I've actually never read anything by MD. I don't have any of her books, but I did look her up on Amazon and I have seen and even perused a few of her titles, but have never purchased any. You know how cheap I can be! LOL
I haven't read anything by KB either. Is she the one that you contacted on FB?
Yes, since dealing with NG our expectations for a prompt response has certainly lowered. ROTFL!
My head is much better today, thanks! I don't know if it's sinuses...it very well could be. Until a few years ago I did not have any problems with allergies and then I started noticing that around spring every year I'd suffer a lot of sneezing, etc.
I do know that oftentimes I don't drink a lot and when I get dehydrated I suffer from headaches...that was the conclusion we reached several years ago when I had daily headaches and my doc put me through a battery of tests...I mean a WHOLE battery of them! Finally, after I'd thought about it, I discussed with her the fact that I literally had only three drinks a day--tea in the morning and a soda with lunch and dinner, all of which were caffeinated! She almost strangled me! LOL She's a fellow Jamaican and a doc I used to work with so we had a really good relationship.
Anyway, since then I've tried to be conscientious about drinking enough fluids. The big problem is that I HATE water! I have to remind myself constantly to drink and when I get busy it gets tossed to the wayside, which I think has been the major cause of my headaches the last few days. Sigh Thanks for asking!

I finally read the excerpt for the CAPTAIN AND THE COUNTESS on KS. I liked it; seems like it might be a fun read. I already voted for it yesterday based on the short blurb, but decided I wanted to read the excerpt. The only thing I don't like is the H's insistence that he wants a Duke for his sister to marry. I don't usually like it when either of the characters is set on a particular title or a title of any sort. It makes them seem too calculating. Why couldn't he just want his sister to marry a titled gentleman, or simply a nice one? Anyhow, my vote still stands.

Anyhow I have it and it's a loanable if you ever want to give her a try. *****SPOILER****** The H was a virgin. You don' read that often. LOL It was a good read IMO. Aspoon loved it too. I'm glad your feeling better. That was like Sins of the Father the underlining got disturbing but I still liked it.

I should've mentioned that I was living in Florida at the time...can you imagine not drinking in year round scorching heat?! Yep, I did that. I'm better nowadays, but not great. I do try though, and I've been better since I started noticing what I was doing the last couple of days. That's actually thanks in part to EB, who questioned me as to the cause of the headaches...I hadn't really given it any thought before then.
I'm not into Pirate books either, but like you I'm not anti. However, I should point out Kate that Pirate plots should be a good source of maimed characters for you. Consider Captain Hook! ROTFL
Uh oh, no purple tree! What are ya gonna do...put up the pink or the red? I've actually seen a pink tree before, don't think I've ever seen a red one, but definitely I've not see a purple. As for the green trees ma'am, it's almost winter in the Northeast, there are NO green trees outside! LOL

I like my men to know what they're doing EB, the more whorish the better. ROTFL I watched a couple of scenes in the Outlander series--the one based on that controversial book--and I discovered that the H was a virgin, yet he gave the h multiple orgasms their first time. Is it just me, or is that not really believable? I'm undecided re that issue. LOL

Hated The Outlander. Nothing about him was believable IMO. But I agree with you. I like my H to bring a little something to the table. Hopefully not a std but at least a little creative experience.Ah Captain Hook. He was my first. Peter was too much of a jock for my taste. Hanging out with the boys. Playing sports. Or there could have been another problem.
The pink goes in the living room. Purple dining room. Red den. If all goes well after Xmas I may hunt down a blue one for the front porch for next year. My shutters are blue.
The pines are still green they can go hunt one down.
OK ladies, here are a few freebies for today. BTW did anyone notice that one of the titles I posted yesterday was an erotic novel? It was entitled CELESTE (THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) I didn't notice until I started perusing through the book. It's a little weird, even for me who does read erotic romance from time to time. The H calls his manhood "fat dick." ROTFL It's actually kinda funny. Anyhow, I don't know how I didn't see it, but at the bottom of the cover it does say Gothic Erotic.

SEDUCE ME PLEASE is book two in the Prodigious Peregrines series. I hated it just a little bit less than book one...RUIN ME PLEASE. I wrote reviews for both books. I even own book three and can't quite make myself read it. Too much perfection, too much giggling...!! It was beyond annoying, everyone is oh so beautiful, oh so rich, blah, blah, blah. But, that's just me. LOL
MIDNIGHT RAKE is a preorder. I warn you, I'm not sure how well acquainted with the Regency period this author is. I've read reviews for her previous two books and she commits one of my pet peeves (pp #2 on my list) incorrect titles and forms of address. She also made a couple other historical mistakes in her first book. Hopefully she's gotten better since then, but reviews for her second book would suggest otherwise.
MARISSA is a 21 page prequel to a full length novel. I'm only including it because I have a feeling that the full length book may become available for free in the not too distant future. We get an intro to the H and h of the book in this short story.
I have to tell you all that I pretty much hated PROMISE ME. It had a lot of implausible aspects and I couldn't stand the h. She was a total doormat, for everybody including the H. Ugh! I wrote a review so check it out if you think you'll want to get this one.
I'm not sure what BROTHERS OF THE SWORD is about.
FYI, ARCHANGEL has a h pretending to be a man, while acting as captain of her own pirate ship. Her father is none other than Blackbeard.
I'm also not sure what SECOND CHANCE is all about. It's sad when you read a book blurb and don't really get a good clue as to what the story is about. It's a little aggravating. A girl who has an overprotective father, chafes under all the restrictions and runs off to have adventure. Not sure what happens after that, except that she's on a train. I don't even know if there's a romance...no mention of a man, other than her father.
SUN'S PARTING RAY is set during the American Civil War. Young widow falls in love with her husband's married best friend. It's an inspirational novel.
ACROSS THE WILDNERSS is a time travel romance. Modern day h with an 1800 Sioux H.
That's it for today, ladies. I hope you all find something you like. I'm really starting to worry about Noreen now. She must have some kind of family crisis, maybe even be sick herself. I surely hope it's nothing, but I can't help but worry. Anyhow, TTYL.

I have a friend that pulls out this atrocious white one every other year and of course there are the old aluminum trees of the 60's - 70's. I myself love a blue spruce. They are dainty and delicate and the ornaments look so beautiful between the branches. It sounds like you have a rainbow of colors. LOL
I'm glad you liked LK's follow up I seen yesterday it was on sale. I finished Gifts of Love and I loved it. The H reminded me a little of Derek Craven. He is an Irishman who has made his fortune. He still is not as hot as DC for me but I liked him.
I need to check out some more books by Kay Hooper. Did you go through your books and see if you had anything by her? I'm reading the Candy Caper one from yesterday. I kind of like it except the h is a saleswomen who has cropped her hair. I don't know that sort of ruined it for me, silly I know. The H has a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Charlotte and he is adorable with this dog. LOL He gives her a treat and because she is hovering by his feet at his desk and after he says now go to your other basket for papa. I lost it. That's a new one on me. Did I mention the h is in the office with him taking it all in? LMAO Also there are grammatical errors so patience is required.

Red is my favorite color but I still couldn't do a red tree. Do you have one for each kid. LOL One in every room. Pintrest had some beautiful "green" trees that gave me all sorts of ideas. I'm just teasing you about your colorful Christmas I just usually depend on the lights for the color. LOL
LOL Yes there should be quite a few peg legged H. I won't say it's a category I could spend a long time in but certainly visit. In general in my mind I picture a dirty, smelly, toothless H. I'm not sure why that's the image because Johnny Depp made a damn looking pirate. LMBO.

I know ideally that makes him hotter because he knows how to satisfy but it was still a nice treat for me. Realistically you know he'd be done before he had his trousers unfastened. LMBO There are some things I just get caught up in the moment and let slide. The book I just read called Gifts of Love. *******SPOILER********
Kay Hooper's h gave herself to the H in the stables. Her first time and he takes her against a wall. Now this happened before this story started so they are memories that are flashing back to how passionate they were about one another. I just thought that would have been horrible and then they had to correct themselves because a groomsmen came back early. I think if it would have been a recent event I would have counted against the author but the immediate story of the lover ghosts outshined that. The ghosts were trapped in a particular event that happened centuries prior and the message they sent made you want to weep. You definitely wanted the H/h to work things out. I just wish the mistress, trouble maker would have been in it more. You know mw and drama.

Hey EB, yes you and be both are worried about Noreen. Maybe we are worriers, but I can't help it. I know it's a busy time of year, but I feel like at the very least she'd have dropped a quick comment. It's been weeks--since before Thanksgiving!
Anyhow, I've never read anything by Kay Hooper. That story you read sounds good. I'm still reading REASON TO HOPE. It's good, but not gripping; at least not for me. I started it on Thursday and didn't read it at all yesterday. True I had a lot to do, but when a story grabs me it's usually very hard for me to put it down. And I'm always trying to grab a least a few minutes here and there to read it, no matter how busy I am. That said, whenever I am reading it, it certainly does hold my interest. It's a little more "preachy" than other inspirational novels that I've read, by which I mean there are a lot of quoting of bible passages and it seems just about EVERYONE is a Christian or ultimately ends up finding God. I'm not complaining, just mentioning.
I'm not used to the multi-colored trees either, but I've seen them and they certainly are pretty. Kate, do yours come with the decorations too, or is it just the tree that is the particular color and then you decorate it the way you want?
I love the pirate stories where the so-called pirate or privateer turns out to be a lord in disguise as a pirate. I've read a few of those over the years that I've liked. Haven't read any recently, though.
BTW, who is the heck is Derek Craven? I feel like I'm missing out!

IDK I guess there are some out there that do not consider him Hot but he certainly lit my fuse. Whew is it hot in here.
Anyway DC is a LK character found in Then Came You and Dreaming of You. The later story focuses on just him and his lady. You are introduced to him in the first book but you get more of a feel for him in the second. He is a cockney speaking hottie. All man that one. Okay I need to stop. Kate just read the book and I was inspired to rewrite my review. I think I will be pulling out that book and rereading it. It's one of those books that I can go to the parts I like and enjoy. I also liked the Hathaways although the beginning of the series with Winn and Merripen (book 1 & 2) did not interest me. They were a snooze fest for me. I did love Poppy and Harry Rutledge (book 3), Beatrix and Captain Phelan (book 5) and Catherine Marks and Leo (book 4). They can all be read as stand alones and can be found at your library I imagine. I listened to book 5 on audio from my library and loved it.
I know what you mean about the pirate being a lord. It always seems to bring us back to them doesn't it? I guess that would be what I'd prefer too. Like I said Pirates pull up this image of missing teeth and B.O. I don't know any but being at sea brings those images to mind. I have read Jack Knight's story and he owned his own trading company but man was he a hot man at sea.

Well I'll be able to give you my opinion on DK pretty soon, as I own those two LK books. They are the ones my wonderful reading buddy sent to me!
I hear you about the missing teeth, BO, etc. when it comes to pirates. I'm with you 100%. But then again, considering the reality of people and lack of bathing etc. back in historical times, there is a lot that we have to overlook in order to really enjoy our romance books! LOL

It reinforces the image when an author adds those details in their story. It definitely makes the H hotter to me. The starchy cravat and spicy smell is hot IMO.

Hey have you read Tizdale's Frederick's Queen? I'm not a big Tizdale fan...her first book I read (LAIDEN'S DAUGHTER) was just about an OK read for me, but this one sounds really good! And it's only .99 cents. LOL

Ya, me too, Kate. LAIDEN'S DAUGHTER wasn't a terrible read for me--I think I have it 3 1/2 stars--so as long as this one isn't worse than that one, I should be good. There's the hope that it will be better. BTW I discovered that the h isn't really mute, but she doesn't speak because she stutters...I think her father, the abusive bastard, has forbidden her from speaking. Anyhow, stuttering, that's a legitimate disability, isn't it? LOL
Here's hoping we like it. LOL

Hi guys! Thank you for the link RF for the Austen Archangel. I got it as if you doubted. I also tagged you in another giveaway this time for Lorraine Heath. I thought you may have read her before. She wants you to add a favorite Christmas memory. I have been reading this book by Robin Danner she gave me and I have to tell you I am really enjoying it but I have these things that keep pulling me away. :( I had to exercise and feed my kids. They needed laundry and all I want to do is read. My Kindle now went dead and because of the tree and village I can't charge it in my chair while I read. I had to plug it in in the kitchen. One of the drawbacks to a Kindle. Books never went dead. ROTFLMAO! Oh well I haven't talked with the girls yet today. So how is everyone doing. I see you got a Tisdale book. Wee Willy did it for me. I did like the 1st book in the series. I think Kate you did too. I may visit that at a later time but not now. I am still drinking my water. I'll be at 72oz. after this bottle I'm working on. My niece is already at 92oz. We're doing this together and she went to the gym and spent an hour and I went on a walk for an hour down at the park.

Funny you should mention the portable chargers. I just bought a set of three. They had them on HSN for $33.00 ($11 a piece) which is a really good price. It's the Power Now brand. We'll see how well they work. I'm gonna keep one, one to hubby, and another to my sis in law. I actually charged mine up this afternoon and decided that I'd give it a try, just in case I need to return them.
I liked LAIDEN'S DAUGHTER too, but I gave it 3 1/2 stars. I haven't read any of her other books, although I now have the two others in that series, because they are included with two of Le Veque's books in a .99 cent four book box set that I bought a few weeks ago.
Let me know how LOVE, LIES, etc. goes. It's by the same author who wrote MUDER AT LOCKE ABBEY that I read a few weeks ago. I liked that one.
Funny you should mention the portable chargers. I just bought a set of three. They had them on HSN for $33.00 ($11 a piece) which is a really good price. It's the Power Now brand. We'll see how well they work. I'm gonna keep one, one to hubby, and another to my sis in law. Ya EB, that book had Jerry Springer written all over it! I feel your pain regarding the having to put the device to charge. Of course I don't ever have that problem, because as one device dies I go to another. I still have my original Kindle Fire as well as a Kindle E-reader. There's also my kids kindles in a pinch. I can pull rank on them if needs be. ROTFL

Kate~ I thought we were the ones talking about LD. I think we all compared them to the Mackenzie's by Jennifer Ashley because each book got a little worse. You never know when an author can make a come back though. Once my tree comes down I have a plug right by my chair so it's only temporary. I should have plugged it in before I went to bed last night but forgot.

That's exactly what I thought...that if nothing else you'd grab it because JA was in the title. LOL It's apparently about JA falling in love with Michael--as in Michael THE Archangel! Should prove interesting.

Kate~ Yes I remember and the Hathaway series IMO stared out lousy and got better with each book. LOL BTW I found another book of LK's that I have never read and ordered it. You already know this Kate but I thought I'd let RF know. It only comes in book form and was $4 same as the other ne. I figure it's my bday present to me.

Ya, I hear you! It certainly is unconventional. I guess we'll have to wait to see how it turns out. Luckily, you and I do intensive reconnaissance BEFORE we start to read a book--you know, read the ending etc. ROTFL I will sometimes even flip through and read various pages here and there just to make sure, especially if I have any doubts about the story, as I do here. Plus how do you get a HEA with an ANGEL??? And not just any angel, but MICHAEL?

Haha! That's so true! I think it if had just been a regular old angel who was a "fallen" one, who will then remain on earth and there will be a HEA, I'd bee good with it. But, I don't know how she's gonna handle this one, what with it being Michael and all. I'm gonna peruse through, of course, because I am extremely curious. But first, I've got to finish that darn REASON TO HOPE. It's a nice read, but not the least bit gripping. I can easily put it aside, and I haven't read it at all since Saturday. That's the second time that I've gone an entire day without reading it. I just don't feel pressed to get back to it, except to get it over with so I can move on to a more gripping read. Sigh

I was so engrossed with the talent the author had to captivate my attention. It is still good but now I've had a little apprehension because of the modern frame of mind. I don't want to give too much away but it will be in my review. It is going to effect my overall rating. The author wants an honest review and that is what she will get. I flipped to the end and it does have the HEA you want I just wish I could give her a 5 star rating.
I think the author should have made her own world with made up angels why it would still be weird at least it wouldn't cause the conflict. Greek gods are different for me but Michael? Whose next Gabriel?

Yes but wait I am so thrilled because the author took things differently than I originally thought and it's changed everything so excited

It seems to me that your review can only be helpful to her. Let's face it, if she wants to be a successful writer in the historic period, she's going to need to research the era and put a good foot forward so that her books will appeal to a larger fan base. I mean, you know that there will be readers who don't care about the modern feel, and who will love her books. But there are many who will not like it because of that--no matter how talented she is. Talent is hard to come by, but anybody can research. So if she's talented she's got 80% of the hard work done, as far as I am concerned. I'm sure she will take your critique well. It's obvious you want to encourage her.
BTW I am soooooooooo thrilled!!!! Guess what I just got at the library...a hardcover copy, in pristine condition--and I mean PRISTINE--of LK's WALLFLOWER CHRISTMAS for ONE DOLLAR!!!!! I am so happy! Although I don't usually read hardcopy books anymore, I'll definitely make an exception for LK. And this is a hardcover copy, so it should keep nicely. Aren't you excited for me? I also got a copy of Julie Garwood's HONOR'S SPLENDOR. I've been watching the Kindle version and it never goes below $5. I've already read it, and just wanted a keeper copy, so I wasn't willing to pay that for it (I'm so cheap! :-)) Anyhow, I got a paperback copy at the library for .50 cents. I cleaned up! ROTFL

Yeah I had time to think about it and I decided I have to be honest about it. I also am very excited for you on the LK find. Sebastian is such a rogue when it comes to his wife and then Marcus is such a stud when it comes to Lillian. LOL *********SPOILER************ You'll get it after you read when they have their make up sex. LOL

Haha I'm super excited too. And EB it is in excellent condition...honestly, it looks like new!
Yes, honesty is the best. And I know she will appreciate it. She can only become a better writing by listening to constructive feedback from her readers.
I read a blurb the other day; the book sounded so good! Most of the reviews raved about it. But then I read one where the reader said that the incorrect forms of address and incorrect titles almost drove her nuts--you know that's one of my pet peeves! Then there were some historical inaccuracies, which probably wouldn't have bothered me over much, but when compounded with the incorrect titles...well you get my drift.
I thought to myself that it was a real shame because it sounds like the book was really good. But for me, it would be a frustrating read. So why bother? The author clearly has a talent for weaving a good story, but she's too lazy to do the necessary leg work to make her book on par with the big named authors. Writers like LK, Julia Quin, Julie Garwood, and others put in the time effort and energy to make sure they not only put forth a good story, but that it's as authentic as possible. Of course, they also had big name publishers behind them, and even before they made it big they had *A* publisher to help them.
Let's face it, no author is ever going to be able to produce books that everyone likes all the time. There are always going to be those who don't care for it, no matter what the writer does. All he/she can do is try to produce a book that appeals to the widest fan base possible and go from there. Writing a book that's historically inaccurate may appeal to readers who don't care about accuracy, but it wont appeal to readers who do. Whereas, writing a book that historically accurate will appeal to both groups. Of course, no matter what, not everyone is going to like your book, but wouldn't you want as many people as possible to read it?
Why lose a potential reader because you didn't take the extra five minutes to Google the proper forms of address. If your hero is the younger son of an Earl, rather than incorrect address him as LORD Hero, could you Google and find out that only the eldest sons of Earls are addressed as Lords, while younger sons are Honorable Misters? It drives me nuts! I don't know why, it just does. Of course it doesn't help that it's such an easy issue to research. It just makes me think the author is lazy.

Candy Caper sounded like a game for FB but it looks like it could be a fun seasonal read. Although it doesn't have to be Christmas to enjoy it. I'm thinking of creating a new category on my Kindle called seasonal.
