Pretty much all just yes.

This was basically how I saw her role:
Sorcha was put into the story because Dorian needed some form of escape from his feelings of Celaena/Aelin and also from all of the (intense) drama that came with his abilities and his father's plans. Sorcha's was Dorian's gate to freedom from all of the painful memories that had been made in the previous books. Once Celaena/Aelin left for Wendlyn, Dorian was trying so hard to forget his feelings for her but wasn't really able to until he met Sorcha.
Sorcha also plays a meager role in Dorians life because she helps him attempt to control his abilities. If she hadn't been present for this, Dorian wouldn't have had someone to help guide him, he wouldn't have the "escape" that he needed which was Sorcha herself.
The biggest reason why I liked Sorcha's character being in Dorian's life was her death (I know, that sounds terrible): when Dorian was begging for the king to spare Sorcha's life, it shows that he is the complete antithesis of the King and that his humanity is still in tact. But when the king refuses to grant his request and kills Sorcha, it shows how Dorian has, yet again, lost something he cared so much about-just like when Celaena/Aelin left. As Sorcha dies, We see that Dorian has basically lost what he has grown to care for so much, and he can never have that escape from reality again.
This I believe is why Sorcha's contribution to the story is well thought out and portrayed greatly because it helps us readers to have that soft spot for Dorian, to feel sympathetic towards him. This also is, in my opinion, a great demonstration of Dorian's character overall.
These are just my personal thoughts.

Honestly I think the only reason I disliked her was because I was stuck on shipping Doraelin but I've since jumped ships again and I'm hoping I'm not so stupidly harsh about it when I reread Heir of Fire. I really like what you've pointed out in this, she was in Dorian's life for a reason, but I also feel like her death sort of had to still happen because, while I'm completely over Doraelin, I still can't see him and Sorscha together in the end.

..."shocking excuse for a heroine"? Not to be rude, of course, but how so?

Same:)

I think they added Sorscha just because they needed Dorian to break and for him to have a pretty bad past with woman so that other characters cold bond over that i guess but other than that, Sorscha herself didn't have any major character change. I didn't like her because she just had a meaningless point of view and we all kind of knew she wasn't gonna survive. She was important for the story and Dorian but what she saw was meaningless.

Yea, thats true.

I feel much the same way about Nesryn in QoS, actually. I haven't read beyond QoS, so maybe she gets more character later on, but she's another character who seems added in just to be a love interest (in this case, so that Chaol has a consolation prize).

Also, EoS SPOILERS!!
I totally did not see rowaelin coming.

The other characters in t..."
I felt the same way honestly, I felt that she was a last-minute addition to help Dorian's character developed and there was no actual thought put into sorsha character herself and so when she died it was irrelevant to me and this made me also not like how much more she was mentioned in the other books because she didn't actually add anything.

She was a good addition to the story but I think the whole Sorscha x Dorian thing was overrated and more than a little over the top.
