to later eat crow! ROTFL

I think I'm in a reading slump. I stopped reading that one book too easily yesterday, and now I'm in the middle of another one that is pretty good, yet it's not keeping me engaged. When I think of maybe reading something else, even going back to HR, I'm drawing a blank as to what I'd like to read. I've now reverted to my usual crime documentaries. Right now I'm watching Dateline. Foster daughter kills foster mother; with further investigation it looks like foster dad was involved. You can't make this stuff up!

Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies for today. This first one advises that it contains explicit sexual content and adult situations. It's a romance, not erotic, but I just thought I'd point it out. One of the 3 star reviews says don't look for a perfect happy ending, because there isn't one...just a reality check. Not sure what that means, but I plan to download and investigate. LOL

http://smile.amazon.com/Always-Come-H...

http://smile.amazon.com/Averill-Histo...

http://smile.amazon.com/Midnight-Kiss...

http://smile.amazon.com/Rebels-Daught...

http://smile.amazon.com/Jane-Austen-D...

http://smile.amazon.com/Young-Bucks-R...

http://smile.amazon.com/Handfasting-B...

http://smile.amazon.com/Love-Foot-Abo...

http://smile.amazon.com/Sunniest-Tenn...

http://smile.amazon.com/Bride-Price-H...

I'm not sure if REBEL'S DAUGHTER is a romance or not. There is no mention of a H in the blurb. I think it's set during medieval times.

YOUNG BUCKS OF RAYBURN PARK is the third Rayburn Park title that has made it to our freebie list. It's the third in the series.

Liz, I hope the JANE AUSTEN book is one that you like. The last few we've tried have all been a bust for you.

I'm sorry, but THE HANDFASTING just sounds too funny! The h is determined to never marry a warrior. She has EIGHT warrior brothers, plus her father; she's had enough of trying to hold her own against headstrong men. She wants a bard or a poet or some such. ROTFL Of course that is NOT what she gets. FYI, this is the entire series...the book was previously released in three parts; BOLD, TANGLED and TORN.

LOVE A FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND is set in the 1960's. From the book blurb I get the impression that it's based on a true story, but I'm not positive. It's a story that was told to an author in the 1980's when she was only 9 years old. However, that is not the person who is named as the author of this book, so it's a little confusing.

The Traherns are a hoot. I own every single one of the books--all twelve of them. LOL Now I see there is a 13th one...THE SUNNIEST GAL FROM TENNESSEE. It's a series of novellas about the Trahern family--brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. They are all told in the first person from the POV of whichever Trahern is the H or h. I've only read a couple of them. So far I like the ones with the female family members better than the male. The men tend to go off on tangents about nonsensical crap when they are telling the story. LOL

THE BRIDE PRICE is sent in Arabia. It's about a Creole heroine who travels from the US to Morocco to be with her father. She's then kidnapped and headed for the harem of a lecherous wastrel, but there is an attraction to the wastrel's uncle? That's what it sounds like. I think said Uncle is to be the H.

That's it for today, ladies. TTYL!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Well ladies the two notorious dukes was a bust. The writing is confusing at best and God the author paints all of England whore mongers. Can't say I wasn't warned though. I made it to 8% and flipped to the last and seriously the h had just given birth and the H enters with his new son and asks her when they can start trying for another. If what I had already read was better it might be ok but knowing what I did forget it. The duke was hurt by love b4 and was adamant about not doing it again his stepmother married his father at 16 and he was a lot older than her could barely seal the deal so a week later he introduces her to this friend so that he could take his place in the bedroom. So now she wants the son to marry this widow which is the h. There is no depth in the characters it is all shaply breasts and throbbing cocks. Sorry ladies but it was bad. The h was abused and so I was curious bc that story line can make for a good read but this was shallow and weak along with the poor writing style....blah! Yes today is the big day and I have been hearing some promising feedback. Jamie Dornan the man playing CG is married! Could you imagine ladies seeing your husband so intimate with another lady. OMG they just had a daughter and she says she won't watch it. I smell BS. Anyhow I've heard some say not enough sex but others said more than they thought. The article I read in Glamour said Dakota Johnson is tied naked on a bed and they actually had a dominant in the red room during filming. Lol. I think if you go in with an separate opinion from the book the movie will be able to be more pleasant of an experience. It's amazing how people respond to the movie. The lady who sold me the Glamour magazine ran over to get her own copy and went into her whole spiel about her take on the books and upcoming movie.

Wow! It sounds like TWO DUKES really is over the top erotic! I know it gave a warning, but usually with romance novels that just means it's a little racy.

There is a woman in Australia who saw the movie and said she hated it. She said "it's domestic violence dressed up as erotica" and "it makes Mills and Boons seem like Dickens." LOL Anyhow, I heard the clip on the radio station. The thing I didn't like is the fact that the bitch of an announcer said she didn't like the Australian woman because she was "a hater." And she kept harping on the fact that the woman hadn't read the book. So what? Now we have to read the book before we're allowed to see the movie and have an opinion about it?! Ugh! Obviously the announcer read the book and loved it, but she hasn't seen the movie as yet. The announcer also said that maybe when she's sees the movie she'll have a bad review, and if that happens that's okay. So, umm what does that mean, that it's okay for YOU to have a bad review, but not the Australian woman? WTF! I seriously wanted to bitch slap her.

SHE was the one who was a hater. She also made some crass remark about the Australian woman's children (who knows if she even has children)--"Her kids are stupid." I think people may end up fighting over this stupid movie. Just like they did over the books. Ugh! Be careful when you go, Liz. It could be a war zone. ROTFL

Yes the actor said his wife doesn't want to see the movie. He said he didn't blame her and that it was up to her whether or not she watched it. He was cool either way. He said she knew it was all pretend, yet still...

I didn't read at all yesterday. I just wasn't in the mood. I'm gonna try to get back into my book today. Enjoy the movie. I can't wait to hear your feedback! I told my husband that as much as I disliked the book, had CH been the lead I would have gone. I also told him that I would have worn two pantyliners. He hated that visual aid. ROTFL It's crass, I know. Sigh

kate | 203 comments Your right EB Two Notorius Dukes was a bust. I didn't even flip to the end.

Good list today RF. I pulled The Rebel's Daughter and I'm going to start the traherne one when I get off the computer. Feel like something light.

I got my hand slapped for a review I did Gideon's Secondhand Wife last summer. One reviewer said she just LOVED the author and the other one that I only wrote negative reviews. Neither one mentioned any info on the book itself so I doubt they read it. I may be paranoid but I think its fallout from my Hearts of Gold review. Ask me if I care.

By the way I had the same complaint in both books. I didn't like the hero. He needs a wife because his first wife is dead. After she had her first baby the doctor tells him she has cancer and should not get pregnant again. He gets her pregnant 3 more times in the next 4 years and then complains to the second wife she didn't fight enough to live. Seriously. Horny bastard.

message 1498: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Well RF all I can say to anyone who wants to see the movie and not read the book is do some research first. Read different reviews than when you see the movie your not shocked. To those who complain it's demestic violence understand what is taking place. Dakota said in one scene he throws her on a bed and she actually got whiplash. Idk I'll have to see first b4 I draw a conclusion. The wife thing though I just have to feel bad for what's going to happen bc this will be what her husband is known for and yet she will be separate from that. Just as a wife I feel I would hate that bc you want to support but your excluded from it at the same time. I don't blame her bc I wouldn't want to my husbands mouth on another woman's crotch. Real or not.

That reminds of that poor psychotic woman in Texas who killed her five children. Remember her, Andrea Yates? The couple was told that she shouldn't have anymore children. It wasn't good for her mental health, but the bastard continued to get her pregnant. They were devoutly Christian, and he was a domineering idiot. She, poor thing, wasn't in her right mind. When she killed the kids, he had the nerve to play victim. If there is a God then he suffers the guilt of knowing that he's just as responsible for his children's death as their psychotic mama. Ugh!

Gosh, TWO DUKES sounds awful! Now you've all got me curious so I'm gonna have to check it out. LOL

So Is SECONDHAND WIFE by the same author as HEARTS OF GOLD? I just love it when stupid people leave ridiculous comments on people's reviews. I'm gonna have to go check it out. Someone accused you of only giving negative reviews? That is such an incorrect statement; I hate when people exaggerate. I'm hating a lot of stuff today. LOL

BTW Kate, don't forget that I have all the TRAHERNS, so if you decide you wanna read any of the others feel free to borrow. I can't swear for most of them, though.
