Sarah | 18550 comments He's a keeper Stephanie! That's such a lovely gift.

Is NHL hockey on grass/court or on ice? I played hockey at school and hated it. But when we had the Olympics here in London, I watched all the hockey matches - I really got in to watching. Shame it's not on TV here like the football is.

Stephanie Ice hockey definitely :) I worked for a junior hockey team from '99 to 2004 as a section leader which is basically an usher :) it was so much fun getting to watch games and get paid to as well! Plus I got to "control" the same section every season so I got to know a lot of the regulars. Two of them ended up being my parents neighbor :-) small world for sure!

message 955: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oh no, Tasha, the Flyers? ;-) my guy bff loves the flyers and we always have good smack talking when the Devils and Flyers play each other during the season (guess now I will be cheering for the Blues against them as well).

message 956: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I don't even know how the flyers do these days as far as winning. Hopefully not too bad though. ;)

message 957: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Hey everyone! Well, Nanowrimo was a bit of a bust for me. I lost steam mid-month due to life getting in the way. But I got a good start and if life ever lets go for a minute I will get back to it. I got a sort of promotion at work, which means more time in the office and therefore more time commuting. I think the balance is to the good, but time will tell.

Sarah, you must be so excited - I'm excited for you! What a great adventure.

Stephanie, I am not a hockey fan but can definitely relate to your excitement. I have tickets to see my favorite band in concert in a little over a week and there is not enough *squeeee* to describe it.

Y'all can banish me now if you like... but I confess it: I am a black Friday shopper. (Though I could not go so far as to fight over a sale! That is crazy!) I used to shop for the bargain items when my kids were little... as they've gotten older, I have less reason to be out in the fray, as the things they want/need are not what drives the crowds. However, my daughter started begging to come with me about three or four years ago, so even though there has not been much in recent years for me to get excited about sale-wise, it's something I look forward to for spending the time with her. And now that so many stores are starting their sales on Wednesday and Thursday, we've found that 5 or 6 am on Friday morning is an excellent time to shop, as the stores are practically empty of shoppers and already restocked after the first frenzy.

message 958: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Congrats on the promotion, Melissa :-)

message 959: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I hate shopping. After supper, my friend and I went shopping because I said I needed to buy some new clothes. I now feel depressed. Mind you, there was a really nice black & white sweater that will look great with a black skirt that was there. I'm going to go back and try them on. I have a Christmas party on the 13th that I need to get something for. The sweater would look great with tights too, but I think the skirt would be better for the party.

message 960: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I hate shopping as well, Janice! I hope the outfit works out for you :) I wish my Pinterest closet was real then I wouldn't have to go shopping for clothes, lol :-)

As someone who watched her fellow back snap his foot in two on the weekend, and then watched someone break their team mates nose with a stick by accident, I guarantee grass is insanely dangerous still. Particularly when it's played by a group of numptys (including myself) who have no idea what they are doing.

message 962: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Grats on the promotion and the Nanowrimo effort Melissa!

Not a shopper either. My shoes have holes in them at the moment and I'm just wearing thongs (flip flops to the rest of you) to deal with it as I can't bring myself to go to a shop.

Shops are open at 5am? That's crazy talk.

message 963: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Here, in Canada, "ice" as assumed when we say hockey. If it's anything else - like floor hockey - it's specified. We talk about hockey, floor hockey or field hockey. Actually, field hockey isn't all that common here. We played it in highschool as part of our phys ed class but that's about it.

message 964: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Congrats Melissa!

I hate shopping too. I can only stand it when the shops are almost empty, nobody bothers me, and I don't have to wait for a friend/mom/sister also fitting things on.

message 965: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm in the hate shopping camp too. I like online shopping where I don't have to battle the crowds, pay ridiculous amounts of money for car parking and go out in the cold. If I do go shopping, I've generally scoured the shop website that I will be going to and I know what I want so it's a matter of in and out.

Congrats Melissa on the promotion and Nanowrimo - I don't think I'd have made it past a couple of days if I tried something like that.

That sounds painful Rusalka - I'll take what I said back about one style of hockey being less dangerous than the other. I got all inspired by the Olympics and wanted to join a hockey team but I'm probably rubbish and the danger element also put me off a bit.

Don't forget boot hockey. On ice but without skates... Played a lot of that with friends in my university years.... Hey... As long as you don't have to stop...

Sounds fantastic!

To be fair, that was a terrible week. Usually it's just my brother stacking it and at least one big welty bruise on someone.

Tasha I hate shopping too and do most of my shopping online. But with a young daughter, I sometimes have to hit the shops for her...like Justice...need I say more? Luckily she doesn't mind going to thrift shops either so that makes it a lot more fun.

Rusalka, I wear flip flops all summer long. And in winter I wear my favorite boots. I don't need many shoes to keep me happy. :)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Hockey is amazing!! I just scored tickets today to a Leafs home game against the Flyers!!! So stoked for February 25th to arrive, lol!!!

message 970: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie That will be an awesome game, Cathie!! Have fun!!

message 971: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Yeah, I am so stoked about getting the tickets. It's nearly next to impossible to get 2 Leafs tickets, side by side to any game, let alone one with my 2 favourite teams.

This has been on my bucket list since I first created one many eons ago, lol; I never thought I would get the opportunity for it to occur ☺ We had a United Way Auction at work today and one of our Board of Directors donated the tickets and I won the Auction; woohoo!! This is my birthday and Christmas and I love me present all wrapped into one for this year and next, lol!

message 972: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Best present EVER :-) I'm super excited for you!!

message 973: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Thanks Stephanie; too bad you weren't close to Toronto ~ we could share the game together.

I have 2 boys and somehow??? neither one of them are hockey fans ~ I swear they were somehow switched at birth, lol. Need to share this with someone who loves the game as much as I do ☺

message 974: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oooh that would be fun, Cathie!!
I can't believe your boys don't like hockey. I'm mean how could they not? It is the best sport there is :-)
My favorite part are the fights! Especially goalie fights! Fighting doesn't happen too often anymore though :(
When I worked for a junior team we had to run down to the bottom of our sections during fights to make sure the crowd didn't throw stuff onto the ice..I would usually be cheering on the fights along with the crowd though ;-)
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see the players get hurt, it just kind of brings the adrenaline up for the game, lol!

message 975: by Stephanie (new)

Lol, we sound like 2 peas in a pod Stephanie. That's why I love the Flyers so much; from way back in the day when they were known as the Broad Street Bullies.

message 978: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie We sure do, Cathie :-)
There is a good rivalry between them and my Devils!! I've started cheering on the Blues though since Brodeur signed with them! I'm happy to see him playing even if it isn't for my Devils :)

message 979: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments I was glad to see Brodeur get that deal; I couldn't imagine him not being picked up!

message 986: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Yep, and when he can't play any more, he can coach or manage, etc. He will be around the league for a long long time. Think of Bellevue (?spelling), the Montreal Canadian who just died at 81 years of age; he was loved and respected and still active in the organization in ways relating to promotion, etc.

(I think we have hijacked this thread and turned it into a hockey hub, lol)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments NASCAR (proud supporter of the #4 Budweiser chevy team). Football. (Go Packers!). NCAA college basketball (Duke). We don't do hockey although we should be Bruins fans seeig as my wifes great uncle owns the team but we just don't follow it. Oh and beer and bacon.

message 990: by Stephanie (new)

message 997: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Cathie, did you see that Marty got his first win as a Blue today? I just saw via Facebook because we weren't hime to watch/listen to the game!! He didn't start but It says he went in as relief and got the win :)

message 998: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Yeah, he done good Stephanie ☺

Travis, all those things are very very good, but they aren't Hockey!! Wow, Bruins in the family and you just casually toss it aside?! You can send that family member across the border to me, lol
