Where was Ellen?

Just finished the book and all the characters, save poor Martha who never really had a personality, were given proper endings except Ellen.

The book started with her curse and a hanging and ended with a hanging. I would have liked to see her make one more appearance as she was a formidable character.

Every scene in which she was depicted, sizzled.

I was thinking about this the other day, as I just finished a re-read of this book. For all the characters except her to have some sort of closure feels wrong.

I didn't even like Ellen, but I still think she should have been around at the end.
