They do work well together. They found it wasn't so easy to find Freddie in a large city, but they did eventually. They also didn't turn Freddie over to Will after they saw Freddie's reaction that his "brother" was looking for him. After Freddie's death, they decided to find out who killed him. There are probably a lot of investigators who would have walked away from that plan since they weren't going to get paid.
I thought they worked well together, too, working different angles simultaneously and staying in communication with each other. And, they used Sarah appropriately and knew when she was needed. I thought they did a great job, even though they were slow with recognizing Estelle was a victim of incest.
