VED036 I recently read the part 2 of this book from the kindle of a family member. The same person did narrate the story outline of part 1 to me.

I am from South Asia.

Having done a lot of reading in English Classics which included the times up to the WW2, and also having done a lot of reading on original English colonial writings, the reading experience of this book came as a terrific shock.

If the characters of this book do indeed represent the mental stature and standards of current-day England, I can only say that the nation has declined terrifically in mental stamina and stature.

The story is engaging due to a clever use of a spellbinding feel of unexpected twists and turns in the offing. Moreover, the writing is done in more or less simple English, with short sentence.

However the character quality is so mediocre, that it was with much difficulty that they could be connected to the English novel characters of yore. Themes that were avoided in old English writings are there in their full narration in this novel. Can’t mention more about this. It stinks.

In fact, if the story, place names and the characters had been relocated to South Asia, the story would have been a perfect.

An in-erasable feel came upon me that the story was the handiwork of some South-Asian, or even a cEuropean writer. However, since it a book by a native-Englishman maybe England has changed so much, in recent decades.
