Howdy friends (that was pretty stereotypical, was it not?).
I may be the only person in the group who has wandered into the Western genre, but I wanted to check just to be sure.
I've only read a few and was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations? The genre is by no means my favorite, but it's fun to pick up every now and then and be carried away to a gun fight, or an old train/stagecoach robbery, or a cattle drive.
So, what are your thoughts? Read any good westerns lately?
I've got a couple on my to-read shelf (the literal, physical one at home) but haven't gotten to them yet. I keep thinking "Ooh, that'll be a fun read!"... And then they get put off in favor of something else, time and time again.
I'd like to find a few westerns that I can really sink my teeth into, too, though.
I did just find a copy of Louis L'Amour's The Haunted Mesa. It's billed as a science-fiction set in the southwest. I've always liked his style of writing, but it's so easy for me to get distracted from a western. Maybe the creepy-sci-fi-factor will be enough to get me into this one...
