Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks everyone! I still find it hard to believe.

And boyfriend was very very very excited about the tickets! Yay! The only thing I worry about now is that they don't reach us. They have to be sent from the UK but there was no option for secure mail, so it will be standard mail. And of course it has to travel a bit longer to the Netherlands than within the UK, so if they send them very late it could be a problem too. Here you can always choose e-tickets, they don't look so nice but at least you get them right away!

I'm glad that person isn't bothering you anymore Rusalka!

Has anyone else noticed problems with the app? I can see the updates and click on books people want to read, but as soon as I try to go to a thread I keep getting an error.

message 853: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Fingers crossed they arrive Peggy - It's much better when you can choose etickets - I don't know why there isn't that option for all gigs but it seems to depend on the venue (and the band). Could you contact the vendor to check if you could have that option?! Or collecting them from the ticket seller when you arrive in the UK? I remember doing that once although it was some years ago.

I've been having problems with the app since yesterday too - it shows me all the updates but when I click it comes up with an error - really annoying - happening on my kindle fire and my phone - glad to hear it's not just me!

I'm off sick from work again today

message 854: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I googled a bit and I read for several concerts at Wembley that tickets could be picked up from the box office, but when I booked the FF the only option was standard mail. Good idea to contact them to see if there are other options, I will try that.

I hope you feel better soon!!

That's what we sometimes call a GIANT sandwich. Eg. "That's not a sandwich, that's a Manwich!". Not sure how you would get that in a can."

https://www.google.com/images?hl=en&a...

Link to show the Manwich I was talking about. A can of this stuff and a pound of ground beef (hamburger here) and a package of hamburger buns and you get Sloppy Joe sandwiches. Sloppy - because it oozes all over the front of you when you try to eat them, but GOOOOD.
That is what she made for dinner after she walked to the store and took enough bottles/cans (for the deposit) back to buy a pkg of buns.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I was thinking about the Spagetti squash, and I bet the Manwich - with or without the meat (or veggi crumbles) would be good on it. It might be kind of sweet though. The Manwich comes in a chunky version and a spicy barbaque flavor too. Hmmmm.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Spaghetti squash tomorrow for dinner. Fingers crossed it'll pass the hubby approval test. When my husband doesn't like something experimental I've put together in the kitchen, he eats very slowly and takes tiny bites. Then after about 5 or maybe 10 minutes he'll say how full he is even tho he's hardly eaten a thing!

message 865: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Wow TJ, that sounds so familiar! My partner is exactly the same! Fingers crossed your experiment with the squash is a success - it is very tasty. My partner said it was better than he'd expected and he would eat it again!

Sarah | 18550 comments Travis? You still there?!? Saw your area on the UK news last night - that is some serious snow! Hope you are faring well!

No snow here thank god, just horrible drizzle. I'm off to London later today to see a band which I'm really looking forward to, then a stop over at my parents.

message 867: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We're having a cold, crisp sunny day today (it was only 2 degrees when I walked to the train this morning). The rest of the weekend promises to be around 12 degrees and also sunny. I wish it was like this last weekend. We went away for the weekend with my parents, boyfriend, and sister and boyfriend, but we had rain 80% of the time.

message 868: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I don't know what our total for this week is I'd say around 3 ft. Not a big deal when you live in the country. Plenty of space to push it. These bands are so funny it was snowing and blowing like crazy yesterday then the band dropped south about 20 miles and we had all at once blue sky amd sun. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde weather. I saw some video from Buffalo of north of the city filming the wall, which was the band, hitting south of the city. Like a freight train rolling through. Within a couple miles they go from 6 ft to a light dusting. That is the power of a lake effect band. They are such isolated storms. In a city there's not much they can do but start loading it up in dump trucks and dump in a river. They really try to avoid dumping snow in rivers anymore because of thr road salt amd not wanting to pollute the river but sometimes you just gotta do whats necessary and a river is usually the only place to get rid of the stuff. You can only pile it so high

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Let it go parody. Buffalo version: http://youtu.be/lb7CvFgf3OI. This is what happens when people get snowed in their true life calling and talents come out

message 870: by Tasha (new)

Tasha One of the books I read this month for Fict or Fact, The Children's Blizzard, reminds me of this storm a bit. It was a balmy day (compared to the days before) and within minutes a wall of snow hit down and became an intense blizzard. It was pretty awesome seeing that snow wall on tv so I can now imagine more of what that snow wall probably looked like.

Stephanie @Janice, that book sounds good! Just added it to my TBR shelf :)
It is dreary here today then supposed to be about 74 tomorrow..then back down into the 50's..they are saying snow on Wednesday but I doubt it. The weather here is bizarre that is for sure :)

message 876: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I hope you enjoy it Stephanie.

Weather here is typical November weather. It was melting the other day but there was a weird ice fog dampening everything. Then, we woke up to about 1" of snow over that icy base.

Well, the squash dish was pretty good, but I wouldn't call it a complete success. The squash came out in big chunks and didn't pull apart into strands as well as I expected. I decided it needed to cook more and it was better after that, but I think next time I'll roast the squash in the oven instead of using the microwave. To tell the truth, my husband and I both ate small bites and were both full really fast. It's a filling dish. I made a casserole with the remainder and put it in the freezer to reheat for a fast dinner some cold night soon.

My daughter always cuts them in half, removes the seeds, greases the cut sides, and puts them cut-side-down on a cookie sheet to bake in the oven. Yes, it is important to make sure they are thouroughly cooked or "shredding" them will not work well.

Don't give up Janet. I think most squash is a learned taste. I like mine on the sweet side, but most prefer it savory. That is the great thing with most squash. Any way you can think to use it - works.

Don't tell anyone, but the curtains are purple! The first two quilts I had on the bed had lots of purple in them. This one has a tiny bit in the borders, but not enough to warrant purple curtains. Generally, I'm not all that matchy-pooey, but I still draw the line at some colour combinations (obviously not enough to go out and buy new curtains).

message 890: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @TJ - I cooked mine like Cherie suggested - cut in half, scooped out the seeds, brushed with olive oil and placed face down on backing tray and roasted. I think I went the other way and cooked them for slightly too long. You're right that they are filling though. Will you have another go at it?

@Esther - I am sorry to hear your news. Sending you hugs.

Well I'm still off work with a stupid cough/sinus/cold thing. On the whole, I'm not too bad but given my line of work requires me to be able to speak in a relaxing way, I feel bad if I were to croak, cough and splutter through a session someone is paying money for.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Sorry about your cat but 16 years old. Appears that cat had a pretty good run at life for sure.

Just had to see one of my dogs off on monday. She was about 14. No love lost betwern us though I had an uncle who decided he didn't want her when she was 7-8 yrs old and asked if I'd take her. I did amd the dog hated me. In fact disowned me. She decided she liked my uncle better (different uncle) who lives about 500 ft away from me and stayed by his house all the time for the last 6 years. Only in ladt year as she was mostly blindwould she come near me. It apparently broke her heart when my uncle left her off and since I was handed her she always associated me with it and stayed as far from me as possible. Funny how animals associate things

Yes she did have a long life. I just wish animals would just die nicely in their sleep.

While we know putting them to sleep is the right decision in her case, the decision always tears me apart.
