message 1403: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I'm not sure who Frank is but my day has been a mess. First I get out of bed to everyone coughing up there guts. I had to print out my W2 to fill out for Obsma Care which meant a trip to my parents. The drive way was still a mess and so my husband is such a stubborn fool. He is literally staggering around saying he needed to go out and shovel. That caused a fight bc he won't go to the dr. I wouldn't stop harping on him bc I'm afraid it'll turn into pneumonia. So the kids stayed home and we pile in my car to go to urgent care bc his dr couldn't get him in but than at UC they couldn't take Kens insurance. The kids were looked at. I then ran to get filled out for Obama Care and now am at the ER

Sorry, dammit I meant Ken. I don't know who the hell Frank is...actually he's the husband of another friend of mine. LOL So, how's he doing? God save us from stubborn husbands! I hope everything's going well and you get home soon. Hanging around in an ER is not fun! Sounds like you've had the day from hell!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments The fight to get him to come here was not one oft highlights. I needed to vent and I thought my post went but I noticed this afternoon it didn't so that's how worked up I was. Lol I even posted it on FB. I am still sitting in the hall of the ER. Ken went for X Rays and I left Frank home with the kids. Lol Seriously one husbands is enough. I thought I was going to have to hog tie him to get him here. I brought my kindle

Man that sucks! Good thing you thought to bring the kindle with you. So it's a respiratory thing he's in for now? Not his heart, right?

I hear you about one husband, but it's helpful times like these...you took one to the hospital and left one with the kids. ROTFL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I just got back have to go back to get scripts but we are home. He has Bronchitis and got 4 scripts. What's messed up is I had to ask for something for his cough. They didn't give him anything so I asked him if he could have something for it. That was his chief complaint was coughing. Oh well he's home I know all of the men in my are taken care of. Now maybe I can finish my book. The last book I read for NG was Gone Before Goodbye. It was good. The other one was Coming Home To You but you knew that

Glad to hear you made it back home in one piece. Good thing you made Ken go to the doctor. With this weather we're having who knows how bad his condition could've gotten. Him being outside shoveling tons of snow every other day doesn't help matters either. Anyhow, go enjoy you're book. I'm almost done with mine and have the next one lined up. I liked the one I'm reading, but it was slow there for a little while. Thank God it picked up right about the halfway mark and has been picking up speed ever since. Right now the h is about to be tossed into a river all tied up and the sexy, ex-SEAL hero's gonna have to do his thing and save her. Sigh!

Good morning, ladies! I hope you all had a wonderful night's sleep--that includes you Ms. Kate. Now to the bad news; as far as the freebie list today--I got NOTHING! THAT has never happened before, but there you have it. Not a single new, worthwhile freebie listed among the bunch of freebie Historical Romance books available on Amazon. Part of me is wondering if I did the search too early, but before all these blasted storms, this was my usual time and I never had any problems before.

Anyhow, that's it. No freebies today. I'm sure we'll be fine without them, as between the three of us our TBR list is probably as long as the list of HRs available on Amazon--both free and non-free. LOL

kate | 203 comments Hey EB hope Ken is feeling better. You were right to get him to the hospital Pneumonia is no fun.

We're not allowed to throw soda cans at our husband in New York. But beer cans works just as well. And I have the added advantage of always being able to find some under the kids beds or in the bottom of their closets.

It's Ok there is no list RF. But don't expect a raise next quarter.

Went into the tbr pulled out The Morgans Mail Order Bride by Cia Leah. A four book set. It was so bad it was funny. In the first book the writer kept getting the H name wrong. One minute she would call him Caleb in the next Jacob.

In the second book Caleb/Jacob's brother Breed's new bride hugs him and thinks about how big he is. When they are standing her head is just above his waist. Apparently he married a dwarf. Or he is the jolly green giant. I title my review Typo Heaven so that should give you a clue.

My doctor was mad at me because my pneumonia was worse. She threatened to put me in the hospital if I didn't go home and rest. That was a threat? Sounded like a vacation to me. My husband retired from the NYC transit authority (subway motorman). I have health insurance a congressman would envy. She chickened out and gave me a stronger antibiotic and a new inhaler. Andrea is often a disappointment to me.

Seriously. Hope you and your families feel better. Nite Ladies.

Good to hear from you Kate. I'll take my chances on the "no raise" next quarter! ROTFL

I think it's hella funny that you look at a hospital stay as a vacation, but I can't say I blame you. Some days I wish I felt just sick enough to justify staying in bed for a few days...nothing too drastic, mind you, just enough to stay in bed, but still be able to read. LOL

Beer cans vs. Soda cans...umm, sounds like a legal distinction to me, and a good one!

We are all doing well on my end. Both kids go back to school today, but we're expecting more snow. What the hell is up with that? We barely got any snow all winter up to now, and then in just a week we've had a ton. It's crazy! Anyhow, gotta run. Gotta go search for freebies. Who knows? If I don't find any today, Kate may threaten to REDUCE my pay. LOL

Okay ladies, it looks like we may actually get a couple of books on the freebie list today. Here's the first, another M.C. Beaton (Chesney) novel. Not sure why Amazon is suddenly giving them away for free--they don't usually go down past $1.99--but I'm all for it! Kate, if I remember correctly you don't like Chesney--is that right?

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Kate glad to see your feeling better. We are all doing well. I had to tap into a little cough syrup yesterday but I feel good today. The soda can is that one of the old laws written in the books there. We call them pop cans here so I probably would have been ok. Otherwise I probably would have had to carry him to the car with the boy's and that wouldn't have been too fun. I read some more of my FSOG and started reading the Earl book too but I found it wasn't quite the right time for it so I'm going to take it slow. It's not that it's bad it's just the h is shy and is referred to as a mouse. I hate that but I pulled out trick RF and read the end and know at some point she changes I just wanted something else

Hey EB, you talking about the CHRISTMAS EARL book? I really liked that one. She's not the least bit mousy, so I don't know why they describe her that way. She's quite and a little shy, so she remains in the background. It doesn't help that she has that beautiful, horrible sister, and a mother who dotes on the selfish heifer. But she is more than a match for the Earl. It's a super sweet story. Little brown wren gets the uber sexy, rakish hero!

Glad to hear you're doing better today. BTW Kate, how are YOU doing? I have to say, healthwise I've been back to normal for a few days now. It sorta crept up on me that I haven't really even noticed. Not even a sniffle the past couple of days...knock on wood it stays that way!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments The Earl Who Loves Me. I think your talking about the right one. I like that they've known each other their whole life and that they both love the other. The Earl knowing the h feelings for him is a relief but the slow movement to other is why I took a break. I know that it is important to the story I just wanted to read about a couple already together I guess so I went back to fifty. I may read some more today. Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I am probably unfit to talk to you but I would like your guys opinion. Last weekend I entered a contest for the book Under His Protection. In order to win you had to prove you bought it and post it to the author and then read it and do a review and they picked a winner yesterday. So I read what the book was about thought it sounded like something I could give a descent review on and entered. I also PM'd the author and gave her my Amazon screen name bc I wanted to make sure she recognized me. Anyhow the winner was picked and I'm looking at it and there is no verified purchase on her review. It showed kindle format and that was it. Her name is Claire. If it is the same girl it sounds like a scam. Like the author gave her the copy so that she didn't have to give an actual GC out and that sucks. I did enjy the book but if the author is crooked like that than I will not buy another book from her. I asked Claire in the comments if she bought the book or given by the author and told the author if she was scamming that sucks. Do you think I should just left it alone. It's not the girl winning that made me bad but the fact that I think it was rigged. There was another review posted that had 3 sentences and said nothing about what the book was about but got 8 out of 8 votes that it helped. I voted that it didn't bc it said nothing of importance and it disappeared. I later seen it went to the bottom of the reviews. Please read and give me your honest opinion if I'm over reacting I want your honest feedback. Thanks

message 1423: by Judy (new)

Judy | 13 comments Elizabeth, Claire's review was written on November 12, 2013. Why does the author have a contest and include reviews written that long ago? I don't know anything about these contest rules, but it seems a bit strange to me. Since Claire's review was one of the early reviews, she may have received it as a gift or purchased it elsewhere? Also, just noticed the publication date is January 29, 2015??

message 1424: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments She gave a full name so I'm not clear if it is the exact same Claire. I am curious now let me check. I thought that too but one of the conditions to the contest was proof of purchase...this girl had none. In fact quite a few reviews were not verified purchase. I leant Aspoon my copy and noticed it reads kindle edition instead of vp. I'm sorry I bought it but I worked hard to do the review and if someone else won bc it was rigged that upsets me. Thanks for checking it out hon.

WTH! None of that makes any sense, especially when you include all the info Judy added. It's unlikely that she purchased the book elsewhere. There are very few places to purchase a kindle edition e-book other than Amazon. Also, I'm with Judy, why include earlier reviews in the contest? What it sounds like to me is that this Claire received an early ARC copy in exchange for a review. They are most often done before the book is released to the public. That's the only thing that makes sense, if the review was written in November, but the book was published in January.

I'll check them out. BTW, hi Judy!!

message 1426: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Those are my thoughts. I went back after what Judy said and saw there were only 5 reviews done 2015. The contest was only from last Saturday until yesterday. I went on the White Rose FB page and posted exactly that if it was a bogus contest that sucks and than I said God Bless You bc I needed to vent my feelings to her but the ending comment was my way of releasing all that negative energy. Let her have it and anyone else that reads that post she put will see my comment and maybe check into it as well. Either way I will not buy another book from that publishing house and unliked their page. Be honest with your readers not deceive them to get purchases from them. I thank you guys bc I thought I may have blew my stack too soon. Thanks Judy for the dates bc I looked at names and purchases. That's okay, EB. I know how hot headed you redheads can be. ROTFL A

BTW are you reading that freebie you downloaded from Amazon...A BEAUTIFUL MESS? I checked it out and noticed that there is a book two involving the same couple. And it doesn't look good, because the blurb for that book has them separated so I'm thinking that book one might end in a cliffhanger. If you haven't started reading it yet, you might wanna check out the end to be sure.

I can't stand the nowadays trend...so many freaking books end in cliffhangers! Book that are 200, some even 300 pages long! You can't fit an entire story in 300 pages? Why not just make the flipping book 400 or 500 pages, charge a decent price for it and make it a frigging COMPLETE story?! Annoying! I downloaded TWO freebies over the past couple of days, both of which were long enough that I thought they were complete stories. Not to mention the blurb certainly made them see complete--nothing about a cliffhanger was mentioned. However, when I flipped to the end, voila! Cliffhanger!

Oh, BTW, none of the stupid reviews mentioned a cliffhanger either. I've started going to the 1 star reviews first. That's where people hate the book and lay it on the line. Unfortunately, too many people don't both to elaborate on their reviews and just say things like I love it or I hated. I'm like "thanks, but I can tell that from the number of stars you gave the damn book! WHY did you hate/love it?" Ugh!

Hey BTW which UNDER HIS PROTECTION is it? There are a few...what's the author's name? I checked out one which had 15 reviews, but I didn't find one by any Claire.

Hey Judy, glad to hear you're doing better. We've had the same problem in my house. I've had a cold twice, the first time I hadn't even fully recovered when it hit me the second time. My daughter had a cold for weeks; it would get better then worse, then finally she had the flu. My son's had it the easiest. He had a cold, then he got better, then he too got the flu, a couple of weeks after my daughter. Even my husband was sick; he got it once, then got better, and now he's TRYING to get sick again. Okay ladies, here they are...today's freebies!

http://smile.amazon.com/Risen-Executi...

http://smile.amazon.com/Wicked-Game-N...

http://smile.amazon.com/Surrender-MaL...

http://smile.amazon.com/How-Lasso-Cow...

THE EXECUTION is a story about two brothers, twins, who meet when the one, a priest, comes to take the confession of the other, a convicted murderer. Apparently they tell each other their stories and the book moves between the present and the past. FYI, the story is set in the 1300's some time.

RISEN is the sequel novel to THE EXECUTION. The twin who was executed has been given a second chance at life--not sure what that means...did he die and is risen or what?--and is intent on going to rescue his lady love. There's more to the story, but that's it in a nutshell.

WICKED GAME has an overall three star rating with 31 reviews. That's not a good sign, but it's free. Actually, it might have made it on our list in the past...not recent past, however.

HOW TO LASSO A COWBOY is oh so good. I read it a while back and loved it. Not everyone did, of course, but I forget what the general complaints were. Anyhow, I'm not sure, but that book might have made it on one of our prior lists--in the distant past some time.

Well, that's it for today, ladies. I hope you all find something to enjoy. TTYL!

BTW ladies, that freebie I posted earlier, SURRENDER MA'LADY, you might wanna forget about that one. I read the ending and the writing is a joke, not to mention it needs editing. Here are examples...

"Did you fiancee has his way with you?" Yes that's has instead of have and BTW that fiancee is referring to a man...isn't that supposed to be fiance?

Then there's description of the H's face being "weak with fury..." Can someone please tell me HOW one's face can be WEAK with fury?

"You see, in our new home John had desired separate sleeping quarters. I'm afraid our marital relations would not have been conjugated." HOW can you CONJUGATE marital relations? Don't you conjugate VERB? And assuming the word is supposed to be consummate, can you consummate marital relations? You're either having them, or you're not. ROTFL

Not to mention the h is the daughter of an earl, and is incorrect addressed as Lady Last Name, instead of her first name. So ANNOYING!

Anyhow, that's just a few examples of how ridiculous that book is. I'm deleting it from my kindle as we speak. Sigh

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I spoke with the author to under his protection and it was a misunderstanding. The contest I entered ends on the 11th so has not ended. The author and her helpers put no dates and so it lead you believe it was still on it wasn't. She changed her page to specify and apologized for the confusion and asked how she could make it up to me. I td her I didn't speak up to get something free. I mean really imo it would be tacky to ask for something. The answers to my concerns was enough. Her name is Stacey Von Haegert. The book is .99 and originally was not a loan able. Then I mentioned it to Aspoon and when I rechecked it was. She hated it and had some nasty comments on her review that even attacked me for loaning it to her. Whatever. ASpoon attacked you for loaning it to her?! That girl is crazy! LOL We can't all like the same books. I've had friends recommend books to me that I didn't like, but I sure didn't blame them for it. So she liked it and I didn't, that's life. Shoot I ahd one book my friend loaned me where I couldn't get past the second chapter! There were absolutely no punctuations, except for the occasional period. I asked her how she could stand it and she said, yeah that's how the author's books were. I told her, no offense, but I can't read it! It was all good though.

Anyhow, I'm glad that things got cleared up. I'll check out the book. It wasn't the one I thought it was because I didn't see a review by ASpoon either. I've been going through the romantic suspense freebie section. That's my genre of choice right now...or should I say my drug of choice? LOL The book I'm reading right now is awesome! My only complaint is it's too damn short...only about 150 pages. Sigh

Wow! I read Aspoon's review and and the comments under it. Those two women who left the initial comments are a piece of work. Under normal circumstances I would probably read the book--you like it, Aspoon doesn't, so I'd give it a chance, But I wont now. I hate when there are vigilantes who don't attack readers who have a negative opinion about a book. They don't seem to realize that they aren't doing the author any favors. For those two attacks alone, I absolutely will not read the book. So, they have succeeded in losing the author a sale Idiots! They're probably friends, family, or associates. They certainly act as though they have a vested interest in the books success. As for the stupid comments about the lending--the publisher decides if a book can/cannot be loaned and most e-books are only loanable ONCE. In this case, the author probably self-published and decided to allow the lending. At this point she probably just wants to get people to READ her book, and not worry so much about sales.

EB you might wanna mention to her that her "fans" are running of potential readers! Ugh!

You made a mistake and apologized for it, so I wouldn't worry about it anymore.

ASpoon certainly blasted the book, but she's entitled to her opinion. I don't have one either way, because I haven't read it. What I do know is that I hate the fact that those two women blasted ASpoon's review in such a classless manner. I'm sure they are either friends or family of the author's, but that's not to say they are acting at her behest. I'm sure that is not the case, and they are too stupid to realize that they are not helping her, because their actions reflect badly on her.

OMG! I just finished reading Marked. It's freaking good! Only 170 pages, but what a story. It's a romantic suspense novel. Sexy FBI, HRT member, and half Chines/half White heroine. Love it. Anyhow, Liz (yes, I've decided to all you Liz from now on) here's the link in case you're interested. It's free right now. I'm not sure if Judy or Kate reads this particular genre.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Thanks for the kind words ladies. I have been reading on a cold Christmas eve it is a freebie too and the same author who wrote the Earl who loved me. I am in love to misfits finding each other. Really dreamy. Thanks for the tip I downloaded it and will check it out later when I'm in the mood. Lol.

Which one...MARKED, or the one from a couple weeks ago, BREAKING UP WITH BARRETT?

Oh. I hope you like it, but if you don't you can cuss me out in your review. ROTFL! And yes, I agree with your latest assessment; ASpoon wasn't slamming you for lending her the book, just warning others not to read the book, whether they have to buy it or can borrow it. :-)

Don't worry about getting upset; at times like these if I were you, I'd fall back on the redhead excuse. LOL Seriously though, don't worry about it. I get like that sometimes too; something strikes you the wrong way and gets you all riled up. It happens.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Hee hee the author didn't help she accepted part of the blame as well but than went on to tell me how it cost her $2000.00 to publish her book the 1st time and never made a dime. Then she gets a new piblisher and things are looking up until some radical goes crazy. She didn't say the last part but did let me know that she was on line and read my friends review. She said she shrugged it off but still let me know she read it. I have no control over what someone else writes. I think she wanted me to pass it along to Aspoon. I did talk to her but everything Aspoon wrote was how she felt while a bit harsh imo I respect her right to express how she feels. That whole scene and pm the author had me down but I sunk into my book and zoned out. I started Marked and Rachel just met up with Jake to tell him about her suspicions of her brothers "friend." It seems like it will be doable. If that's a word. Lol I have a client this morning so I'll be out for awhile. TTYL and thanks.

Good morning, ladies. I've been searching through the freebie section, and so far I've only found one new one...other than some tacky looking erotic ones. Anyhow, this first one is about a h who is on a quest to become a medicine woman. I think she's American Indian.

Dang! That's it ladies. Not much today. TTYL!

Yes I agree about ASpoon's review. She hated the book and said why. That's her right. Tough if others don't agree or have a differing opinion. The author, I'm sure recognizes that not everyone is going to love her book--no matter how good.

As for the money; oh well, she's the one who chose to allow it to be loaned, or rather the publisher she chose. And it's only loanable once. Had it been paperback you could've loaned it as many times as you wanted, and I'm sure it would have cost a lot more to publish. At least people are reading her book. You've gotta have readers before you can become well known.

I hope you like the book. I LOVE Jake. So sexy, so cute, so alpha (but not overly so) and so protective. Sigh!

I'm reading another one, Meant for Her. It about a H who is a navy officer and an h who is the daughter of a former navy officer who was accused of treason. He disappeared ten years earlier and she hasn't heard from him and now the H tells her he is dead. He left an encrypted message and the H wants her to decipher it. It's an okay story. The problem I'm having with it is that the romance is moving way too quickly. She hates the Navy and doesn't trust the H, yet the SECOND time they see each other they are sucking face. I can understand the sexual tension, but they are acting on it way too fast. It doesn't feel real, if you know what I mean.
