What an awful situation. Christmas rush will take on a whole new meaning when the shops open up again.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments The question that lets the drs and nurses know I'm not trying to score drugs is what do you do. I'm a dairy farmer. Oh that explains it you people are always too proud to admit you're hurt. One nurse said you know why you can't move becausr you're a stupid farmer and you guys don't rest your body. Let me guess you shoukdn't be working for at least 3 weeks but you're going home and going right to the barn aren't you. Yup. Stupid stubborn people ypu farmers I don't know what you want from us.

I'm glad you took him off to ER, Rusalka. If he does have appendicitis, a delay could mean a ruptured appendix, and that's nasty.

ROFL! That's hilarious.

Sorry about the heifer kicking you in the nose. Someday I may tell you about the nose dive I took into a dried cow patty. Thank God it was dry!

message 1113: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments oh Travis that's hilarious. Sandra, so far nurses have been great. Lexx's dad was a nurse for a bit so we always treat them well.

4am in to emergency. Looks like everyone was right at this point. Bloods away for testing so we'll find out in an hour

message 1118: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I had to laugh at your accidents Travis! sounds painful though. Agriculture is the most dangerous profession I've heard. I remember going to an agricultural show when I was a kid which had a tent displaying photos of all the tractor accidents that had occurred - horrific! You can do some serious damage with farm equipment (and heifers it would seem too).

I'm glad Lexx has been seen and has a bed. Let's hope things will move along a bit quicker now. His in the right place now though. Sending you both hugs.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments How's Lexx, Rusalka?

message 1121: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments Oh no. Hope your day is getting better Janice!

I went home at 5:30am to get gone sleep. I was going to head in around 10 as I thought there was no way they would do anything before then. He called just before and said they were taking him in to surgery! Out in just over an hour, recovery for 90mins, and by the time I got to the ward when he had just been moved into the nurses already all knew him and thought he was a cheeky bugger.

Keyhole, all removed in tact, no complications. The surgeon told him beforehand that he could go home tonight. The nurses think in the morning. There may be a fight later...

Now just to see if he can fly on Monday... surgeon indicated it should be okay apparently but Lexx was on morphine then apparently :P

message 1122: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Glad to hear everything went without complications. Good luck with the recovery. It seems it will fast and smooth!

message 1123: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Wow, I just finished catching up on this whole thread. I don't get a chance to read for one whole day and Lexx had surgery, Peggy is sequestered in her appartment until Saturday, and Travis got kicked in the face by a cow and smashed his toes up. Did I get it all?

I am babysitting for Amy. She went to see Cary Elwes at a book signing tonight for his book, " As You Wish". She called and said the place was packed and he talked for an hour and he was funny. She was in line for hours but got her book signed. She said she had a great time and all the people there were very friendly and nice. She got some good video!

Rusalka - I hope Lexx is feeling better now.
Peggy - reading opportunity?
Sarah - good journeying!
Tasha - is it over?
Travis - you are amazing.

I'm going home and going to bed now. Amy just got home.

message 1124: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's good to hear that things went smoothly with the surgery. A good sign if he's got a rep with the nurses/doctors already :-) Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery so that you can catch your flight.

This is most likely going to be my last post for the next two weeks. If I can get some internet coverage on my phone along the way I might check in but cannot guarantee that. Wishing everyone a happy Christmas and a happy New Year. See you on the other side...

Sarah, have a great trip! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you! :)

message 1128: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments Flying is all good. We're going to Hobart for Christmas, Lexx's Dad lives just outside it. It's kat's home town. Also the surgeon's it turns out, so he actively encouraged the trip (barring any complications in the next couple of days).

He did Peggy. But he can now never have it again.

He also drunk dialled (well, dope dialled) my Mum's place instead of my mobile to let me know he was in a ward when I was outside it. Apparently he made absolutely no sense to my stepdad whatsoever and just hung up.

Good luck Sarah! Have a wonderful trip and may it be literally smooth sailing! Have a lovely Chrissy and New Years.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Hopefully yoi can get some wind at your back to push that boat speed up a little.

Cherie you're too kind I'm sure you would have enjoyed the book signing as well, but can't have kids running around wild.

message 1133: by Tasha (last edited Dec 18, 2014 03:37AM) (new)

Tasha Glad to hear all went well, Rusalka! Lexx sounds like a funny guy. :)

Sarah, have fun!! Definitely looking forward to hearing how it all goes. Enjoy your first holidays on such a cool adventure.

Cherie, yes, it's all over here. The gunman was actually found dead (self-inflicted) just outside his hometown. My husband suspected all along that he never came down near our way and it seems he may have been right! I did have a strange guy come up to my door last night though asking if we had called for a ride...um, no. He did not look like someone dressed as a ride, he looked weird and messy. Thankfully I have glass at my door so I don't have to open it and 2 dogs barking at him. He may have been legit but he sure didn't look it.

message 1134: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Eek, Tasha! Thank goodness you have the glass door and two barking dogs!
Glad to hear all went well, Rusalka!
Happy boat day, Sarah!!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments If I remember they are 2 German Shepards. I wouldn't mess with them either. Have you read the Robert Crais book with the german shepard that is partly from dogs perspective? Title?

Great rec! I just put it on hold at the library. thanks! My shepherd was an explosives dog so I'm definitely excited to read this one.

It's 1 shep although I would love more! My second is a medium sized mix. Loves to bark but I'm not sure he would come to our rescue if needed. ;)

Have you read the series Dog on It?

I have only read the first one. I liked it. It was pretty simple reading but a cute story nonetheless :) I will probably read more in the series next year:)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments How are you, Janice? Is your day getting better?

What you guys will do this Christmas? Sarah and Rusalka have great plans. We plan to stay here, doing nothing really special. But that's good since all of us need a rest, and hopefully lots of reading. It would be great to have some snow (almost nothing aby this point) to go slide with the kids to some park nearby. We have some great places for sliding all around our home.

Tasha We have a special xmas eve party (my aunt's or sister's house) were everyone dresses up nice and we have wonderful food and drinks. The kids do polyanna and the adults do a recycled gift exchange. It can get pretty funny with some weird recycled gifts.

My kids are up literally in the middle of the night to see what Santa brought so we are usually up anywhere from 1am on. Needless to say, I am wiped by the time we are done so we usually just stay home with the kids Christmas day. The day after Christmas we host my mom and my sister (her family) here so a very casual get together.

We are hoping for a White Christmas too!

message 1146: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Oh my! Tell your kids you checked in Santa's webpage and he will be in your zip code area only after 4 or 5!

message 1147: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments lol, that sounds like a smart idea Sandra!

We don't have special plans. Dinner and maybe some boardgames at my parents place with also my sister and her boyfriend on the 25th, and on the 26th (which we call Second Christmas Day here in the Netherlands) the same but at my boyfriend's parents. And crochet and reading during the day, before going to the family.

message 1148: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm not sure what we are doing for Christmas this year. We aren't able to fly back to Washington state to spend it with family, so it will be just my hubby, dog and me :) maybe we will go look at all the Christmas lights on Christmas Eve :) there is not supposed to be any snow here.
I'm looking forward to a nice quiet holiday :)

Tasha Sandra wrote: "Oh my! Tell your kids you checked in Santa's webpage and he will be in your zip code area only after 4 or 5!"

Lol! We've tried various pleas and things but nothing has worked. It's become a tradition now. The first few years I was such a grump but I've gotten used to it now. It won't last much longer so it's ok. My son is almost 13 and he now would rather sleep until morning, it's my 8yo daughter who is still highly excited.

Peggy, your plans sound nice. :)

message 1150: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Goodness! I wake up in the morning and see I'm late to the party.

Yesterday is over with, and today is a new day. Supper with the wine group tonight!

Sarah - have a great Christmas on your new boat.
Rusalka - glad that Lexx is recovering. I recall trying to dial my parents on my blackberry curve after my surgery a few years back and it was an arduous task.
Cherie - lucky Amy that she got to meet Cary!

I have the audiobook Dog On It and am looking forward to it.

I'm headed to my parents on Dec 24. My sister and brother will be there. It's going to be a tough one. We'll be having a family meeting to discuss some critical things. My mom who is 88 is very frail and weakening. My dad is 85 is having some worrisome health issues and is concerned about how long he can cope carrying for mom.
