Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I've never had kidneys, brains, hearts, sweetbreads, and hope to keep it that way. Liver is bad enough tho I can eat sparingly when organic in pate or battered and fried served with gravy. I cook the latter sometimes for my spouse. I sauté them sometimes as a treat to add to my Sheeba dog-ter's dinner.

Tasha When I was in Russia, the hotel served us an app of what I thought was a slice of thin roast beef. Weird but whatever. I ate it only to find out that it was actually a slice of tongue.

message 603: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I don't do organs, but I have had sweetbreads. It was one of those headstrong teenage moments: we were out for a celebration dinner at the fanciest French restaurant in town, and I decided to order sweetbreads. My mother asked me if I knew what they were, and I said "No, and don't tell me." So I ate them, and they were delicious, and then my mother told me what they were. They were not so delicious that I've ever felt an urge to eat them again.

LOL! Too funny, Melissa. What was your reaction when you found out what they were? We also call them Prairie Oysters here.

Melissa Janice, I like to think I kept my cool and it didn't phase me. But, at age 17, I think that is more wishful thinking. My mother, bless her, managed to neither smirk nor laugh at me.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm in a bad mood! I was planning to go to this huge bookfest with thousands of very cheap books for sale, but instead it seems like I will be clearing out the basement storage room belonging to our apartment, only because office rooms on the ground floor are being transformed into apartments as well and they need to do work for pipes or whatever in these storage rooms. It's going to take all day to move (and only for a day, then it has to go all back!), and I'm so angry and frustrated. Boyfriend is going to talk to the people involved tomorrow, hopefully they can come up with a solution...

message 607: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Oh that is annoying Peggy! Hope you get things sorted and that you can get to the bookfest even if it is only for a short time. Bookfest sounds like heaven! I recently found out about a place nearby called Bookbarn which has loads of cheap books and I was really excited about it but it seems pointless me going now as I'll have no space on the boat for books. I could go an browse though and have coffee and eat cake surrounded by lots of books though!

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Bookfest sounds fun! I hope you manage to spend a bit of time there, Peggy.

OMG, This is a never ending saga!

On Monday, Debra and I went to a painting workshop called Paint and Pour. Paint an acrylic canvas and Pour wine to drink. We have never done this before, and I had assumed that there would be wine at the event, when in reality it was BYOB. So Debra went across the street to a wine shop, bought a bottle for us to share and Guess What...she had to buy a corkscrew as well. (Except we found out after the fact that the painters had corkscrews on hand.)

Tuesday Debra and I decided to tackle that bottle of white wine that we had abandoned the week before. My newly purchased corkscrew snapped right in half on its maiden voyage! Debra's newly purchased corkscrew, the "keep in your purse" variety with no do-hickey for leverage, would not budge the cork! We decided on Plan Five, which wasn't all that easy either, and pushed the cork inside the bottle using the corkscrew case.

Off to buy another corkscrew!☻

Maybe switch to beer?

message 613: by Tasha (new)

Tasha yeah, it might be time to take the hint. ;)

jk...wine is worth the effort, although I've never had to work that hard for wine. ;)

An iced cold beer on a hot day is quite refreshing.

I wonder if I have the strength to twist off the caps of either one!☻

message 625: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I saw a headline about Daniel Radcliffe on my phone just before I went to bed last night but had forgotten all about it by the time I woke up this morning so thank you Travis for linking it here - that was awesome!

I had to laugh Almeta and your Paint and Pour - that's a great idea for a group - it does have the potential to get very messy though depending on how much wine you pour!

I am really excited about this coming weekend as we are off up to see our boat to measure up and check on the work that's being done on it. Then we're off on a Helsman course so that we can learn how to drive it - it will be my first time so a little nervous I'll crash the boat but I'm mostly excited!

Perhaps because I'm looking forward to the weekend so much, this week seems to be dragging horrendously!

message 626: by Tasha (new)

Tasha We have a similar thing to the Paint and Pour, it's called Uncorked Artist. A group of us women got together one night, with bottles of wine, and had such a fun night. Lots of laughing and some very interesting paintings by the end of the night!

We are hooked!

Just signed up for another Paint and Pour adventure. This time we will be painting a holiday tree.

(Our own wine...still have to buy a more sturdy corkscrew. I have a friend who has an electric one, and I don't think he uses it. Maybe I can talk him out of it.☻)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Stephanie wrote: "A new episode of Bones is on tonight! Yay!!"

Oh, is that still on. I stopped watching for some reason. It got too carzy for me. I loved Steely Booth though. Maybe I will turn the tv on and check it out.

I am off work tomorrow. I hope it will not rain for all of the trick-r-treaters tomorrow night. We will be at an indoor party for an hour or two, but outside after that. I always walk around the neighborhood with my daughter and grandsons. No little kids in my neighborhood any more so I do not stay home and give out candy. Not for the last 5 years.

@ Travis. Sometimes the spell check on the mobile app on my iPod is a pain in the neck, but other times I am grateful it is there. I am sure I would gripe if it went away though too!

Tasha Stephanie wrote: "A new episode of Bones is on tonight! Yay!!"

I just started watching that series. yes, I know, it's in like it's 9th season or something? I'm not much of a tv watcher but both my mom and my son are watching it and raving about it. Although my son watched the end of season 3 today and was really disappointed in what happened. he says he may not continue on with the series now. I told him not to tell me what happened but I gotta say it's making me really want to watch and find out!

message 639: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yes, Cherie, it is still on :-) Booth is my favorite on the show :-) I love all the forensic science stuff. I watch CSI but am a few seasons behind on the Vegas one and Miami and NY have both been cancelled :-( we like the Blacklist as well. There are a lot of cop dramas on that we love to watch.
Have fun taking the little ones trick or treating!! Stay safe!!

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments One of my friends has an electric corkscrew and it works fine, even if it's a little bit noisy.

That clip of Brad Cooper and Jimmy Fallon is hilarious. My daughter-in-law and I get into a giggle fit like that from time to time. Ahhhh.... it's good to laugh.

Sarah | 18549 comments Happy Halloween to everyone! Anyone got plans for it? We're doing... nothing! The local climbing centre are doing a "Climb in the Dark" event which sounds fun but I don't know whether to go or not yet. I have a busy weekend and I need my strength so climbing is probably not a good idea.

message 644: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I have an 8yo so trick or treating is the plan for tonight. We also have a halloween party this afternoon. My daughter has been counting down the days, this is a huge holiday for her. Me, not so much. But I do love watching her getting all excited though.

message 645: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Halloween is not big in the Netherlands at all, but I have some American and Canadian colleagues/friends, and they have organized a Halloween potluck tonight. I think it will be just fun and chatting and perhaps playing some games, although it seems quite a few people are coming and I'm not sure if the games are suitable for that.

message 646: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We got lucky our son (4) wanted to use his dragon costume from last year so that was easy. Half a dozen stops on the trick or treat line and that is that. The daughter (1+) not even going to mess around dressing her up this year. I'm certain someone will still give her some treats.

message 647: by Tasha (new)

Tasha My 12yo son is going out this year too, only bc he is going as his favorite character from the Walking Dead video game, Luke. Otherwise he wouldn't be going out. I think this is his last year.

message 648: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie My hubby and I might go see a band tonight with friend of ours. We don't have kids so no trick or treating for us :-) our dog has a bee costume though :-)
Hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween :-)

message 649: by Melissa (new)

Melissa No halloween antics here either. Daughter is going to the football game tonight in costume. She and her friends are all going as Disney princesses. I'm not sure what the football game has to do with anything except that I think it's the last game of the season.

Hubby and I talked about having a date night but no firm plans. I'd kind of like to go to a movie (maybe Horns?). Haven't even bought candy this year - we love to greet trick-or-treaters but we don't get many at our house.

message 650: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments No costumes and no trick or treaters for me. We do splurge on fireworks though, so we'll be out tonight setting those off!
