RF, Don't worry about it. I have so many books at this point it will be quite a while before I would even get to it. Besides after reading the one-star review about her being "teary eyed" on practically every page...lol

Ok Ladies, here's the freebie list for today. FYI, this is a duplicate post of the comment I posted in our Event discussion earlier this morning. I realized kind of late that I had posted the freebie list in the wrong discussion. LOL

Ok, so I read HIS PRAIRIE PRINCESS. It was a fairly good read, but the H was a pig farmer of all things and I just couldn't get past that. Add to that the fact that he was actually English and spoke with a British accent, and I couldn't reconcile these facts with the image in my head. When I read westerns I want a sexy, AMERICAN, cowboy who says things like darlin', ma'am, and howdy! That just wasn't happening in that book. Nevertheless, it did make for an entertaining read.

Here's another of those .99 cent deals.

http://smile.amazon.com/Sweet-Surrend...

That's it for today, ladies. Nothing new that I noticed. Scratch that, here's a new one. Sounds good--it's a time traveling female FBI agent who hooks up with a historical Sheriff. There's a mystery to solve with lots of intrigue. Sounds yummy! It's new, so you know the drill--grab it before it goes back to full price!

Good Morning, Ladies! Here are a few freebies for today. BTW do we all read contemporaries? I could start checking for freebies in that genre too--especially as I'm so close to being done with the "regular" freebies in the historical genre. Let me know!

Ladies please note that the first three books in the list is a complete series--yes, all for free! It has something to do with EB's favorite, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I think it's a spin-off of some kind, but it sounds pretty unique. EB, make sure YOU check this out TODAY!--just in case the prices go back up.

Good Morning, ladies! Happy Columbus Day! I hope you all have a wonderful day with your families. Today's freebie list is super abbreviated. I'm kind of pressed for time today. If you haven't as yet, check out the freebie lists from over the weekend. Also, I haven't heard any feedback regarding freebies in the contemporary romance genre--should I, shouldn't I? I put the question to you yesterday. FYI, the first book below is a new one--it hasn't been free in a while--so grab it while you can, if you're interested. TTYL!

FYI ladies, I just discovered that the freebie I listed a couple days back, COURTING TROUBLE, is the first in a two book series. There is no HEA, at least not an HEA like we're used to in romance books.

SPOILER ALERT...

The h decides to accept her fate as a spinster and devote her life to Christ instead. This is a Christian historical fiction book, NOT a romance. There is a sequel that sells for $9.99--!!!!!--in which the h finally finds her true mate. I think the moral of COURTING is that the h was so obsessed with finding a husband that she was not living her life according to God's plan--at least that's the impression I got. Please note, I have NOT actually read the book, but did do my usual reconnaissance before reading a book--in other words I read the ending of the story. LOL. Thank God I did! I would've been totally passed off if I'd read that entire book only to discover the h ended up alone--well she ended up with Christ as her "one and only." Yet still, I was expecting a romance book with a flesh and blood partner. The problem is that the book is erroneously listed as a historical romance...or at least it erroneously pops up when one does a search in that genre.

Anyhow, consider yourselves warned. I'm not saying the book's not worth reading, but if it's romance you're looking for this ain't it!!! BTW despite the lack of HEA, this book is a stand alone. Many readers will find the ending satisfactory, as we are left with the distinct impression that Kate has accepted God's plan for her life--whatever it may be--and is happy. It's only if you care about a romance that you would need to move on to book 2.

Hey Noreen and EB. I like spoilers and LOVE reading the ending of books before reading them--used to do that all the time before BUYING a book, but I realize that most people are not THAT into spoilers. Anyhow, in this instance, I figured I'd better warn you all. I mean CT is no short length book, it's a full-length novel and if I had read that entire book hoping for a good resolution of a romance, I would have been VERY disappointed. She apparently does become engaged, but then realizes she's just forcing things.

BTW ladies, I still haven't received any feedback as to whether it's worth it for me to search through contemporary romances for freebies. EB you read contemporary, don't you? Anyone else? Let me know your thoughts. The regular historical freebie list is whittling down. Pretty soon we may have days when there aren't any new ones, while on other days we'll hit the jackpot. That's just the way it goes. So, maybe then I could start with the contemporaries, assuming everyone has an interest in that genre.

You're welcome, Noreen. Well once the historical freebies start to slow down, maybe I'll start doing a run through of the contemporaries. I know EB reads them, and I do too, although only on occasion. I used to read contemporary romance all the time, but over the years I've lost interest to an extent.

RF~ I'm glad you had a nice flight. Enjoy your friends wedding. The Starter Wife is hitting the mark with me as well. I haven't had much time to read and so it's killing me. Did you ever get the images of your characters just suspended in time locked in your mind? They're just waiting for you take their story further. LOL! The h is going through a divorce and has 3 kids that try her patience daily. Her neighbor is this strong hunk that has turned out to be a brilliant friend and they are both hot for each other. They are holding back which would be wise because I don't want him to be the rebound guy. He is a boxer as it turns out. ********SPOILER**********
She found out her ex husband was carrying on with prostitutes and needed to get checked out for STD's and when the results came back she found out she's pregnant. To make matters work she has a flashback of their last time she was with her husband and it was an absolute nightmare of how rough and cruel he was to her. It's really turning into a good read if I could have some time to enjoy. LOL!

Oh God, I'm glad YOU'RE enjoying that book, but it doesn't sound like something I'd like. First off, it's a contemporary! LOL Then there's all those kids. I'm ok with kids, but I much prefer if neither the h nor the H have any, and then only one, MAYBE two. And if there has to be kids, I prefer if the H has a daughter and the h has none. Damn, I'm picky.

MURDER AT LOCKE ABBEY was a good read. I think I'll rate it 4 stars. The h is something of a genius. This book is a sequel to another and the h in this book is the daughter of the protagonists of the first book--I can't remember the name of the first book right now, but I do have it. Anyhow, the H calls in the h's father to help solve the mystery of two murders that occurred on his estate during a house-party. The guests are now all convinced it's due to supernatural causes, but he, of course, does not believe that. The h's father usually works as a team with her mother, but the she had an accident and couldn't accompany him so he took the h with him instead. The h has also worked with her parents for years, helping to solve mysteries.

When they first meet, the H is very attracted to the h, who has been unlucky in love. She was engaged twice and on both occasions the men broke if off because they found the h too intimidating. She is extremely brilliant, forthright, and blunt. Quite a handful. The H is the first man of whom the h's father approves. The father plays a big role in the story, but we don't meet the mother until at the end of the book. I'm intrigued enough by the parents to want to read their story next, but I'm reading HEALING first. The loan ends on the 20th!!!

Anyhow, the story is good, but the book needs polish. It could benefit from some editing and the author does play a bit fast and loose with the societal strictures, so historical purists might find that irritating. However, the story is set in the later 1800's sometime after the railway was started and the social rules then were much more relaxed than the regency period...I'm also not as familiar with that time period in England--I think it might be the Victorian age?--and I'm not a purist anyway so I was ok with the leeway the author took.

What annoyed the crap out of me was her obvious lack of knowledge of proper forms of address. The h has the title of lady--I have my doubts that her father is an actual peer and not a younger son, but I'm willing to assume he's a peer, which means the h could be a "lady." The author properly has the h addressed as Lady Athena at times, but at other times she is addressed as Lady Copley (which is her last name) which is absolutely WRONG!! Unmarried ladies are never lady last name, they are always lady first name, and remain that way until death, UNLESS they marry a peer, such as a baron, earl, etc. Then they become lady whatever their husband's title is. It is the so ANNOYING to me when authors make this mistake because it is so unnecessary! Ugh!!!! I was able to ignore it at first, but by the time I'd gotten halfway through the book and the h introduced herself as Lady Copley I darn near gnashed my teeth! It really does take away from my enjoyment of the story, even though it seems such a small issue. I know many readers don't know or don't care about proper titles and forms of address, but for me it is a HUGE pet peeve! **END OF RANT** ROTFL

What you should know is that this book is a little bit more mystery than it is romance. The two elements are almost equal, but if I had to choose I'd say the mystery is slightly more the focus. For all that, the romance is really very sweet and I liked the way the father subtly encouraged the match between the two. The h is a most unusual woman, just like her mother, who is also a genius, so the father knew that she had to have a special man to make her happy. I really enjoyed it and I'd say if you're in the mood for a mystery, it's definitely worth a read.

Well, gotta go. I'm going to go get ready. The wedding is at five, but we have a bloody two hour drive to get there, and my step-father wants to leave an hour earlier than necessary! Damn! TTYL

LOL We all have our little quirks. If Tanya Anne Crosby doesn't stop using lines like "He kissed her pate on the top of her head", I'm going to scream! My mind reads that as "He kissed her head on the top of her head", and I come to a complete stop...the involvement in story gone.

I actually grabbed that Murder at Locke Abbey but haven't read it. Not my normal type of read but I am finding myself enjoying a mix lately.

Hahaha that's hella funny, Noreen! I can totally relate! That's exactly the way I feel about the title thing. Ugh! You might like MURDER. It's a house party with a couple murder mysteries to solve...although the house party itself gets very little attention. I liked the couple. Anyhow, I'm en route to the wedding. I'm gonna go call and harass my husband. LOL

RF~ Boy sounds like your really worked up. Those make the best reviews because when your that upset the words just flow and if your like me when you go back to reread it your shocked it came out as it does.
*********SPOILER************

Good news is there was a mix up at the clinic and the h is not expecting. I really love it the H and h just had a heated moment in the pool. They haven't taken it all the way and that is what I like the most about this book. The two have formed a strong friendship and they have confided things with each other that they have never done with anyone else. I love that. There are no arguments blown out of proportion and the two have agreed to use the girlfriend/boyfriend label now. The kids aren't bothering me I guess because families come in all shapes and sizes and I believe that they don't have control over circumstances and I want to see them together. They're like friends to me now and I am behind them 110%. I am so pathetic. LOL! I swear I do get out of the house LMAO!

Hey EB, don't mind me. I'm just listing my preferences. When all is said and done, I've read plenty of books that include aspects I don't particularly care for--such as kids, etc.--and I've enjoyed them very much. Shoot, sometimes I've love them! You just never know. It all depends on the story and how the author presents it.

BTW, I have lots of complaints about HEALING! Brenna has been driving me crazy. I've gotten to the part where he asks her to marry him--FINALLY!!!! And I'm sorry, but as much as I like Quade he is NO Alex!!!!!! He just doesn't measure up. The thing that pissed me off the most about Brenna, was when she was allowing Quade to kiss her even though she believed he was married. She thought to herself that he was one of those cheating, lying men she'd heard the other lasses of her clan talking about, but then when he kissed her she opened up her mouth and allowed him to stick his tongue darn near down her throat! Never once did she challenge him when he touched her--even though she would think to herself "he's married." That pissed me off. I wanted her to haul off and deck him. Even though she didn't want to be the one to ask him about being married, but wanted him to be the one to come clean, she could've still smacked him!

I also thought she was super stupid when she couldn't seem to understand why Alex wouldn't allow her to go off alone with Quade after he'd just refused to marry her. I mean Alex had just found her with Quade's tongue down her throat, and SHE certainly wasn't doing anything to stop him. Then Quade refuses to do the honorable thing and marry her. WHY would Alex then TRUST Quade with his sister, or trust HER with Quade, seeing as it was damn obvious she had no self control around the man. Ugh! I wanted to slap her. Thank God she got some sense shortly thereafter.

I do realize that the scene with Alex made me even more mad because I was 100% on Alex's side. I wanted to shake Brenna when she was arguing with Alex, because I agreed with Alex so much (yes, I have a soft spot for him.) THIS is why I can't read series books too close to one another. I am still so attached to Alex, I can't just greet him as an old friend. He's still very much like a lover. LOL It doesn't help when they point out the ways that Quade doesn't measure up to Alex...he's not as tall, nor as big, nor can he stand the sight of blood, blah, blah, blah. I still like him though.

Anyhow, enough. I'm almost done with it and despite the complaints I really like it. I'm off to make the freebie list for today. It's a super short one, but the books are new and I wanted to let you guys know they are available before they get hiked back up to their regular price.

Here's the freebie list! Better late than never! It's a super short one. EB, this first one is book 2 in that faerie series--you read book one; To Steal a Highlander's Heart. That was just over a hundred pages, this one is quite a bit longer. I think the same faerie is in this book, Teile.

http://www.amazon.com/Highlanders-Cap...

http://www.amazon.com/Governess-Book-...

http://www.amazon.com/Governess-One--...

http://www.amazon.com/Governess-Novel...

http://www.amazon.com/Governess-Book-...

http://www.amazon.com/Billow-Creek-Br...

http://www.amazon.com/Ransomed-Heart-...

http://www.amazon.com/When-Paris-Ladi...

http://www.amazon.com/Devils-Prey-Cyn...

Ok, that's it ladies. Please note that the GOVERNESS titles are all one book...it's a serial novel, I think. If you're interested make sure you get all four titles. The entire series is free, as well as the novella, which I think, is a short sequel to the serial novel.

EB, DEVIL'S PREY might be one that you'd like. I rated it 2 1/2 stars a while back. Check out my review to see my complaints. The storyline is great, but for me it's overly dramatic, and a bit too modern. Despite this, I think it might be one that you will enjoy because we don't share those particular pet peeves. Well the over drama isn't a pet peeve for me, but the modernism certainly is. The reason I think you may like it, is because it sort of puts me in mind of HEALING and Alex's story. At least start to read it at some point, because I'm really interested in what you think.

The couple is adorable, especially the H. Warning the h is the victim of kidnapping and rape. The H is her brother's best friend and is the one to find her. He is sooooooo sweet with her, I loved it. But, unfortunately, there was too much else with the book that detracted from my enjoyment. Anyhow, that's it for me.

The wedding was great and I head back home tomorrow morning, so there will be no freebie list tomorrow. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna start taking Sundays off. LOL Noreen, Kate, what have you two been reading lately?

RF~ I couldn't devote my normal time to the freebie list until today and most of the books are no longer free. The one you mentioned has shot up to 1.99. I hate that they usually stay free for more than a day. I'll check out your review and get back maybe if it goes on sale again I'll get it than. I'm still finishing Starter Wife. I had a Halloween Party Saturday and it has just now calmed down. We had 10 boys and a girl. One stayed the night so he is leaving at 6pm. My kids can get ready for school themselves than it's me time. I didn't take offense my taste is just different. I really like this story the H is now dealing with pain from his job and he is half stoned from the pain meds and is so cute. I remember that part of the book not setting well with me either and not sure why I never thought to mention it in my review. A flaw when you are eager to start your next book which was probably the case. Overlook some flaws because the end was nice, I'm not sure what it was, but yes Alex was right in wanting to separate his sister.

I don't know what the heck is going on with Amazon lately. So many of their books are now being offered for free for a day or two only! Usually a book would be free for at least a few days. Sorry you missed out on the freebies, but as for DEVIL'S PREY, I was mostly interested in seeing whether or not I was right in thinking you'd like it...wanted to determine how good my psychic skills are. LOL. It's been a while since I read the book, and I do remember really liking the couple. I know modernism doesn't bother you as much as it does me, and you said you like dramatic--which I thought the book was to a certain extent--so I figured I'd ask you to try it and prove me right...or wrong. Oh well. Maybe next time.

My weekend was a blast, but I am EXHAUSTED!!! I'm so tired I feel sick. I wasn't able to get back to HEALING until today. I read some on the plane, but I was so tired I started to doze off and had to stop. It's due to be returned to you tomorrow, so I've been trying to read some more since we got home, but I'm not making any headway. It's gonna be a rush to the finish line tomorrow morning! I'm not sure what time of day I downloaded it, so I intend to finish it fist thing tomorrow after I drop Lucian off at school.

A Halloween party, huh? God love you! ONE girl?! Who was the privileged princess? LOL

She was my niece and she made her aunt proud by hanging tough with the boys. LOL! I posted some pics on FB and she was the female Joker. She is definitely my brother reincarnated. LOL! He always made me play super heroes when we grew up but back in the day I only had wonder woman and Jan from the wonder twins as a choice. LMBO!

You did do a good job at profiling my book tastes. I don't really seem to choose as well. LOL! I guess if I like a book I think all will. I'm not totally convinced I would be totally sold on the modern feel but would probably give it a try. How'd the wedding go?

Haha I'm not surprised YOUR niece can hold her own with her male cousins and all those boys. I wouldn't expect anything less. LOL God love you with the Halloween party, though. I was sooooooo exhausted last night I was feeling sick. My first order of business this morning, after getting the kids off to school, is to finish reading HEALING.

It's almost impossible to say definitively whether or not another person is going to enjoy a book. There are so many nuances that are involved in the enjoyment of a story. One tiny aspect that another reader doesn't notice, may drive me crazy--for example the titles and forms of address! Then again, I've read reviews where readers were outraged because the author included some device in the period when it had not yet been invented, such as a pair of scissors or some such. I wouldn't even notice something like that--unless of course it was grossly overt, such as a car in the early 1800's, for instance LOL--because I am not really familiar with the invention dates of most things.

I could be way off on my opinion that you will like DEVIL'S PREY, but I'm still convinced it would be a good read for you. At the heart of the story is a very sweet couple, which I know will sway you to the side of enjoyment. LOL Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait to find out. Haha I think it's loanable though, so if you're ever in a reading funk and wanna check it out, let me know.

TTYL I gotta finish HEALING!!!!!

Good morning, Ladies! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. My weekend was fun, but super tiring! Here is a really quick freebie list for today. The first book is a novella that I've posted before, but it was in a separate comment (not included in the day's freebie list) so I decided to repost it, just in case anyone missed it.

http://www.amazon.com/Winters-Knight-...

http://www.amazon.com/Cavershams-Brid...

http://www.amazon.com/Scarred-Heart-R...

http://www.amazon.com/Lullaby-Shainas...

http://www.amazon.com/Entranced-Soul-...

http://www.amazon.com/Marblestone-Man...

http://www.amazon.com/Kiss-Across-Tim...

http://www.amazon.com/BLESSED-VICTORY...

http://www.amazon.com/Warriors-Redemp...

http://www.amazon.com/Susannahs-Texas...

http://www.amazon.com/Demon-Darkling-...

The second book is a new freebie, and sounds really good. Don't miss it; grab it if you think it's something you'd be interested in reading, because it will it will probably be back to full price tomorrow. Sigh FYI, ENTRANCED is a time travel romance, so is KISS ACROSS TIME, but I guess that fact is pretty obvious from the title, huh? Duh, Caron! LOL

Ladies you should be aware that the last freebie listed is a SERIAL novel. This first book does not have a conclusion. There are two other books that you would need to purchase in order to finish the story. I checked and only book two is currently available, and it sells for $2.99. I was hesitant to introduce a serial novel in the freebie list, but then decided I might as well. Who knows? One of you may find it intriguing enough to download it and then purchase the others. It certainly sounds intriguing!

Well, that's it for today. TTYL WHERE are you Kate????
