I invited her after reading her review and thought she'd be fun addition to our group. She feels just like us girls no infidelity. :)

Oh ya know Judge. I've commented on her review before and we chatted back and forth a couple of times. She's cool!
I totally agree with u especially regarding the contemporary romance novels. It's sad that young women today seem to be seriously lacking in morals. So many seem to have no sense of self. It's the only explanation for how so many books with ridiculous story lines like EMERALD do so well.

You know my junky obsession. ROTFLMBO. I just made some 5 alarm chili that liked to curl my toes. Wow! I got the recipe off Pintrest and I thought it seemed like a lot of chili powder but man is good and thick. I like spicy chili.

Umm um Yummy! I LOVE chilli and the spicier the better. We Jamaicans love spicy food. I was out when I responded to your earlier comment, so I kept it short.
Yes, I totally agree with you about the whole quick to have sex in contemporary romance books nowadays. It seems to be the accepted norm to have sex with someone you just met. That says a whole lot about our society today, and none of it good.
I too have a double standard when I read erotic books, as opposed to my romance books. With the erotic novels I expect good, hot sex. I'm always pleasantly surprised when there is a good storyline to go with the sex. Under those circumstances two people having sex before they exchange names doesn't bother me. But I don't like that at all in my romance books. One exception was our beloved Intimate Deception. Remember Vincent and Grace? ROTFL
EMERALD sounds like a poor excuse for a romance novel. Honestly what bothers me even more than the despicable "hero" is the "heroine's" acceptance of his behavior. That's what usually gets to me when I read books like that. THAT is my pet peeve. The heroine who sleeps with the hero even though he clearly has no respect for her and/or has no tender feelings for her, or has made it clear that they have no hope of a future together. I HATE that! Especially in historical romances. Not only do I have no respect for the heroine, I think the behavior is totally out of character for a female living in historical times when virtue was so highly valued. That is my number one pet peeve!
I like JT too. We've chatted back and forth before on one of her other reviews. It might even have been the review for EMERALD. I did see that I had left a comment on that review at a earlier time. She seems pretty cool. Boy, you're one of those people who just collects people wherever you go! LOL

Reading Fanatic wrote: "Elizabeth wrote: "Reading Fanatic wrote: "Elizabeth wrote: "Elizabeth wrote: "Reading Fanatic wrote: "Elizabeth wrote: "Reading Fanatic wrote: "Elizabeth wrote: "Reading Fanatic wrote: "Good mornin..."Actually I think some authors find us a dying breed. Look at Naughty girls for instance they do not do any historical. What does that say. That some people think it's not a popular genre anymore and what better way to attract a new audience than to have your H acting with modern mind set and a h who is on her knees in order to rescue the jerk. Like you said I think she would have protected her reputation better not to mention that a true love relationship was not established for her to risk so much. I hate weak character.
Judge had me at, " I don't like infidelity."lol I think the more the merrier and I know you guys have said the same so whenever I talk with someone on Amazon that sounds like us I throw out the invite. I hope you do too. Books just bring people together. Case and point: I use to work at this cabinet Factory back in the day and if you ever met me in person I am actually a quiet person. I am rather shy when it comes to meeting new people but when I write on here or even in my reviews I just sort of drop all my hang ups.
Anyhow I worked with this girl who apparently had the same personality. She always came across as a snob to me, never talked or seemed to give the time of day to even say hello. So years go by girl still has never said two words to me right. I was on a break and Twilight had just came out. I am reading the 3rd book in the series totally oblivious to my surroundings with my nose in my book when here out of nowhere Christine starts telling me how she devoured the series. It just, in a matter of minutes, changed everything I had thought of her. I think many don't want to be bothered by reading anymore with the audios that when you do meet a book lover like us you get lost in the topics and conversations like we do, daily I might add. LOL I know you get that because your a lot like me in that train of thought.
Ok guys here's a modern romance where the girl doesn't just give it up. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. I don't read a lot of modern but that was a pretty good one. It's about a couple who so don't want to be attracted to one and can't seem to keep out of each others orbit. It's just my opinion but I don't think sex holds the same value as it did in generations past. Women having casual sex are not always seeking a relationship or romance. Men having sex are not looking for commitment or responsibility. I'm not sure if that's a breakdown in society or the natural evolution that's the result of birth control and women's lib.
That's the beauty of historical romance it's takes you a time when everyone knew the rules. It must be harder to create that feel in a modern romance. I think that's why the emphasis is on the sex not the feeling behind it. Again IMO.
Welcome aboard JT.
Thanks for the inclusion. I look forward to reading and chiming in on occasion and finding out about author and book recommends.

Oh God, yes! Reading does bring people together. I've met a few like-minded people on Amazon since I started writing reviews and leaving comments. So few people I know read...especially my favored genre of romance. My husband and his family are big readers, but they read different types of books.
Ya, I think that says it all "weak characters." I put up with them in real life. I certainly don't want them in my books...especially when they are supposed to be the hero or heroine!!!!
Yes, definitely the more the merrier. I think something definitely must be up with Noreen. No one is that busy! I hope nothing happened to her, but at this point I'm thinking it's either that, or she had a family crisis of some sort. Either way, I'm keeping her in my prayers. We haven't heard from her since right before Thanksgiving...if memory serves me correctly. I actually pray I'm wrong, and she is just busy. But I have serious doubts!

Then he began sleeping around on her. Well instead of her getting out and moving forward she now is sleeping around with past boyfriends to get even. I just don't get it. First off if my husband made me feel bad about myself I'd have to leave. I just won't go through that it's non sense. Now with her doing what she's doing it is just as bad as him so eeww!

Hi Judy! Welcome to our little group. It's nice to hear from you again! FYI, I do a freebie list every morning, except Sundays. I usually go through the free historical romance section on Amazon and create a list with the links here on GR. I get it done pretty early in the mornings, so feel free to check it out. I'm glad EB tendered an invitation to you to join us.
I remember leaving a comment on your review for EMERALD DESIRE. You saved me a TON of aggravation with your review. That sounded like one of the worst books ever written. I absolutely don't understand how any woman can read a book like that and enjoy it. But, to each his own.

I agree with you, Kate. That's one of the reasons why I don't read as many contemporary romance books anymore. When I do, I expect casual sex, and am usually surprised (pleasantly so) when that doesn't happen. But if it does, I'm ok with it because it is part of the package.
However too many authors are carrying that casual attitude towards sex into the historical genre, where it has no place. Women who had sex outside of marriage were considered to be whores--no ifs ands or buts about it! Widows had more leeway, but an unmarried female without her virtue was considered unmarriageable. I have no doubt that there we those who were doing their own thing--I mean mankind has always had those who will break the rules. But in those instances, I am sure that it was not flaunted. That being said, I'm usually OK with premarital sex in my historical romances. What I cannot abide is the female protagonists who has sex with a male, who she knows doesn't love her, or in some cases even trust or respect her! WTH?! I'd call a woman today a fool for doing THAT, much less a 19th century, or earlier, female!
I agree that the casual attitude towards sex today is probably partially due to birth control and women's lib. I 'm cool with the woman who sleeps with a guy because she wants to--just don't do it in order to get him to like/love you, do it because you want to do it, whether or not the experience comes with strings attached!!!

Ah maybe the moving explains it. That plus the holidays could be pretty overwhelming. Who knows? All we can do is pray and hope. It's too late in the day for me to start reading a book now. Sigh! I'll probably reread a part of an old favorite...that should help me relax before I eventually fall asleep. If I start a new book now, I could very well be up all night, and I HAVE to go to church tomorrow. The kids are committed to bringing up parts of the nativity scene to the altar. Sigh!

I'm sorry, but the blurb for HAWK'S LADY is so bogged down by extraneous information that I can't really say with any certainty what the heck this book is about. The author--or whoever wrote the blurb--talks about President Reagan...really?! Anyhow, in a nutshell, this is a sudo pirate romance. American pirate--from all appearances--and British heroine, who is his captive. I'll pass, but you're welcome to check it out. Surprisingly there is only one review for this book, and I don't think it's a new one.
CHASING CHRISTMAS is a super short novella; only 25 pages. I'm also not sure in which era the story is set. Ah, never mind. It says it right there in the blurb, 1820. Duh, Caron! LOL
In DEATH BECOMES HER, the h is a body snatcher?!
FYI ladies, ESCAPING FATE is a serial novel. There looks to be at least three other books. This one might very well end in a cliffhanger; although I haven't read any of the reviews.
The ANNIE title is a trilogy; all three books are included. It looks to be a story about Annie's life, spanning the time from age 5 throughout her lifetime. From what I can tell, Annie is a real person. Grandmother to the author, I think; although I may be wrong. I only did a quick perusal.
THORNS IN EDEN sounds intriguing; however, there are quite a few complaints about poor editing. FYI this is two books in one.
QUEEN'S WOLF is set during that period in history when there was a push to put Elizabeth I on the throne instead of her sister, Mary Tudor.
That's it for today, ladies. I have an exciting day of house cleaning planned. Oh joy!!! BTW you may notice that some of the books listed are repeats from earlier lists. I figured, we have a new member and the books are still free, so why not include them?

Thanks again for the list RF. I grabbed the Cythia Wright book. I've never read anything by her and the price is right.I just finished reading Only Enchanting by Mary Balogh. The best thing about it was the title. It's part of her survivor club series and passable if your reading the series. I think it would be a dud as a stand alone though. Which is what I said in my review but it had plenty of 5 star ratings so I could be wrong.....No I'm not. Not really.
I've had 4 birthdays this week. Three grandchildren and my stepson and I have to say people who have children the week before Christmas are just not thinking clearly.
Well the pink, purple and red trees are up. Half the gifts are wrapped (ran out of wrap). And may I say ten thousand blessings on the man who invented the gift bag. Next year I buy nothing that doesn't fit in a gift bag. Most of the dinner is bought. However if someone doesn't hide my e reader I am in serious danger of not getting everything done by the 25th. Wish me luck.
Have a great day gals. Hope everyone out there is not getting over stressed by the last minute whirl.

Haha. You're a mess Kate! I totally relate about the reading though. I've been existing by rereading parts of old favorites. There's no way I can afford to start a new book now. When I have read anything new, it's been novella length Christmas stories. So far I've read seven of them!
I was lucky enough to pick up a set of six Christmas stories for .99 cent, by the authors Julian Hart and another, whose name escapes me right now. The best part is that these six books are available in sets of twos in three other sets, each of which sells for $3.49 and up. I couldn't believe my good fortune! At the time of purchase I thought there were only three books in the set, and I was happy enough with that. But then I realized that there are six! The next day the price went up to $3.49, but really, considering that you can buy TWO of the six books for that price or higher, even the $3.49 is a steal!
We are pretty much done with the wrapping. I just need to find the right size box for one last gift, and fill the kids stockings, which we'll do on Christmas Eve. We are going to my sister in law's on Christmas day. She lives about an hour away. We'll be sending the night at my husband's parents. They live a few minutes away from their daughter. On Christmas Eve we will be going to my other sister in law's, who lives about fifteen minutes away from us here on the south shore. The kids get to exchange presents with their cousins and then we all head to Burlington, to the other sister's house, the next day. I will be making pasta sauce for the Christmas Eve dinner. According to my daughter I make the best sauce. Even my hubby loves it...that's a high compliment coming from a picky Italian. LOL.
Anyhow, I've avoided my cleaning for long enough. So I'm back to it. I have to take my little one to his gymnastics class in just over an hour. Good luck with the rest of your holiday prep and PUT THE KINDLE DOWN!!!! ROTFL

Your right I am a mess. I wasn't going to start a new book but Live-brary notified me Only Enchanting was in. I was only going to peek. It's the first drink that gets you. You 'd think I'd learn.

But that's the whole deal with addiction, isn't it? Normally smart, intelligent people turn into complete idiots when their drug of choice is available...they just can't resist it! ROTFL I hear you about the "just a peek." I"ve done that lots of times. I usually start off with the end of the book and before you know it, I've pretty much read the entire story from back to front, no less! LOL
I've decided to treat myself this afternoon. I reached my cleaning goal today and am now ready to take the little one to gymnastics. I have to take the kids to the library when my daughter gets home from school, but I am going to indulge my craving for a new book and read yet another Christmas novella! Sigh TTYL
LOL

Good morning, ladies. Here's the freebie list. This first title included two short Christmas stories set in the Regency period. I warn you; however, Ms. Eaton is not know for her historical accuracy with her stories. As a matter of fact, she's been downright horrible. I'm gonna give this book a check, but I don't expect it to be any better than books of hers I've read before. She's on my DO NOT BUY list...although I will check out her freebies from time to time.

It just amazes me. I was called and asked to come into work. The lady did not show for work. Such an easy job to not show up. Anyhow I got to sing Christmas carols with the residents and my lady. Such fun. I started my free book from Ruth Hartman. It's pretty good but I'm only at 20% ttyl
That's awesome, EB! I'm glad you're doing so well with the new job. Ya, it's amazing how irresponsible some people can be. Then, when they get fired, they say life is unfair! Which was the RH book? I've read a couple by her, although I can't remember any titles right now. I'd have to check. I do have her Romancing The Dustman's Daughter in my cloud library to read.

I am really taken back by how she is because she doesn't sound like she should be doing what she's doing. Like a person who goes to church every Sunday but Monday through Saturday carry on a with no sign of God shining through in their character. I smile more and feel good about what I do and this lady comes in grumbling and looking for any flaw in my character. I just don't get it. I don't look for bad but the good in people. I hope my clients see that in me and know I'm there for them.

I had a touch of the angst earlier with it but thank god her h is defiant because her mother is a miserable so and so. She is unhappy and holds it against her daughter but the daughter is rebelling a bit even though it is in secret she is still not allowing her mother dictate to her. I love that in a h. The H has not established enough for me to make him out yet. What I see I like but time will tell how much I like him. LOL
FYI ladies, I was flipping through that freebie we had today, A Kiss of Christmas by Jillian Eaton. I believe I mentioned that Ms. Eaton is notoriously inaccurate in her historical aspects of her stories. Well I realized that the first story in that title is one I've read before, The Winter Wish. I gave it 3 stars because the story was tolerable, but as usual the historical inaccuracies were numerous and overwhelming. The hero Devlin Heathcliff, Viscount of Winswood is styled Lord Heathcliff, instead of Lord Winswood. Worse, the very single, never been married heroine, Sarah Dawson is styled as Lady Dawson, which so incorrect it makes my teeth grind. Her equally unmarried friend is also referred to as Lady Last Name, instead of Lady First Name. As a matter of fact, every noble is incorrectly addressed in the story, and there are a few. Truth be told, I don't know the heroine is even correctly titled "Lady." I wouldn't be surprised to discover that her father is a baron or a viscount, in which case she'd be a Honorable Miss.
Ms. Eaton knows absolutely NOTHING about the correct forms of address, and has made absolutely NO EFFORT to improve her lack of knowledge in this area, or any other, for that matter. At one point in the story, the hero's servants are unable to make it to work one morning because of the night's snowstorm--where the heck do they live if not in their master's home? Downtown Abbey, anyone? I don't think this author does any research whatsoever into the regency period. Worse, she doesn't even seem to read or watch regency set books/programs! So WHY is she writing Regency era books? That is the question I'd like answered. Honestly, I don't know why I gave this book 3 stars. It really didn't deserve more than 2. I think the H and h were cute. Although I couldn't stand the best friend. Unfortunately, the second story in the two book collection is the friend's story. But because of Ms. Eaton's lack of care with regards to historical accuracy, I've banned her from my reading list. I can forgive an author almost anything, so long as I know they are trying their best and they care about putting forth a quality work. Alas I see no such effort or care on Ms. Eaton's part!

She's only going to make a profit if people want to buy inaccuracies. In which case I would think that the before mentioned would take care of itself. BTW not to change the subject but did you ever watch Death Comes To Pemberly? I watched again last weekend on my DVD. I still hate their choices for casting but enjoyed the story.

No I didn't. I still have it taped. I did watch P&P, the 1995 version with Colin Firth. I watched it on Sunday while I was wrapping presents. It was totally awesome! I love the fact that they were able to give so much more detail because it was much longer than the regular movie length.
There will always be people who don't care about inaccuracies. But like I always say, if you want to be a great writer you have to do what you can to make your book appeal to as large a group of people as possible. People who don't care about inaccuracies will read an inaccurate book, but people who do care, will not. However, if you write a book that is historically accurate, both sets of people, those who do care about inaccuracies and those who don't, will read it. I mean have you ever heard a person complain that a book was "too accurate?" LOL Maybe they'll say there was too much history, but never that it's too accurate. The writer with the accurate book will have a greater potential of gaining more fans.
As I said before, I won't read her books anymore. I read three, I think. THE WINTER WISH was my first. I can't remember the second one, but The Spinster and the Duke was the last...I either gave that 1 or 2 stars, I can't remember. It was horribly inaccurate with the adult Duke's mother threatening to disinherit him, even though he was TWENTY TWO at the time, and his father had died when he was SIX! And if I remember correctly, he'd yet to gain the title even though he should have, and in the REAL world, would have inherited the Dukedom, immediately upon his father's death, at the age of 6. How the hell was his mother going to withhold his inheritance, and HOW am I supposed to ignore such a GROSS historical inaccuracy that impacts so greatly on the storyline?! THAT was the hold the mother had over the hero, to force him to break it off with the h. The story then progressed some twenty years or more down the road, when the two reunite, after he'd married and had kids, and was widowed. I HATED that story because I could not for one instance buy into the stupid reason he'd left the woman he supposedly loved. Had it been his father threatening to disinherit him, I'd have liked it better. And even then, all his father could've done was withhold the unentailed estate and money, NOT the title or any property that was entailed thereto. Ugh! The sad part is that Ms. Eaton actually has a talent for coming up with some intriguing storylines. That SPINSTER AND DUKE one was a nice idea, with the older couple reuniting after being forcibly separated for years. The Duke had always loved her, and as soon as he was able he came to get her. Of course, *I* thought she was too quick to get back with him. But then that's me. I like my female leads to stand strong and give a Hero hell before finally submitting to his will. Let the bastards work for it!!! LOL

Haha I hear you. The h in the SPINSTER book wasn't THAT bad. Iwas just going off on a tangent. LOL. My problem with that book was the inaccuracies. Had they not been so prevalent I'm sure I'd have liked the book just fine..
I told you this job was tailor made for you. I'm not surprised about your co-worker's bad attitude. It's the reason why I told you that the problem that existed with the "problem" client could do easily have been a matter if personality difference. Remember I told you, not everyone who works on your field are meant to. It's always nice top feel appreciated. That's great, because the more reliable you prove yourself, the more work they will give you!
I'm shocked, EB! YOU haven't finished wrapping presents?! That's amazing, what with you being Martha Stewart and all. I feel horribly let down! ROTFL

Good morning, ladies! Here's the freebie list for today. This will be it until Saturday, as tomorrow is Christmas and the day after I will be at my in law's house (we're spending Christmas night there.) Anyhow, this first one is book 4 in THE GENTLEMEN NEXT DOOR series. We have already had the first three books on our freebie list. Book 4 completes the series.

SHADOWS OF SLAVERY is completely unrealistic. It's about the forbidden romance between a white woman and black man in 1820 England! Really?! I don't think so. The hero is said to be a merchant...in what part of England I'd like to know. Sigh Anyhow, it's free so I added it to our list. Check it out at your will...I will be passing on it. Make sure to check out LMNII's review. I like her reviews. They are usually pretty reliable. She says the book is a realistic portrayal of the time period, which means that it was depressing! I don't know if there was a HEA...how could there be? Even if the H took the h to Africa they wouldn't have been accepted during that time period.
LOVE BEYOND TIME is a repeat in honor of our newest member. It just became available as a freebie again today.
THE REST FALLS AWAY is a vampire romance set in Regency England. Some readers love it, others hate it. Such is life. Anyhow, I searched through a ton of reviews until I found one with spoilers. If you want to know how the book ends read that review. Here's the link. FYI there is no HEA. This is a continuing series. There are two other books...at least. I'm sorry, it looks like there are 5 books in all; all part of the continuing series, and a short story which equals 6. Based on how the book ends, I would not classify it as a romance; not in the way we are used to our romances, one woman, one man, and a HEA.

HIGHLAND SORCERER is another freebie repeat, and so is LOVE'S RECKONING.
BLUE BAYOU is book 2 in a series. What this particular book is about; however, is anyone's guess. The blurb for each of the books in the series, says exactly the same thing!!! It tells of the various exploits of each of the family members, presumably each of whom gets his/her own book in the series. If you're interested, you'll have to read reviews to figure out the storyline for each of the books. Good luck with that! I read the first three reviews for this particular book to see if I could garner some kind of synopsis, but they are all useless in that regard. Sigh
That's it for today, ladies. I hope you all have a very, very MERRY CHRISTMAS!! TTYL!

Hey EB! Happy to hear you had such a good Christmas! Mine was good too, except for this nasty cold that I have. Despite the illness, I was able to fully participate in the festivities, so I wont complain. Sounds like you hit the jackpot with Amazon GC's!!!! Yay! But, if one was from a Secret Santa, should you be trying to figure out who? LOL
Wow! You've got the Midas touch when it comes to contests! That's awesome! I looked up both books and they sound good. I've not been reading as whenever I'm involved in a book it keeps me from doing what I need to get done. Now that the holis are behind us, I am looking forward to settling down with a good book. I did read a shortie this morning, Double Wedding: Sweet Historical Mail Order Brides of Lowell. I rated it 3 1/2 stars, because although it was really sweet, the author failed to give the reader any real insight into the couple's relationship. Anyhow, I posted my review if you wanna check it out. It was one of our freebies on a previous list--a recent one, I think.
I earned a ton of money from Amazon through promotions. I have prime membership and every time I made a purchase if I deferred using my prime shipping Amazon gave me a dollar to spend towards digital content--including books. I made $30 doing that, so I was able to purchase a number of books to complete various series I have in my cloud. Despite my good fortune, I was still cheap enough to only buy books that were on sale. ROTFL
Anyhow, TTYL! I have yet to accomplish a single thing today...no wait, I did pay bills! Sigh

Sounds like you've got a great reading plan. I wish I did too. This cold is kicking my butt. I'm so stuffy; my nose burns, and I can hardly smell anything. I got an Amazon Fire TV. It came today and I hooked it up. I've been watching Netflix all afternoon, catching up on Supernatural. It's a television series that I've watched for years, but lost track during season eight. Luckily Netflix has the two most recent seasons...eight and nine...on instant streaming. So I've been watching the rest of season eight. I'll probably watch season nine tomorrow , but there's over twenty episodes per season. LOL

LOL

You mean my fire tv? Ya I'm super happy with it. Of course it's only been one day, so we'll see. One of our books on KS is currently under review. The nomination period just ended today. We should be getting emails soon, 're wherever or not it made it. It's the one about the countess and the captain...I think that was actually the title too. LOL
Anyhow, yes this cold is nasty, especially in the evenings, as is typically the case. I took Nyquil, so I should be passing out soon. That FIRST DANCE WITH YOU, was that a short story?
One of my New Year's resolutions is to participate in more online contests to win books. Haha. Another is to use you as a role model and stop procrastinating on some things that I want to do!! And I'm going to start seriously thinking about what I want to do when I go back to work. I'm hoping I can do at least part time next fall when my son goes to kindergarten.

I agree. The contemporaries are so bad for being shallow relationship they make it seem as though all people sleep around without wanting anything in return and it is so easily excepted and revered. I had a woman get smart with me because I faulted a book for the shallow relationship between the couple. She was nasty about it and all these reviews were so positive except me and this other ladies and she got pissed because we were honest. I feel sorry that a quick bang a bars bathroom is your idea of romance. I mean I like erotic but then again it's labeled as such and I expect that but not all contemporaries are that shallow you know it's like they should classify it as such. A bars bathroom can paint an ugly image for me. LOL The author also had the couple on the fourth date after they had sex 3 times or so not even knowing the each others last name. That is disgusting IMO.
