Elizabeth and/or sister[s] were not raised as a Bennet. Whether through force, neglect, or nefarious reasons, someone else raised our dear girl[s].

Elizabeth is raised elsewhere in the interesting duology Drawing Mr. Darcy: Sketching His Character and Drawing Mr. Darcy: A Faithful Portrait.
Elizabeth's different upbringing certainly takes her in a different direction! I think you'd like them--they're thoughtful and well-crafted, even if they have a few of the verbal tics that bug me in Austenesque fiction.
Mr. Bennet's Daughter: An Elizabeth and Darcy Story Elizabeth is raised as a Bennet, but Mrs. Bennet flees with her lover and Jane when Elizabeth is only two months old (so Mrs. Bennet leaves her with Mr. Bennet, because she is afraid she can't feed her) and, after a divorce, she marries her lover, Mr. Yates, and gives birth to Mary, Kitty and Lydia with him, but only Lydia survives.
That's interesting, Georgiana. Did Jane retain the Bennet name or did Mrs. Bennet-Yates change it? That means Lydia was a Yates.

And when she comes back to Longbourn, Jane - who is 21 - calls the late Mr. Yates Papa Yates and Mr. Bennet Papa Bennet.
