rules for combining abridged editions?

It's not possible to make every possibility explicit in the Manual. It is implied by what is listed here (and on every author's combine page): https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

Yes.

Yes.

Of course I read these points repeatedly, as I mentioned in my first message, I double checked the manual. The only way I could from that assume anything about abridged versions is by defining it only as a "different publication of the same book", which is fine, but given that it is a shortened version and not the full original text, it doesn't seem so absurd to be in doubt about this.
Asking for clarification is always fine. But that doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be added to the Manual.
I've been dealing with combine requests and came across a request to combine an abridged edition with an unabridged edition. I thought I shouldn't, but a fellow librarian said abridged editions are combined with the original text in Goodreads and only adaptations shouldn't be. I double checked the manual and couldn't find any mention of how to handle abridged editions. Did I oversee it? Could this clarification be added to the manual?
And another question is, where should it say, in the Book edit page, if an edition is abridged? In the 'Edition' field?
Thanks!
