Thanks!!
That really stinks about your library system. Hopefully the vote passes!

@Kazen: I'll have to check into that, but I'm not even sure we have a state-wide library system. Some cities not too far from me use overdrive, but I don't know if they will give me a card since I don't live there. I guess I could try emailing and see what they say.
I guess I'll be doing some research into libraries during work breaks today. :)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments I've chosen my books for the toppler.

I'm going to read The Penelopiad for Task 35 - Short Line It has 177 pages.

And the other book I'll be reading is Anne of Avonlea for Task 39 - Barossa (Australia) Set in Canada.

We have rolled for 25 tasks to read. All assigned. So unless we get a new team member in the next days, we are all set to start the toppler.

Our points so far: 0

The spreadsheet has been updated.

Is it time yet????

Kirila | 660 comments 3 more days :)
I have prepared by books and I am ready to go! But I will be away this weekend, visiting a friend, so I won't be able to join the discussion in the beginning. But I have a 4 hour train ride one way, so I will use it well!

message 205: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Excited!! I may or may not be able to join discussions at the start depending on how my friend's birthday celebrations work out but I will be here!! :-)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Well, i am still hitting a wall with my intended audiobook. Still pestering tech support. I figured it was time to move on to plan B. I downloaded Caleb's Crossing for my first task. (The before electricity one)

Ooo. I liked that one. Enjoy!

When does this toppler begin, exactly? It seems as if we've been talking about it forever!

message 211: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I think I get about the best start time in the Canadian Pacific Daylight Time. 9am on a Saturday, perfect timing to make tea, get a little breakfast and start a book!

message 212: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments 5pm for those in GMT time which isn't half bad either, good excuse to settle in for the night with blanket and book :-)

message 213: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments And you'll end up with time on the second Saturday to read, which is helpful.

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Does anyone know if we have to read our books in the sequence they were rolled? I am reading two in audio form (2nd and 3rd rolls) and one in hard copy (1st roll). Could finish one of the audio books before I finish the hard copy. Just want to be sure we don't slip up on a technicality.

Will be starting an audio and hard copy in about an hour. Ready to go!!!

message 221: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Esther, you've got me reading Pétronille for my 4th book. I believe this must belong to someone else, because I've not picked my 4th book yet.

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Did not know you could read French, Debra.

I probably will get another roll at some points also. Remember we are a team. If you cannot find anything, someone may be willing to trade.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments We are certainly a quiet group. Everyone must be reading so much, they don't want to take a break and check in. I know that happened to me, yesterday.

I know. kirila said she was offline for the weekend but we have not heard from a few members. I hope they are buzy reading. :)

I am buzy studying unfortunately. I allow myself a chapter as a break so i am still making progress. I need to rake leaves in my yard today so i should get a few hours of audiobook today.

TEAM members, where are you??????

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Hi guys - am 3/4 of way through my audio book - The Naked Sun by Isaac Asimov. I had forgotten how good his writing is. Am really enjoying this one. Even though it was written in the 1950s, it is timeless.

Am going to grandson's soccer tournament - an hour away so will have a couple of hours listening time - to & from. Should be enough to finish today.

Will then start my paper book. Happy reading all!

message 233: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Good to hear from you Helen. Hope you have a beautiful day for the tournament. It is lovely here in SE Michigan.

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Debra - I am in northern OH near Sandusky. Not too far from you! My main residence is in Columbus but I have a get-away condo on the lake. Great place to read.

It's a little cool, in 40s but should get warmer. The team has been playing all weekend, we are heading to the finals in a bit.

Will let you all know status when I get back.

message 235: by Helen (new)

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Tee - hee - that is both reading and game status. Cheerio!

I shall be starting tonight with: Anne of Avonlea for Task 39

message 238: by Annette (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Hi everybody! I have internet again and I am checking in :). I am half way through my first book. And I have an hour left on the train, so I should make more progress.

Awesome that we already have two books read!

I might also throw again but I have to see how reading during the week goes.

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Am back from grandson's soccer tournament.

GOOD NEWS: They won. Extra good - grandson is player and son-in-law is coach.
BAD NEWS: Was stuck in traffic on turnpike for over an hour due to an accident.
GOOD NEWS: Gave me time to finish audiobook. Reported in our reporting thread. Yeah - listening to audiobook was better than Browns game which hubby kept reporting to me.

On to hard copy book A Plain Disappearance for task 14.

message 243: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Yeaaaa Toppler!

Some weekend errands (boooo real life) kept me from reading as much as I wanted, but I'm determined to finish all my studying and cleaning by noon today so I can read (and knit!) all afternoon. Nothing like a good book for motivation!

I want to get my non-fiction out of the way first so I've been reading Atomic Accidents: A History of Nuclear Meltdowns and Disasters. Reading about early radioactive discoveries, when the dangers were not fully realized, is downright scary. Yeah, let's drink this radium-laced "health" water, it works great! ...until our jaws disintegrate. ~shudder~

It's neat! I was here in Japan when Fukushima happened so if I can read it I bet most others can, too. And who can resist a chapter title like "In Nuclear Research, Even the Goof-Ups are Fascinating"? Not I! ;)

I have started my book, The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

message 249: by Debra (last edited Oct 20, 2014 07:45AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments After entering the ISBN, I finally found on GR the edition of Alice in Wonderland I'm reading, which also has Through the Looking-Glass. The other edition I got from the library was geared towards children and was very large print. I just didn't feel like reading that version, plus it felt like cheating.

So, I'm reading this edition: Alice in Wonderland. I should be done with it this morning.
