Well the modern feel is mainly due to where it is located. It's not in England. I really am enjoying it like I said things I perceived are not as I thought. Now there was one part during their sex scene that I didn't appreciate the crude language as far as them carelessly not considering her getting pregnant. It was handled. I don't want you to get the wrong impression because I was faulting it because I thought they were going to do the deed and she was fine with a chance of conception. That was part of the modern mind frame. The other problem about incorrect addresses the H is a duke and he is not addressed as your grace but that is because he refuses to except his title and lives on a remote island named Tobago. It's a real place in the Carribean and I looked on line the pics are gorgeous.

Yes, I have to say that the Caribbean is gorgeous! But then again, I am biased. LOL

I wasn't taking your criticism the wrong way. I took it as critique rather than as being negative. I'm so bloody tired I'm stupid. LOL I read for all of 15 minutes today. I just want to get this book done so I have move on to greener pastures. Don't get me wrong, the story is a sweet one...maybe a bit too sweet. Sigh

The Duke not wanting to use his title is great. I love it when an author goes against convention, but takes the time to explain it. For example the h who inherits her father's Earldom...how the heck did that happen? That was not the norm in historical times--assuming it ever happened, so when an author does that I'd like an explanation as to why it happened. Did the father get a royal decree to that effect, or maybe an earlier family member? Some explanation, ANY explanation is nice.

I read one book where the author had the the H and h separate because the H's mother threatened to disinherit him. HE was the ONLY son of a Duke, and his father had died at age 6. Thus by right he should've inherited the title at the age of 6 when his father died. How is it then, that when he's 22 his mother can disinherit him? SHE wouldn't even have been his guardian for crissakes! That position would have been given to a man. The story was good, but because the reason the H had left the h was so unbelievable, I just couldn't buy into any other part of the story. Oh I remember now, it was The Spinster and the Duke. That author writes horribly modern historical romances. They are always wracked with inaccuracies--and I mean outrageous ones at that!

There was another book where she had the Viscount's servants being unable to report to work one morning because of a snowstorm. When have you ever heard of a master's servants living anywhere other than within his household? It was ridiculous! I wish she'd watch just one episode of DOWNTOWN ABBEY! LOL

Why so tired? What have you been up to RF? LOL When do you think your going to read about my Derek Craven? No pressure I want you to take your time, be fully rested and to just enjoy. So far most everyone I know that read it just said EH? Can you believe that. EH? LMAO I mean that's fine that just leaves him all to me. ROTFL Lark said Eh wasn't impressed and then Aspoon was like whatever and Kate now she liked the book but felt the time to get together took a bit too long and the villain got off way too easy.

I do agree with the fact she deserved far worse but once she was out of the picture and DC was reunited with Sara I didn't care. A man who has everything money can buy brought to his knees by a country bumpkin. I was dazzled. I may be alone on this because something tells me your going to believe as Kate did. LOL This book I'm reading now would really frustrate you Kate. The H is so fickle but I am being kind of psychological about it. His father was a monster. He attacked and berated him his whole life. ***SPOILER*** He spied on him making love to the h and then proceeded to criticize the whole scene. The fact that the H would then doubt himself being worthy for the h is believable IMO. I think he was still hearing his fathers voice saying he wasn't good enough for her. It was very painful to read what was stolen from these two but I was really moved by the story and the flashbacks. I should be able to post my review tomorrow.

It sounds like a really touching story. You know I'm a sucker for a tear jerker. LOL

I'm exhausted because I had a bad night's sleep. Had to drag my butt out of bed this morning and Monday's are my crazy running around days. Of course with the holidays it's worse. I dropped off my son, went shopping, went directly back to pick him up from school. Then it was home for a quick snack and then off to his gymnastics class. While he was there I ran home to eat and make the beds. Then it was back to pick him up--his class is only 45 minutes--and from there I went directly to get my daughter from school. Then I took them to the library to get books and hang out for a while and then home for homework! I'm tired! LOL

RF~ Wow I recommend a B12 complex for your day. Man no wonder your tired. You must feel better because all that and no headache. I'm glad you at least got that under control. I have my annual Christmas party this weekend. Saturday I have nieces and nephews coming over to do crafts and have fun. My nephews are 5 year old twins and my great niece is coming too. Kate~ You are just mean can my answer be Derek St. Vincent? ROTFLMBO Honestly they both owned gentlemen gambling establishments. They could both keep me well entertained. St. Vincent though is the rogue bad boy and I just don't really think we'd get on well. Put in a desperate situation he chose to abduct Lillian. Derek in a tough situation chose first to send her home to keep her safe and the second time he chose marriage. Sure he is rough around the edges but I like that. They both knew how to please but Derek appealed to me better I would say. Sebastian seemed a little too rehearsed. It's all about the flare ladies and thinking fast on your feet. LMBO!

You and your parties, EB. And all the crafts! You're my SHERO!!!

But I have to say, I'm kinda proud of myself. I took my kids to Clay Chicks this Saturday and they made Christmas presents for their aunt and grandmother. It's one of those places whet you paint clay items and then they fire then for you in a kiln. I had so much fun helping the kids paint and decorate their stuff. I even did a beautiful handprint of my little one on a plate for his Nana and wrote his name and the year in paint. I must say I did a good job...if I do say so myself. ROTFL

That sounds fun. Maybe someday you could give Palmer Clay a try. There are web pages or go on youtube but the nice thing is you can bake it in your own oven at a lower temp. I have make votives for tea lights, magnets, plant critters that hang on the side of a flower pot, jewelry boxes . The ideas are endless. They come in a variety of colors. Even metallic. I bet it was loads of fun because all the kids were probably so excited.

Never heard of them, but thanks for the tip! As a matter of fact, another mom and I were just talking about possibly doing our own plates, etc. at home, but figured we'd need a kiln. LOL Her niece had done handprints with her kids a little while back, on regular plates, with regular old paint (not house paint LOL) and then put it to dry in her oven. Of course, hers wasn't clay. I will definitely check out Palmer Clay, and I will tell my friend about it!

Here are a couple freebies for today. This first one is a paranormal romance with ghosts. Sounds borderline erotic too. It is a full length novel.

http://smile.amazon.com/Legend-Blue-R...

http://smile.amazon.com/Captured-Vict...

http://smile.amazon.com/Distraction-Y...

DISTRACTION is a paranormal time travel romance. Eighteen year old h is a witch in Salem. After she is arrested for witchcraft, her grandmother sends her to the future to keep her safe. There she meets the H. There is a bad guy, who is a warlock, who wants the he for himself.

That's it for new freebies today. Wow! That isn't much at all. As a matter of fact, I think CAPTURED was on one of our earlier lists. Oh well, such is life. I'm sure none of us NEEDS anymore books. LOL TTYL

Let me give you a fun cheap craft idea for Christmas. If you know someone with a baby it work best because you can get baby food jars off them. Take and paint the lid or you can wait and I'll give you another idea at the end if you don't like the paint idea. Then go to the craft store around you and in their Christmas section they should sell ornaments for the small Christmas trees. I found a package of several snowman for $2. Take your lid and glue it on the inside center of the lid . I found glue that worked in water also get some pretty glitter if you have none and a bottle of mineral oil. Do the lids a day or so before the craft takes place so it has plenty of time to dry. Fill the jar with mineral oil and pour some glitter in after. Spread glue liberally around the lip of the jar and on the inside lip of the lid and screw on the lid. Turn it over and you have a snow globe. When you set it down on at on table you can use lace or ribbon hot glued around the base. I made these with my kids years ago and we still have them. :)

kate | 203 comments Ok EB you and Derek can paddle over and visit me and the Saint anytime. But don't overstay your welcome. There is a reason we're on a deserted island.

FQ fell off the track. Really it is a good story but it took forever to get to the big bang. They were married. They were sleeping together for months. In all fairness the H was being sensitive to the h who had been raped, She had also been beaten repeatedly by her father so she was a little man shy in the beginning. However by the 78% point of the book even the h finally asks the H if he's ever had an affliction or injury that makes him incapable. So you see I wasn't the only one who thought he'd never get off the pot.

They said we were going to have a n'oreaster but it turned out to be just a heavy rain. Thank God.

It is a good book. It just slid from five to four for me. The H is sensitive and caring. The h is so battered by life that she is hanging by a psychological thread. When they finally have sex they have tender sex not hot sex but it fit the story better. It's a little slow in parts but Tisdale showed more depth of characters in this book

Kate~ What did you think of my answer to your question? Go ahead let me have it. LOL I know so many are so taken by the infamous St. Vincent, and he made me laugh at his roguish comments. But in the wallflower series I would choose Westcliffe over Sebastian. Apparently Derek too. I really had to think about your question and as I was replying came across my true feelings. He was perfect with Evie because he made her stronger and she for him because she made him want to be a better man.

I guess though for me I would have trouble trusting him. It's just my hang up. If I had to choose between Westcliffe and Derek it would be Westcliffe. He was just absolutely the full package for me. Totally dedicated to his wife. Who would you choose between Harry Rutledge and Leo Hathaway?

message 972: by kate (new)

kate | 203 comments Well I had to paddle back from the island to say Derek would be a close second. Westcliffe not so much. But part of the reason I like St Vincent better is probably because I liked Evie better also. Though I may be splitting hairs.

What book was Leo Hathaway in? It's not ringing a bell. I may have missed that one. However I know I like him better then Rutledge because I didn't like Rutledge at all at all.

Sometimes it pays to be cheap! I've wanted a copy of Howell's HIGHLAND CONQUEROR for the longest time--ever since I read the book, which I borrowed from my library. However, I refused to pay $5 for a book I've already read, so I've had it on my Kindle wishlist forever!!!! Today that book, along with three others by other authors, is the Daily Kindle Romance Deal. I just picked up my very own copy of it for $1.99!!!! And I didn't even pay for it; I used promotion credits that Amazon gave me as an incentive not to use my Prime shipping these past weeks.

This time of the year is so busy for them that they try to bribe Prime members not to use our two day shipping. For each order I decline to use it, I get a dollar towards digital purchases. I was all over it this year because for the first time Amazon allowed you to use the promotions to purchase e-books. In the past, it could only be used for instant videos and digital music. So far I've earned $20!!!!! I'm smiling all the way to the bank...or should I say, to the Kindle store! ROTFL

Leo was actually the older brother of Beatrix and Poppy and his book with Catherine Marks( the governess of the girls) was Married By Morning. If you haven't read it I'll ask you the same question Sebastian or Derek. It's really not much of a question because I know the answer to it. LMBO Everyone loves the bad boy. ROTFL I just reread what you wrote and I guess it wouldn't matter if you hated Rutledge that much the other man could be just about anyone and you'd prefer him.

Here are a few freebies for today. This first one is the prequel to MURDER AT LOCKE ABBEY, which was a freebie on our list a few weeks ago. This book is the romance between the parents of the h in MURDER.

http://www.amazon.com/Her-Saving-Grac...

http://www.amazon.com/English-Garden-...

http://www.amazon.com/Out-Her-League-...

http://www.amazon.com/Time-Change-Tra...

http://www.amazon.com/Resisting-Highl...

http://www.amazon.com/Forbidden-Love-...

http://www.amazon.com/Where-Bluebirds...

http://www.amazon.com/Affair-Remember...

http://www.amazon.com/Embrace-Wild-Da...

ENGLISH GARDEN supposedly will appeal to fans of JA's P&P...right up your alley EB, if it can live up to it's claim. LOL The only thing I can't tell is whether it's a stand alone, or the first in a continuing series. I'm leaning towards the first.

OUT OF HER LEAGUE is an erotic novella--at least I would classify it as erotic--but at the heart is a really sweet romance. It's set in Victorian times and the h is a nurse--this is in the early days of the nursing profession as established by Florence Nightingale. Anyhow, the H is the younger son of a Viscount and is returned home from the Crimean War (I think). He is injured and the h is assigned to do "home" visits with him. They start a rather raunchy affair and from there the story progresses. I loved the two together and the HEA was very satisfying! You can check out my review if you like...it's on the first page.

TIME CHANGE is of course, a time travel novel. The main character is a man go gets thrown back to the past right before the civil war. There are a few negative review, but the overall rating is 4 stars. The H is trying to stop the civil war, not sure how he's gonna manage that. FYI, I checked out the second book in the series and it's the same H, so this may very well be a continuing series. Figured you ought to know that before you start reading this book, only to find out you'll have to pay to get the end of the story. Not sure how many books are in the series; it's at least three.

RESISTING THE HIGHLANDER is set in the 1800's.

FORBIDDEN LOVE sounds a little different from the typical historical romance. A married h, trapped in a loveless marriage with a philandering husband, who by the way, she married for money. The H is a steel worker from the wrong side of the tracks. The h is a "society lady" although, there are no aristocrats.

BLUEBIRDS is sent in 1600's Salem during the "witch" era. LOL

Not sure what the heck AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER is all about. It's a new book; no reviews. The h and H in present day begin hearing "voice" from the past or some such. Sorry, that's the best I can do. LOL

EMBRACE THE WILD DAWN sounds good! The h is the daughter of a redcoat who joined switched sides and joined the American rebels. She grew up abandoned and poor in England, and has absolutely no love for the father who abandoned them. The H arrives, at her father's behest, to accompany her back to America to a fiance he has selected for her (his bloody nerve). The h fights the H at every turn, of course they fall is love, have a lot of difficulties, and ultimately find their HEA.

That's it for the freebies today, ladies. TTYL

Yeah I just finished SOTF and I'm done with JA and Michael I'm not going to do a review because I didn't read a lot just enough to tell me it wasn't going to work for me. I think to be fair to the author if I would have read the description I would have never got it to begin with so I take part of the responsibility on that and it was free so there. I finished The Mad Earl's Wife. Loved it. Maybe because I was up at 5:30 this morning with a migraine. I think the weather triggered it

I finished Frederick's Queen also. Gave it 4 stars. It had some flaws and probably was closer to 3.5 stars but what the hell it's Christmas. And they were a very nice couple.

I found my purple tree. Xmas is saved. The box had been in the garage and the tree was in the oil burner room in the basement. We are so disorganized I'm surprised we can find the car in the morning.

I really need to stop reading and get my act together or we'll be celebrating Xmas in January. Got nothing done today because of the headache. Threw a package of hot dogs and a can of beans on the counter and told them they were on their own. Then went back to bed until 3pm. Didn't even read so you know it was bad.

Ouch! I can empathize Kate! I've been there with the headaches many a time. Thankfully, my recent bouts with that particular affliction seems to have abated. LOL I hope you feel better soon. Yes, giving the reading a break would be a smart course to pursue. :-)

I had to smile when you said you told your family they were on their own with the hot dogs and beans. That's one of my favorite phrases to say to my husband regarding dinner--well any meal, actually--you're on your own. He's so familiar with it, that sometimes when he asks what's for dinner, all I have to do is look at him and he says it to himself. ROTFL

Who wrote The Mad Earl's Wife? I can't seem to find it on Amazon. It sounds dashedly familiar, but I can't remember if it's a book I started reading and didn't get too far into. That's happened a time or two; I don't consider it a DNF book because I haven't put any real effort into reading the book, so I just put it aside for another time. I don't review those books because I intend to return to it at another time.

The rare book that is DNF, I stop reading at a particular point, then quickly peruse through the rest of the book so I can write a fully informed review, and I have absolutely no intentions of ever reading that book again! LOL

I haven't been reading much lately either. I think it was a good thing that I was reading RTH. It was interesting, but not enough to prevent me from getting stuff done. I finally finished it today...thank God. I'll wait until tomorrow, but I really need to get into a GOOD book!

I hope your head feels better soon! BTW WHEN the heck did you read M by M? I can't keep up with your reading. You move so fast!!

I didn't read M by M . EB asked me a question about it and I realized I had skipped that one. I'm on the waiting list at Live-brary. It's $6 on amazon and I can wait. It's never more then a week or two and God knows I have enough on my TBR list.

I'm thinking I may need to have a read free day once a week. This place is getting pretty grotty.

Yup that's the book I was thinking of. I started reading it, forever ago, but never went anywhere with it. I think I was expecting it to be different, and when it wasn't what I thought I decided to wait and read it at another time when I was in the right frame of mind. If I remember correctly he had some affliction or the other. I remember thinking it was a good book, just not what I was looking for at the time.

Yes, I hear you. I've waited for books up to two weeks, but no longer than that I don't think.

kate | 203 comments The hero has an affliction? Now I can't wait. Something good I hope.

Did I mention I finished Love life Murder. It was pretty good.

I read The Defiant Wallflower also. Believe me you don't want to go there. I did a review on both.

Ya I remember you saying that you were less than impressed with DEFIANT. Too bad I'd already purchased the darn book. Oh well, there goes another .99 cents down the drain. If you liked LLM you should try MURDER AT LOCKE ABBEY by the same author. It was a freebie a while back, so hopefully you had grabbed it. Also, HER SAVING GRACE is a freebie from yesterday or the day before by that same author. It's the prequel to M at LA.

kate | 203 comments Yes I do have Murder at Locke Abby. I'll have to move it up to my short list. I just spoke to Lark she commented on my Defiant review. Penny did too. Seems like we're all swimming in the same stream.

kate | 203 comments By the way normally I would say try Defiant maybe it will work for you. But it is a hot mess. I seriously doubt you'd like it. I think the positive reviews come from the writers website. It's cute and she gives a lot of free and 99 cent deal on it. It probably buys her some good reviews.

Ya you're probably right. BTW, HER SAVING GRACE is still free. It's the story of the parents of the h in MURDER AT LOCKE ABBEY. Here's the link.

Good morning, ladies! Here are a few freebies for today. I'm not sure about this first one. The overall rating is 3 stars which, in my mind, is always questionable at best. FYI, it's a time travel romance. Oh, the second book on the list is the follow up to LONG LOST. It's an ongoing trilogy.

http://smile.amazon.com/Long-Lost-Cen...

http://smile.amazon.com/Long-Last-Cen...

http://smile.amazon.com/LEGEND-DAWN-C...

http://smile.amazon.com/Through-Woman...

http://smile.amazon.com/Songbird-Juli...

http://smile.amazon.com/Disguised-Lov...

LEGEND OF THE DAWN is a freebie box set! Yay! It's an ongoing series, and all three books are included in the set. If you even THINK that you MAY read it, grab it! Right now each book in the trilogy sells for $4.99 each!!

THROUGH THE EYES OF A WOMAN is kinda weird. Not sure why it's in the romance section, but... It's about a woman, at the end of her life, who relives her life through memories. The memories make up the story.

DISGUISED FOR LOVE is set during the Depression era. It's about three sisters from a wealthy family, who are looking for husbands, but they want to be sure that the men they choose really love them, not just their money. One sister comes up with a scheme to enable them to be able to do so. First review says there are Christian references, but I'm not sure if it's an inspirational romance.

That's it for today, ladies. It's really not that much. Oh well, such is life.

Hey Kate, I think we're talking at cross purposes. The H I was talking about that has the affliction is the one in THE MAD EARL, which you've already read. He had an illness, didn't he? Something to do with headaches?

I don't know if you were thinking that I meant the H in M by M has an affliction. I haven't read that book, and I wouldn't want you to get too excited. LOL

kate | 203 comments Awww. Busted my bubble. Yes the Mad Earl had migraines. But his mother had died of a brain hemmorage and he had been told he had what his mother had and would be dead in 6 months.

Ah I see. I just remember him thinking he was going mad. LOL Sorry about the bubble thing. I had to make sure you hadn't set yourself up for unrealistic expectations. Haha

My client was very tired and I think she feels she needs to entertain me. LOL I told her you know if your tired it's your bodies way of saying your tired. So she slept most of my visit. She ate pretty good for me and walked a little. Next week I am going back to my first clients house. I wore a headband with red antlers and I had a pair of reindeer ear rings the poor thing was just too tired to enjoy it.
