R-Cee*Jay I have hit a slump...... any ideas for books that grab you from the get-go?

Paul Perry (pezski) | 233 comments Hey there

I hate it when that happens. I think it depends on the type of slump; if it's just that you're having trouble clicking with you need something really gripping. I'd recommend

The Straw Men by Michael Marshall, which is the best serial killer thriller I've ever read ( and, yes, i do include The Silence of the Lambs in that )

John Connolly's Charlie Parker books starting with Every Dead Thing. These are just superb. They do begin to get supernatural from the second one, but I see you read some supernatural fiction too.

The other sort of slump i suffer from is to do with mental health. a couple of times in the past my depression has left me unable to focus, and I've got through these by reading short stories and graphic novels. I know some other people who this has helped, when attention has been an issue for various reasons.

I hope that this helps! I'm sure you'll find your groove soon :)

Patty | 4455 comments I’ve often looked to the past for books that are under the radar. You might enjoy reading the books some movies have been based on, especially the oldies. I’ve done several, and can recommend a few if this interests you.

Thank you so much, I will definitely have a look at these books. Thank you for the advice, I will keep it in mind - everyday situations affect how and what I read for sure.

Aditya | 2017 comments Everytime I get tired of reading which happens when back to back books are bad or average, I usually shift to a different medium. Watch a lot of movies or listen to whole albums. That fixes it, when I get tired of those it's back to books again.

As far as recommendation join this month's group read of Red Harvest, it was my pick and I can assure you it gets going from the very first page.
