I had a vet once tell me that it's very rare for an animal to die at home. She thinks it's bc they feel a need to protect us and so hang on and on.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Got pulled out in a jiffy. Walked to back 40 deer coming out all over and wife calls cuz she lost brakes on way home so i hoofed it back and went to the next thing. Drove that home and AAA can take it from here.

Lol oh dear Travis. Let us know when you get out. Otherwise I'll be imagining you buried under 6 ft of snow all day.

Esther - sorry to hear about your cat - losing pets is tough :-(

message 908: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We just had a bunch of rain that melted last weeks snow so everyrhing is a soft mushy mess. Only got about 2 inchesnof snow buy with temps right around freezing its wet heavy snotty crap. Flatbed came to take wifes suv to dealer and yup my wife now has a video of me towing the tow truck out. If there has to be snow i like it cold. Give me 15°F all winter and I love it. Just hold the wind chill.

Eh deer cows I'm constantly surrounded with hooves

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, Esther, sorry to hear about your dear kitty.

Sounds like Travis is ok now. Good to know he is not stuck out in the snow. :)

It was a nice day here. No rain and mild. I had the day off today. Took KFC to daughter and boys and had a nice evening. I am going to go to the movies with Evan tomorrow, to see Mocking Jay Part 1 and then have lunch with him and Ryan. Amy has to work. Shopping on Friday! Hope everyone celebrating has a nice Thanksgiving!

Hope you start feeling better soon, Sarah.

message 911: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Glad you are out of your hole Travis. Funny that you had to tow the tow truck! A few years back, my partner worked at WOMAD music festival having to tow the dustbin lorries around the festival site with his tractor. That summer had been an extremely wet year and there was just mud everywhere. Even the tractors were slipping and sliding everywhere - pretty dangerous I thought as so many people still walked so close to the tractors even though they could see full well they might slip at any moment. I went along with a free ticket too and I got stuck up to my knees in mud (this was around midnight in the dark), I stoped sudden and the people behind me ploughed in to the back of me so I ended face first in a load of mud, with a strangers piled on top of me! I was absolutely covered! I needed a quick drink from the beer tent after that and then went back to the tent to change and sleep.

message 912: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments In a situation like that its always the initial covering of mud. Once youre dirty you can go with the flow well enough. Or at least thats how it is for me. Like testing the pool water before you get in.

Sarah | 18550 comments Hope everyone who celebrates it had great a Thanksgiving.

I'm really excited as tomorrow I'm off to see our boat to measure up - this will hopefully help us to decide which bits of furniture we need to get rid of and which bits might fit on. Only 3 weeks until we pick it up!

I've been listening to the radio while doing some tidying up this morning and they've been talking about Black Friday and how there have been some scuffles in shops over items. I think it's absolutely crazy - it's just stuff! I know people like a bargain but to fight over something is too far.

message 919: by Peggy (last edited Nov 28, 2014 06:25AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Exciting Sarah! I hope you can keep your favourite things :)

It has always been a mystery to me why people would go shop on a day like Black Friday. I live very close to the German border, and a couple of times a year the Germans have a national holiday and all stores are closed, and they all come to my city for shopping because we have this big and very popular outlet centre. Last time, there were 58.000 Germans in the city, and we have a population of 56.000! I think at the busiest time the people driving from Germany were stuck in traffic for some hours before actually being able to drive into the city. Madness!

When I was in my late teens I had a job at Aldi (discount supermarket) and every Wednesday they had these special non-food items on sale for quite good prices. It has happened more than once that people were crowding in front of the doors 30 minutes before opening up, and as soon as the doors open, they run inside and fight over the products. It even happened once that they ran into my colleague who opened the door, she fell, and people just ran on!

message 920: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments We have Aldi here in the UK and it has become a popular store because of its price compared to Tesco and the like. Also Lidl. We have those deals here on a Thursday and I can well imagine that people queue up for the shop to open. Would explain why when I saunter down there on a Saturday hoping to pick up one of said bargains, there are none left!

message 921: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Yes Sarah, it's ridiculous and insane - definitely not a high point of the Thanksgiving weekend. It's a sad reflection of consumerism and quite frankly the lack of respect for each other. I don't get the quest for the bargain - although I do know some folks who love it and line up for the thrill of the bargain - crazy folks, not me. To each his own I guess!

message 922: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments It does seem ironic that on one day people reflect and are grateful for the blessings in their life, and the next they're fighting over some bargain.

It irks me that Canadian retailers have jumped on the bandwagon with dollar signs in their eyes. Many stores in my city opened at 6:00 this morning, eager to make a killing on the Black Friday phenomenon.

message 923: by Tasha (new)

Tasha We have stores now opeining Thanksgiving night! It's crazy. I have never shopped during black friday although I do enjoy good sales online. ;)

message 924: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I had a fun day. We had a blizzard last night and I woke to a foot deep snowdrift behind my car. I knew I'd be out shovelling if I wanted to go anywhere. In chatting up the janitor, I learned that the grounds maintenance crew took the day off. The day after a blizzard is not a good day to take off. Out I went with my shovel to try and clean the whole end of the parking lot so I could get out. I did get stuck 3 times after that. I have an appointment at 9:00 tomorrow morning to get my winter tires put on the car. I'll leave a half hour earlier because I'm sure I'll be shovelling my way out.

The parking stall beside me is generally empty. Every now and again I see a big 4x4 or a Sante Fe parked there. But it's not very often so I figured I'd be okay to shovel a bit of the snow into it. Guess who should pull in this afternoon? The Sante Fe. Oops! I feel a little guilty. She pulled alongside the stall and just stared at it. She sat there for about 5 minutes before she backed out and left. I don't know if she's a visitor that comes every few months, or what the situation is.

message 926: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Love those bags/tshirts Travis! Great ideas for book lovers. It's a shame they don't do custom ones (unless they do and I missed it) - A Lord of the Rings/hobbit one would be awesome!

message 927: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Awesome, Travis! Thank you for sharing the link :-)

message 928: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I agree aboud Lord of the Rings, Sarah. They'd make great gifts!

message 929: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Any place I see shirts with book themes. They always have an odd assortment and usually not any titles of great interest to me personally. There is a site that had shirts all with the cover art of books on it. Can't for the life of me recall that one. I may stumble upon it one of these days. I never search they just kind of find me.

message 930: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I like the totes much better than the shirts myself. Too bad I have no use for a tote. Although I could definitely see Cherie sporting the Sherlock Holmes tote bag.

message 931: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I agree Travis on the totes - I preferred the designs and the look of those more than the shirts. I remember seeing a website where you could design your own fabric so I might have to see if I can get some of the text of book made in to fabric for myself to make my own tote from.

I am considering it. How great to go to the library carrying it!

Baked off the leftover squash casserole from this experiment and it was yummy! Turned out similar to lasagna but with squash instead of noodles. Spouse thought so too - so yes I'll be happy to give this further trials. Very pleased : )

message 935: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Speaking of squash, do any of you make zuchinni pasta? I make it using a spiralizer and throw some sauce and goodies on top and it's so yummy!

Oh yes. I just use a veggie peeler and peel it. Chuck it in the pan with olive oil for a minute or two and done. I use it in salads as a base, or I make a delicious garlic, yoghurt, fetta and pea sauce to toss through it and eat bucket loads.

message 938: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That all sounds bloody lovely!! Going to have to give that a go! I used to really love cooking and trying out new dishes. Then I got a bit lazy. I'm hoping to get back in to cooking again. I love curries but I am hopeless at making them - I've seen a vegetarian Indian Cookery class which I'm thinking I might do in the New Year (they do a Northern and and a Southern one).

I am totally like a kid the night before Christmas - I just need to pick up the boat already. 2 weeks and counting! Finding it very difficult to focus on anything un-boat related.

Yesterday was the first really cold day we've had so I think our winter has started properly now. I think we've been spoiled with an unusually mild Autumn/early Winter. Not sure what that means for the rest of the season!

message 939: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Dec 02, 2014 05:00AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Seriously, that sauce is stupidly easy. Yoghurt, food processor (or knife and bowl), lots and lots of garlic, maybe a squirt of lemon juice. Break fetta into it, stir through warm zucchini and peas that have had hot water poured over (or chucked in a pot) for 30 secs or so. Stir so fetta melts a bit.

And add anything else you want. Dill maybe. Greens if you feel like it. Etc.

message 940: by Tasha (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I'm like you, Sarah. I used to love to cook and bake. One Sunday a month I would plan an entire meal of recipes I'd never tried before. Some were great successes; others were a flop. I'm trying to rekindle that love of cooking, but it's been tough. I'm not sure what my issue is.

Rusalka, your zucchini pasta sounds great. I shall have to try it some day.

I understand. I used to love the Flyers way back when, with a passion very like yours. I don't follow hockey anymore but if I had to choose a sport to follow these days it would be hockey without a doubt. Enjoy your games. :)
