Ok with me. I have 1636: The Kremlin Games in my TBR.

Spreadsheet will come later this week. I finish my work insane rush last night. Now i have to catch up with my chinese class for tomorrow. So i will be back to human state Thursday.

I really like 2nd to none

message 52: by Kazen (new)

Kazen No complaints here... if someone is having trouble with their task I'm open to swapping, too. ^^

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Ok. One thing to consider, we may have new members before the toppler starts. So we may have to do some shuffling.

I just read Jmon message about the next rolls. So we should not be greedy. I usually have a book and a audiobook going at the same time so i will be rolling another number this week. Anyone else is sure to get a 2nd book in? So we have a small pool to chose from?

I will get the spreadsheet organised first. I know how i want to do it, just got to take the time. (And keep reminding myself that the toppler does not start for 2 weeks so calm down Esther). :)

I love knowing I'm not the only one with multiple books. I've got the real book, the audio book, the ebook, the research book, the poetry book, ...

message 55: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Would The Woman in White work for a horror book? Can I use to October book for the toppler?

I will definitely commit to reading two books for the toppler... one audio and one text.

As far as team names, I like 2nd to None and T.W.O: Tricky Witchy Octoplers.

message 56: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I see 3 votes (including mine) for the name of 2nd to None. Anyone else? We need to decide on a name pretty soon.

message 57: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'll read at least 2 books.

message 58: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I like 2nd to None. Is only the person who created the thread allowed to modify its title? In that case, Esther, could you change it? :)

message 59: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I will also read at least 2 books. But I am still not clear on which number we add to when we throw again. So I am going to wait for jmom to reply to all the questions she triggered with the latest update :)

Esther, I also have to keep reminding myself that the toppler is 2 weeks away :) I have this rush to want to know everything now :D

But I do need to plan in advance so that I can go get the books from the library.

And I am happy with 35 Thing Two, so thank you. In that case I may be able to add another book.

I think we add to the first number we rolled. At least that is how my sister, Almeta, explained it to me.

I understand the need to plan in advance, too, Kirila. We need figure out what books to read and how to get our hands on them! lol

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments here is the sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

It has 2 tabs. One is our roll, the other the task pool.

I tried to make it clear which task was waiting for a reader and which are done.

Any comments?

As Thing Two did a list according to previous posts, I assumed everyone is comfortable with their task. If not, I will change it. :)

message 67: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments We have 2 new teammates, Annette and Sam. I expect we will hear from them soon. Not sure what that will do to our task assignments.

message 68: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I did my second roll and got a 3. This took me to 14 (Virginia Avenue.

All the others that are sure to read a second book, go ahead and draw so we will have a few choice.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Yay, we have a team name!

Welcome Annette & Sam!

I'm good with reading a horror book, but if anyone would rather have that genre, I'll be happy to swap. Just let me know. :)

message 71: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Welcome Annette and Sam! :) Go pick your numbers so we can move around some topics and have our first rounds. Then you can start gophering for books :))

Esther, thanks for doing the spread sheet!

message 72: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I threw again and got 5. I had 15 before, which makes the next one 20 - Free Parking! A book of your choice :)

That's lucky. And our team needs some luck!

Whoever plans to read 2 books can throw their second number and then we can decide who reads what again.

message 73: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments My first roll was a 12, my second roll is 23 which takes me to space #35 Short Line – Read a book between 150 and 200 pages long

message 74: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Ooooh short book. I just got notice that i got the latest Nothomb (168 pages) from the library. I usually get them done in a couple of hours.

So i could take that one and rise my number of books to 3.

Of not, no biggie..

message 75: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Welcome Annette and Sam!

Let us know what you rolled!

message 76: by Debra (last edited Sep 30, 2014 08:57PM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I rolled again and got a 12. My previous roll was 31. 31+12=43. 43-39=4.

4 = Walker Horde (Walking Dead) – Read a horror book. One that scares the crap out of you (or at least really creeps you out). Vampires, werewolves and witches not included here. This is for fictional horrors, not true life ones.

This is great, because I love to read horror. I'll be reading The Neighbors for my 2nd book. I read one of this author's other books and it really creeped me out, so I hope this one will, also. That was Seed.

Since my 2 books so far are rather short, I just might be able to reading 3 books! Yay!

Hi Annette! The first thing to do is to go to random.org, enter 1 and 39 as the limit numbers and generate yourself a number. Then post it here.

Debra, I am sorry to ruin it for you, I know you really wanted to read a horror book (maybe you can swap in the first round), but since we are counting the Go, you have to subtract 40, not 39. That leaves you at 3.

3 = Fruitcake (Christmas-opoly) – Read a book with a significant character who is “As nutty as a fruitcake”. This does not have to be a medical diagnosis. Some inventors were considered nuts before their inventions proved to work. Or someone’s quirks may seem nutty to others. And some political and religious figures have ambitions that clearly indicate they aren’t rational.

message 80: by Kazen (new)

Kazen I know I'll be doing a second book so I did a second roll: 37. I was on space 14, 14+37=51, 51-40=11.

11 = St. Charles Place – Saints preserve us! Pick a Saint from the following list and read a book about one of their causes.

I'll be throwing this one into the pool for whomever may want it. :)

message 81: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments drat... I was looking into books and found the perfect ones from the library... then realised that books can be borrowed for 21 days.. which takes me mid-toppler. Need to wait and hope nobody grab them... argh...

Debra, I see you've mentioned a couple of times wanting to read a horror book. Since your second roll put you on 3 instead of 4, if you want to swap spaces for the first roll, I'll be glad to trade with you. I was thinking of reading The Woman in White but I don't think I can listen to that entire audiobook in one week. I do have a book assigned my Madame Tutti Fruiti that will fit in the "other modes of travel" category perfectly though.

Let me know if you want to do this. I'm good either way. :)

message 83: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Kimey. Just to make sure everyone is clear on the swapping, your horror task if for the first roll. Debra's task is 15 for the 1st roll.

My understanding is that the 1st roll is pretty strict and we cannot swap between rolls for it (but that's allowed for the next rolls)

message 84: by Helen (new)

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Just rolled a 5 for my second book - so 4 + 5 = 9

9 = Talosians (Star Trek Limited Edition) – The classic original series led to movies and spinoffs, and this episode won a Hugo award. Read a classic, or a book you believe should be a classic (and justify why).

I have an audio book on my IPOD which meets this criteria - Isaac Asimov Robot series. It is just waiting in the queue - can wait until challenge starts.

However, I am flexible so if someone needs this category that's okay too.

This is what I'm going through right now! I'm also placing holds on ebooks, trying to time them so they come pre-Toppler but not but too pre-Toppler. What we go through for points! :D

I don't think I made myself clear.

I rolled a 12 on the first roll and Debra rolled a 31. I am assigned to read #4 (horror) and Debra is assigned to read #15 (modes of transport). I have noticed that Debra was excited to be reading a horror book for her second roll (and also mentioned wanting to read a horror book earlier in this thread), but she actually ended up on the space for the Fruitcake book because she forgot to count "GO" when figuring out her space.

The point I was trying to make above is that if she wants to swap our first roll assignments so she can still read a horror book during the toppler, I will be glad to trade with her. I wasn't meaning to swap a roll 1 book for a roll 2 book.

Does that make more sense or is it still as clear as mud? :)

message 91: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments ***If a member has put a task in the pool, they need to keep an eye out to make sure their task is taken by someone else. If the same task is in there more than once, well, the contributing members can fight it out, or one can graciously let it have been the other member's task.

The best way to ensure there aren't any tasks left is to do your own task, or make a direct swap with another member. If you keep throwing tasks into the pool, the more likely there will be general confusion and penalties at the end. This is why it's better to not choose all your numbers now (I understand how that can be hard), or be willing to do your own task without using the pool, or to make a direct swap. Remember, this is a team event and you need to work together!

message 92: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments ok. So far.

First roll:
All first roll assigned but 2. Sam's is drawn but not Annette. Sam, you can wait for Annette or trade with one of the other members for their assigned task. (you cannot do your own for the 1st roll)

2nd roll:
Helen selected her task. There is 5 of us to decide on tasks.
I do not mind doing mine but I got my eye on KimeyDiann's

Ok... back to work. I,ll be back tonight.

I guess we need to make our shelves visible or add each other as friends on goodreads. But this task has to be taken by somebody else, not by Sam.

We are still waiting for Anette to throw :)

message 94: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I can read 35 or 20 for my second task. Maybe even something for 11 or 3, but they really confuse me. If you have read something short that fits, let me know.

Each player can contribute ONE task to the pool without taking one out at that time, and still generate another number. BUT, they will have to make up that task at some point, whether it's by taking a different task or their old one out of the pool. Hopefully that will keep the pool from clogging.
