One Nomination per person (2 if you really can't decide).

The book you nominate has to be "1st in a series"

Nominations will be open until the 10th of Oct.

*** Can you host the discussion if your nomination is chosen? ***

To be a discussion Host you are agreeing to:
- read the book you nominated at the beginning of the month, if you haven't already read it.
- start the discussion in both the spoiler and spoiler-free threads by posting your thoughts and a few simple questions for readers to think/talk about
- inform the group if you're unable to host the discussion or will only be reading the book later in the month.

You may also offer to be the Host for someone else's nomination.

Authors and publishers may NOT nominate their own books for monthly discussions. Similarly, no one is permitted to rig the polls by inviting others or creating sockpuppets to join the group and vote for a book/author. Such votes will be disregarded and the book/author in question may be removed from the poll entirely.

Please tell us why you are nominating a certain book/author or why you want to read the book/author.

The Lies Dragons Tell (The Dragons of Kudare Book 1) by India Drummond - As you guys know I'm a big fan of India Drummond, and this new book co-written with K.C. May sounds awesome! And it has a dragonborn alchemist in it! Which sounds awesome!

Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1) by Richelle Mead - Richelle Mead is also one of my favorite authors. I have been meaning to read this book for ages. Maybe this will give me the push to get to it!

Marius Plessis (shanothaine) I'm going to jump right in and nominate Betrayal's Shadow by Dave-Brendon de Burgh.

It's the first book in his series, The Mahaelian Chronicle. Here are some strong arguments for the book:
1. Dave is South African, traditionally published, and writes fantasy. He's pretty much the only locally published author who does that.
2. The book is exciting, action-packed and emotive.
3. Dave is a bit of a hot topic at the moment; he recently spoke at the Open Book Festival on a panel with Raymond E. Feist (Magician) and Mike Carey (The Girl With All the Gifts), he's doing interviews in newspapers left right and centre, and he's such a big supporter of the local publishing scene.
4. All things said and done, the book is amazing.

Cheers!

Lauren Smith He's definitely not the only traditionally published local author writing fantasy (unless perhaps you're talking specifically about epic fantasy), but otherwise good one! I've been meaning to read his book for a while, so it's got my vote :)

Marius Plessis (shanothaine) You're right - should probably clarify that a bit. I'm talking about old school, Tolkienesque epic/high fantasy. What a champ! :)

Lauren Smith Admittedly that's not really my thing (my interest in old school epic fantasy started and ended with Tolkien) but because he's local I'm willing to give it a shot :)

Really enjoy her books, she gives a good insight into the court intrigues of the Tudor era.

If it doesn't win we can do a buddy read. I'm doing an online course on Hadrian's Wall at the moment so all things Roman are good.

I have read all 4 books and they were very good. I hope you enjoy it.
