Got it, EB! I'll definitely keep my eyes open for those books for you. As for my slowing down on my reading, don't worry, it wont affect my participation in the group whatsoever. I don't think I need to read less, so much as I need to organize my time better, as I alluded to earlier. So far I've read three books this year--well I'm reading the third one now. I probably shouldn't count THE CRAVING since as I started it on the 31st and finished it the morning of the 1st. LOL

Clarissa Wild, that's a contemporary you're reading right? I sure as heck hope so, what with the bf and sleeping with two people at the same time. LOL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Hey rf I started a book on the 28th but finished the 1st and am counting it. I'm at three too. Cw is cotemporary and she's got quite a few books for free. I've read4 of hers and liked 2 of them. It's a guilty pleasure to be sure. I'm reading the Warriors wife because I was in the mood for a scot. I just started.

kate | 203 comments Winter's Heat by DD was a five star read for me. I reviewed it in BN. Five star for me means I'd read it again. So I do like her work but WW to me was draggy. I didn't like the couple so that's a hard bump to get over. But it is free and a lot of people loved it so it may be worth a try

Summer's Storm was also a five star. The H is the bastard brother of the H in Winter's heat and gives up everything to be with the woman he loves. Great story.

kate | 203 comments RE: Goodreads-- By the way I set my goal at 200 but I know I read at least 300 last year. But I have got to cut down. My dust bunnies have had dust bunnies and there are new life forms in my refrigerator.

My top new year resolution was to give the kids my e readers and tell them not to give them back for a week. Then I was going to give the house a good clean and donate all my books except the ones left to me from family to the library. So far I've read two books and the dust bunnies are laughing their ass off.

Kate, you and I have the same problem when it comes to reading--other things get neglected! My regular routine during the school week is, get up early to get my daughter ready for school. After she and my husband are off, I browse the freebies on Amazon and post the list. I also keep a list of the books that make it on our freebie list each day, so keep track and not keep repeating the same books.

If I'm in the middle of reading a book, I may spend some time reading it before I get myself and my son ready to go to preschool. When I return home, that is my time to get work done around the house, before I have to go pick up my son. I only have about two hours at home before I have to leave to pick him up--that is, on days when I don't have errands to run, after I drop him off. However, more often than not I get distracted by a book and end up doing little, if any, housework. Oftentimes, the regular daily stuff such as making beds, laundry, washing dishes, and the like, is done WHILE reading! This of course results in my chores taking twice as long to get done, and I get almost nothing extra done. I also spend a lot of time during the day dropping off and picking up the kids from school, both of whom attend schools that are twenty and twenty-five minutes away from home, one way.

So, my week days end up with lots of reading, but very little productivity. My hope--my PLAN--is to be more organized in my daily routine. I would love to get my stuff done first, THEN read. I think if I would only allow myself time to do my housework and chores, without the distraction of reading, I'd get more done in less time, which would result in more, and better quality, reading time. See?! Great plan, isn't it? LOL

BTW, thanks for the input re the DD books. I have her entire SEASONS series, as well as her LADY series. I've had them for a while, but haven't read any of them. It's a shame, I know. LOL

EB if you're interested in the books Kate mentioned, they are both available in a two-book set for .99 cents! The SEASONS series consists of five books in all, and those books, WINTER'S HEAT and SUMMER'S STORM are the first two books in the series. FYI each book in the series can be read as a stand alone. Anyhow, here is the link to the box set. Considering that the regular price for each book in the series is $2.99 and up, that's a steal! There is a part two box set, which consists of the other three books in the series, but the price for that is $3.99 (still not a bad price for THREE books, but not as good as .99 cents for TWO. LOL)

I have a love hate relationship with her I'm not sure if you found her writing shallow or what considering she writes mini books and they're free what the heck I'm two for of her books anyhow i see everyone seems to be shooting for 200 books this year it's probably more realistic for me too kate I have some dust bunnies too and thank god for my hubby and kids they help me with that endless battle our house is on a busy road and you could dust twice a day everyday and still find dust lol ttyl

kate wrote: "Just a thought RF but maybe we don't love to read at all. Maybe we just hate housework."

Oh I definitely HATE housework!!! I tell me children all the time, the only thing I hate more than cleaning is dirt! ROTFL

The thing is I'm an organization freak...I like order, schedules, and plans, and I like to stick to them. It's harder to have a routine with kids. And since I've been home with them, totally at their mercy, I've found it's much harder to keep any kind of regular schedule. I've been floating along the last few years, but now that they are older it should be easier to have some kind of routine. Being disorganised, and reading whenever I get the chance had become a bad habit, one that I am determined to break! I plan to start as soon as I send the family off tomorrow.

I want to get my work done and have QUALITY reading time. Maybe I should set a two hundred book goal too. I think I may have read more than that last year. I still haven't done a complete count.

The entire TEXAS PRAIRIE BRIDES trilogy is available for free today. I've included all three books on our list, although we have had books one and two on prior lists. Ms. Whitsby's MONTANA PRAIRIE BRIDES trilogy is also available for free, and all three titles are on the list. Nice, huh? I miss Noreen. She and I shared a mutual love for mail-order bride novels. Sigh! Anyhow, I haven't read any of this author's books, and now I have six of them. I certainly hope she writes at least a half-way decent story!

EB, check out the new Kathryn Loch Highlander romance. It's another in her MIST CLANS series. So far, I've still only read DEMON LAIRD which was OK. I got this one though. One can always hope for a better read. LOL

I read and reviewed THE OFFICER AND THE BOSTONER! Loved it!!! It was one of those LOL funny stories. The h is from a wealthy family. She's one her way to meet her fiance when she gets left behind at a Army base by her stage coach. Unmarried women are not allowed on the base and the next stage is due on God knows when, so the H magnanimously offers to marry her so she can stay at the base while she waits! He's from a wealthy family too, and thinks the h is the stereotypical society lady, so things don't get off to such a good start. It's a nice read! LOL Here's the link to my review in case you wanna check it out.

http://smile.amazon.com/review/R203RY...

OMG! Ms. Whitsby's BRIDES OF MONTANA trilogy is also available for free! That makes three freebie trilogies NINE books, all for free on the same day. That's gotta be some kind of record for authors. LOL Anyhow, I think we've had all three of the BOM books on our prior lists at one time or the other, but just in case we haven't had them all, I've listed all three.

WONDERLAND BY NIGHT is book three in Ms. Higgins' Heroic Rogue series. We've had book one as a freebie on our list in the past weeks some time. FYI, that book was titled TAKE MY HEART.

That's it for today, ladies. I hope you all find something on the list that appeals to you. You'll notice, that aside from the Kathryn Loch book and the FULL MACKINTOSH all the books are set in America. Anyhow, TTYL!

Good morning, ladies! Here's today's freebie list.

http://smile.amazon.com/Darkwood-Rose...

http://smile.amazon.com/Perhaps-Anoth...

MAD ABOUT is new regency novella by Margo Maguire. I like her books.

HIGHLANDER FORBIDDEN has been on our list before. EB and I both read and liked it. Dunno if you'd grabbed a copy before, Kate. And Judy I don't see where you reviewed it, so maybe it will be one that you like. Not sure about your exact reading taste as yet. I'll get it eventually. LOL

Hate the cover for REBEL'S KISS...so modern. But the story sounds interesting enough.

PERHAPS is a time travel romance. H travels back in time, but then it looks like the h has to travel to the future for a vaccine--not sure which one or why. Anyhow, that's it for today, ladies. Short but sweet. It looks like there might be a couple of jewels on our list today, even though it's very short. At the very least, I expect the MM novella to be a good one. Hope I wont be disappointed. TTYL!

Kate, I have another disabled heroine book for you, Miss Isabella Thaws a Frosty Lord. I'm reading it for the third time, I love it THAT much. Anyhow, I borrowed it before, but now I own it, so I can loan it to you when I'm done, if you're interested. The h is BLIND!! And no, she doesn't miraculously get her sight back before the end of the story AND it's not a physical cause, but a genetic one. She slowly lost her sight. Unusual, huh? Usually the author is at pains to let us know that the cause is an accident or some such, so there is no worries about the possibility of passing on a genetic defect to future children. Anyhow, just thought I'd let you know.

BTW did I ever tell you about Beguiled with the mute heroine?

I just sent myself a $15 Amazon GC using points earned on my Amazon Visa. Yay!!!!

Thanks for the Kathryn Loch find. I was just looking at her books the other day and I don't know if this is one of them because I just downloaded it and didn't really read the blurb. The ones I looked at I didn't think I'd enjoy so I passed on them. If this turns out to be one of them I probably won't read it because I don't think it would be fair to her and a waste of time for me. Thank you tough I'll let you know.

Damn I'll go see if I can find Ovation. I know I have it, but don't know the channel.

Got it re the ENFLAMED series, BTW. I had emailed you about continuing to price watch.

Oh, I found that version of EMMA on Amazon Instant Video. It's available for free with Prime! Yay!!! No I haven't watched the HUNTSMAN as yet. It's almost four hours--at least it is with all the commericials, etc. I'm gonna wait for quality time to watch it. Just like I did with P&P.

I hear you re the Loch novel. I agree that it's not fair to an author to read a book if you know you wont like it, or even if you just think you wont. I don't do that either. Besides, who wants to waste their time on a non-enjoyable read when there are so many other books one will enjoy? Anyhow, gonna go do some housework. TTYL

kate | 203 comments Thanks again for the list RF. I got a bunch from yesterday's list and a couple from today. You're not helping my addiction problem.

Speaking of which I posted 4 reviews yesterday and they were all rejected. 3 - 5 stars. I don't think Amazon wants to hear my opinions anymore.

The 5 star was A Matter of Class by Mary Balogh. She is hit or miss with me. But I loved this one. It had a surprise ending. How often does that happen in a romance novel? At least it was a surprise to me. So if you do decide to check this one out DO NOT PEEK at the ending. Though maybe you'll be smarter then me and figure it out. It's only about 200 pages so it's a light read.

Hey Kate, I am reading ISABELLA right now. As soon as I'm done, I'll let you know and send it over. I think I have your email address...does it start with KPV?

Kate I forgot all about CAPTURED! The problem is that I created a TBR list on my kindle and added books from my cloud to it. Any book I don't own, that I want to read are on my GR list. I haven't checked that list in a while, but I forgot to add CAPTURED to it anyway. I'll add it now. I'll wanna read it when I get back to the Highlands. LOL

Yes EB. I remember you telling us about your husband. He wore the device for a few weeks back in November, right? You never said what the end results were. I will definitely keep your hubby in my prayers. Does he need a pacemaker?

I wonder what's up with Amazon not letting you submit your reviews, Kate? Have you contacted them? That's way too weird. I've written a few recently and haven't had any problems. BTW glad to hear you found a few books on the list. I know I'm not helping, but hey at least I'm feeding your addiction for FREE!!!! ROTFL Think how happy a crack addict would be if they found a dealer that gave them crack for nothing in return.

TTYL ladies.

RF yes my email is kpv.

I haven't contacted amazon. Not sure who to contact. I've rerun the reviews and dumbed them down to generic slush and they still won't accept them. They eventually took" the bride least wanted" but I put in in about 5 times. I can still order books I'm not having a problem with that. Just can't review.

OK, Kate. As soon as I'm done I'll give you a heads up. FYI this is a light read. It's set at a house-party during the Christmas holiday and the events take place during the Twelfth Night celeb. The H is a earl, the h the daughter of a peer. Her father is total ass, but he doesn't figure in until close to the end. There is a minimal paranormal aspect, in the the h's mother, who died some four years earlier, is seeking to see her daughter settled before she passes on to her heavenly rewards. She is observing the events as they unfold and you get the feeling she directs things a little from time to time, but her role is mostly one of an observer. You only hear about her for a few sentences every few chapters. It's really minor.

The H, Lord Frostwood, aka Frosty, is a frosty fellow. Hates Christmas with good reason. The h is the complete opposite. It's one of those "sweet" stories. So, as soon as I'm done, I'll let you know...unless you want me to just go ahead and send it. TTYL

I usually just contact customer service at Amazon for everything. I can't be bothered to figure out the "right" person to contact. LOL They'll figure it out for you, or they will contact the right person. I wonder what the heck is happening? It couldn't be the device your using, could it? Do you have a kindle or do you use a Nook? I ask because on the kindles (at least the Kindle Fires) you can write a review immediately at the end of the book on the device. This has been going on for a while, hasn't it? I seem to remember you saying you were having the same problem several days ago.

OMG! Guys it's a disaster of epic proportions...I'm in the mood for a--gasp!--contemporary romance! What is the world coming to. I think it's because for the past two days I've been plagued by the memory of a book I read years ago, but I can't remember the title. It's about a H who is a movie star. He and the h were married when his career was just starting off. They were apart while he was filming and then rumors started that he was having a fling with his co-star...I think it might've been a rumor started by his management people to bolster the film or some such. Anyhow, he and the h separated, although I can't remember if they ever divorced. Now, years later they are reunited. She is a teacher of some sort--college professor, I think. I can't remember the name of the blasted book!! Any takers? I've gotta go find that webpage where you can ask if anyone remembers a specific book and see if anyone can help me.

In the meantime, I'm off to start One Classic Latin Lover, Please. It was a freebie on our list a couple days ago. Looks like a fun read! TTYL

kate | 203 comments Thanks RF I downloaded Isabella.

Well I found out why my reviews have been rejected. When I write the headline I often add a row of period. EG Awesome Book....... Amazon has told me that is NOT within guidelines. Apparently they think I'm sending out some type of subversive code. I checked my past reviews and I've been doing this since my first review which was October 2013. Thank god they stopped me before it got out of hand. I will certainly cease and desist. I am nothing if not a rule follower.

I finally read a Kate Whitsby book. It was very corny and juvenile. I wasn't even going to review it. But the main charter was so obnoxious I couldn't resist. Also they are not stand alones. I read two to be fair to the author. Then I deleted all her books. Hard to believe she wrote 45 books. They're awful. I don't say that lightly.

Kate I'm glad you figured it out. I'm sorry I've been neglectful but I was off yesterday and I had company come over early. We went to the gym and made soup when I got home and I read very little. I was going to help you with contacting Amazon. My best luck is the live chats. Anyway the problem sounded stupid and I hope you told them that. They could have emailed that to you instead of you contacting them. I finished the 3rd book in the Enflamed series and I have one left. The h is really insecure and I hate that in a character. If they start out that way because of a life experience fine but please as an author show us growth as the story continues. 50 Shades had insecure characters but we witnessed their growth with each incident. It made it believable because if a person has insecurities I know they don't just go away but don't say I'm falling hard for him one minute. Have hot sex with him the next confirming that but than as soon as a conflict pops up you assume it's just a lie. It is just so annoying.

Anyhow, too bad about Whitsby, but I'm not surprised. That explains why so many of her books are free. There's nothing I hate more--when it comes to reading--than an author who does not learn and grow as she writes more books. Ms. Whitsby obviously isn't listening to her critical reviews, or maybe it's only friends and family who are reading them, perhaps? Anyhow, I will try one for myself, but if I feel the same as you do--and no doubt I will--I definitely wont be reading the entire book. Honestly, I'd rather not read any now, but I also don't want all those damn books cluttering up my cloud! ROTFL

BTW I found that chat group where you can ask about the titles of books you've forgotten. I posted my question. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

kate | 203 comments Eb I had read Mail Order Bride Irene and then Audrey. Of course I skimmed a lot of Audrey.
I don't think I have ever read such poorly written books. The characters were strange. The story oddly written. I was fascinated by the fact she wrote 45 of them. Who's buying them I wonder?

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Lol 45 you say? That is strange for that many books. I've been reading this Clarissa wild series and she has some errors too. That is just crazy to think she's wrotten that many that badly what are the reviews like

Ya I'm still teaching, but we've been off the last couple of weeks during the Christmas holiday.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Clariosa wild are pretty clear as what they are and I have written the flaws in them. I do like kaito but Chloe is so weak hardly anyone to admire and she's stayed that way throughout the series I'm on the last book and at 82% of the way done this is what would stop me from following another one of her series

I can't stand a weak heroine. Ugh! I feel the same way about women in real life, and have to constantly remind myself that we're all different. LOL Anyhow, if a heroine is sweet, shy, has been victimized and so isn't as forceful as I would like her to be, I'm good with it, so long as she has the right type of hero...one who treats her well, is protective, blah, blah, blah. If the h is a weakling with an ass for a hero, that totally ruins the book for me. I also hate the idiotic heroine. Ugh. But don't get me started. LOL

So far CLASSIC LATIN is pretty good. Reads more like a YA novel though, and dude, am I sick of the word "dude" and the giggling is a little irritating. LOL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments ROTFLMAO That last statement is still cracking me up. Have you ever watched Hocus Pocus with Bet Midler? The part where she is mocking the two teenage boys her and her sisters have captured? She calls them dude. LOL The way she says it is hysterical to me and when I read your comment I got that image of her saying it and it just had me giggling.

Anyhow the book I'm working on the h is being ignored by her boyfriend first and he shows her no love. Abuse is implied but apart from some flying furniture and harsh name calling you see none. The break up happens when she confides that she cheated on him. She is still upset and her only friend is not in town so she goes back to Kaito bc she doesn't want to be alone. She is feeling all this guilt and how mad Ethan was when she confesses and Kaito just offers a shoulder. He is a true gentleman. He shows her to the bedroom to lie down and rest and leaves her. When she wakes up she hears him in the shower. From the bed to the shower she decides she doesn't want to feel alone and she instigates sex with him. Than from the shower to the bedroom she is replaying words he's said about being his girlfriend.

This girl throughout the book is sometimes whiny and other times too eager to please him. She has left the US now and is totally dependent on him I just feel like a lot of things could have been enriched with a longer book. It is very surface stuff. He shows he's romantic and trustworthy but she is willing to go dramatic at the drop of a hat. I agree if she comes from a harsh background I believe that. Like in Fredrick's Queen but this girl reads to me like she was molested where she doesn't feel complete without a man. She can't have a man without having sex with him. I had a friend that was like that and it's very sad because in her mind she believed if she didn't have sex with a man he wouldn't like her. She was of course molested when she was younger. I am just about done with the book and it seems to have a lot of unsettled things to work out so I'm thinking their may be something else in addition. If there is I will not be continuing. I can't go any further. I have been bated long enough. LOL

The contemporaries can take a toll on us, hey RF? LOL

Well I'm done with LATIN LOVER. It was cheesy as hell, totally YA, but Dude!...I loved it! I dont' know why, but I did. Weird that. I was in a particular mood and I think it just hit the right cord with me. There was a lot of giggling, duding, bros, blah, blah, blah. There was also a secondary romance between the h's brother and the H's sister. Plus I think that not only the h, but also the sister, were both virgins. TWO virgins within the same vicinity in THIS day and age?! Ya right! ROTFL Anyhow, it was corny, but sweet and I liked it. It's the kinda book that Lark would hate, you too I think, Kate. I'm not so sure about you, EB. But, I can hear Lark now. She'd give me a hella of a time for reading and LIKING that book. LOL Poor thing is sick with the flu right now, though. Oh well, I'm off to bed. G'nite!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I don't think it's my kind of book right now either. I am reading love birds in regent's park. Yeah I heard she's sick too. :(

kate | 203 comments RF I finished Miss Isabella. Loved it. Thanks again.

My Paternal great grandmother that came here from England in the 1860's was blind. She had been a schoolteacher when she was young so she must have had sight at one time. Her four sons all became printers for NY newspapers but eventually two of them went blind. No clue why but it must have been something similar to Isabella's story. I thought it was interesting they didn't make it an accident.

You're welcome, Kate! I'm so happy you liked ISABELLA. I too find it interesting that they didn't make her blindness due to an accident. The storyline was more risque that way, don't you think? I wish the author had included an epilogue. At the very least so that we could see Nicolas and Isabella a few years later with some healthy children...especially considering her worry about having the same problems with pregnancy that het mother had. Oh well, I had to give then my own long term happy ending. LOL

TTYL. I'm supposed to be asleep already!!

I'm still slumming in Contemporary Land. LOL I'm now reading The Brands Who Came For Christmas. So far it's pretty good. Senatorial candidate from wealthy political family takes of few days off incognito. He ends up in the h's small hometown. They have a one night stand and she ends up pregnant. He finds out when someone sends him a photo of her pregnant with the message "congratulations" written on the back. I've got to the part when he's gone back to see her.

I don't usually like the "one night stand" aspect, but in this case it was really kinda sweet. It was the eve of the h's twenty-ninth birthday; she's a virgin with no boyfriend prospects and thinks she's gonna end up a thirty year old spinster virgin. She has a little bit too much to drink, and voila! She's a member of a the notorious Brand family. One of five daughters of a mother who is a Selma Hayek look alike. LOL It's a series, so I'm sure each sister and maybe even the Mom, will get their own stories. The h is the one who tries to clean a "normal" life; seeking acceptance among the church lady and PTA set. Needless to say her plans go awry when she ends up pregnant as a single woman. LOL

Anyhow, TTYL!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I just can't get over the fact that you are reading two contemporaries in a row rf. I just finished love birds in regent park. It was good even with the angst. Maybe we're both going to think differently with our reading choices this year. Not! Lol. Hey I'm going to post my review and check out the book you sent me. I probably will do a full length book after that bc the short while delightful miss the mark on depth and I think I would like to have a more in depth romance with a good evil villain aye Kate!

Yes EB, two contemporaries in a row...it's almost a bloody miracle. ROTFL But honestly, the one I'm reading now is soooooo good! You've gotta grab a copy. I think you'd like it. BTW it's freeeeeee!! Here's the link.

http://www.amazon.com/Brands-Came-Chr...

***SPOILER** (LOL)

The H is the son of a wealthy political family--I think I said that before. He just stepped down as Mayor of some city in OK in preparation to announce his intention to run for the senate. His father and g/father before him were both senators. Anyhow, one night he'd pretty much had it with everyone planning his life. He wasn't even sure what HE wanted, so he took off and ended up in the h's small hometown. They meet and end up sleeping together after spending a few hours in each others company.

The h is a good girl. Her family is pretty scandalous--father a bigamist, mother the owner of a saloon. Anyhow, she tries to be the respectable one in her family. Her sisters are a hoot. LOL She goes to church, doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, etc. Anyhow, that night, the night they meet, is the eve of her 29th birthday, and she's having the blues. She meets the H, likes him, has a few beers, then ends up sleeping with him. Please note, she was NOT in a drunken stupor or anything like that, just tipsy. The H is a good guy. He liked her and wanted to sleep with her, but recognizing that she'd had a few beers, decided to just take her home. She directed him to somewhere else, other than the intended destination, and jumped his bones. He wanted to spend more time with her, so he planned on staying in town a few days, and told her he'd spend the night at a local boarding house. However, after he dropped her off, he got a call that his dad had had a stroke and so, of course, he split town and headed home. He never contacted her because he felt like a heel about abandoning her and lying about his identity. He also suffered guilt for just taking off on his father like he did, and decided he'd suck it up and live up to his destiny...being a third gen senator, that is.

When the h discovers that he'd split town, she figured he was just like her good for nothing father. Finds out she's pregnant and the story goes from there. She doesn't find out who he really is until much later. When he finds out about the pregnancy he immediately returns to town. His people and father were telling him not to go, not to get personally involved, have his lawyers handle it, pay her off, that sort of bullshit. But he refused to listen and went to see her for himself. I really like the H. He's such a good guy. He's respectful and really cares for the babies (yes 2, they are the Brands to came for Christmas because that's when the events of some of the story occurs).

I really think you'd like it. On top of the story being good; it's really well written. I like her crazy sisters too. I hope the mother gets a HEA of her own too. Anyhow, grab a copy. What do you have to lose? It's free, after all. LOL
