colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I've read this one a couple of times, so I probably won't join in this month - but it's a good series, so I hope those who do read it enjoy it. :>

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Oh wow. Tim Curry narrates the audiobooks.

Ooooooh, so tempting...

Nan (felicityk) | 245 comments I love the audiobooks with Tim Curry. Just listened to all three a month ago.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I love what Curry did with the Series of Unfortunate Events.

Sinistmer | 212 comments I read this book a long time ago, and, in light of the fact that there is a fourth book coming out, I would really like to try to read this with you guys!

message 9: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Decided to start this instead of The Company. Going to do an audio / ebook combo. That way I can listen in the car and get through it faster. So many books, so little time!

message 10: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments So I tried the audio by Tim Curry.. Ended up returning it. He's just not my thing, too flourishy.

As for the book.. I don't know so far. I find that my attention often wavers. It's not really pulling me in consistently, my mind wanders away from it easily. Every now and then I get drawn in, and when I do I enjoy it quite a bit.. It's just not consistent. Maybe I'm just not in the right mood for it right now, or maybe it's just not my thing.. I don't know. I want to love it, but at 40% it's hovering around 3 stars or less. Definitely not DNF worthy though, so that's something.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Hmmm...flourishly was perfect for the Series of Unfortunate Events.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) That's what I don't like about Jim Dale's reading style. But I feel like I'd be ok with Tim Curry doing it. (*hypocrite*) LOL

message 13: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I'm just not a usually a fan of flourishy in general. I like a more neutral reading.. Like James Marsters with Dresden. For the most part, it just a good plain reading and I like it a lot. But I always roll my eyes when he reads Harry's spells. Too much flourish :P

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Totally with you there, Dawn. That's why I prefer Stephen Fry's reading of HP over Jim Dale's. Well, that and the fact that I just can't stand Jim Dale reading ANYTHING, apparently.

message 15: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Finished! 3.5 stars rounded to 4. Overall it was a good, fun story... I just still stand by my earlier statement about it being hard to get into for me. I feel like this should have been more engrossing, and it just wasn't. I'd still like to read more books in the series though, because by the end it had become slightly less difficult to get lost in it. But just slightly.. I'd hope the books that follow would be better for me.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Glad you liked it alright, Dawn. I'm still hoping to get to it so I can finish the series.
