I saw a post from Evans Light and read this thread and realized one of his stories was in the book. I started reading as I'm too impatient to wait a week (lol). I think this is a good choice for a group read regardless of the group size (buddy or otherwise). I'll check in later after y'all have started reading it.
Please count me in as well! I just secured my copy of Bad Apples. I'm trying my hardest to at least wait until October to start...come on 10/6!
There are few rules. Preface your posts with the title of the story you're posting about, and then post within spoiler tags. Does that work, Kate/everyone?This way everyone can go at their own pace, without anything being spoiled.
I think a lot of mini discussions will start up once we get going. I love to see what other people think about a certain story, don't you? :)
Especially when we have a lot of different types of readers of different ages, from all over the world. :)

Sounds good to me. :)
Read the first story, almost done with the second. Fun, fantastical stuff. A bit of halloween myth-building for sure.
The first story I visualized as a (view spoiler) With Pumpkinhead Ted, as much as I enjoyed it (view spoiler)
Thanks, Char, for recommending this to me. Looks good and interesting. Will be reading this through the whole October, one tale at a time.
First story, I could fully visualize the kids, and loved the thick, flowing description. That was amazing. After the neat trick or treat they pulled, I suddenly wasn't able to track the plot. I'm getting older, of course, and often lose my reading glasses on the top of my head. As for Pumpkinhead (view spoiler)

Exactly, that's what I was seeing too and I think the way they took care of the cranky people was rather odd but it left my mind looking at things from so many angles.

Easily darker and more twisted...in a way, more violent too.
I read Ghost Light Road. I really liked it!! as I started it, I was smiling and telling my husband about it. it's easy to connect with the 4 characters in the beginning as well as what they decide to go do. I really liked this one!

With the first story I had a hard time (view spoiler) I was pretty tired when I read it so I'm going to read it again.
Good morning, all!! I went away for the weekend and on the way home last night, since I didn't have to drive, I read the first story: The Riggle Twins by Gregor Xane. I enjoyed it. A lot!
(view spoiler)
I've secretly been in since Saturday lol! I'm loving the storys all the author's have stuch good Halloween story skills it's unreal! ♥
I got little bit of a head start as well, startig on Saturday, and I'm now just past the middle of the 4th story. So far I've really enjoyed them all - this is a really solid collection. I definitely agree about the first story feeling like a Tim Burton movie - I was imagining all of them in full stop-action glory while reading. :-)The only thing that fell a little flat for me was the ending of Pumpkinhead Ted. I hadn't expected it to go there, and I kind of wish it hadn't. It didn't ruin the story for me, by any stretch, it just "brought it down a notch".
Just a reminder as more people are getting going with this read: Please preface your post with the title of whichever story you're reading. Then please put your post between spoiler tags if you're posting anything that could spoil it for the next reader.
(Looks like everyone is doing this so far, so thanks!)
The Riggle TwinsThis was an awesome Halloween legend with just enough information to let the reader try to fill in the gaps. (view spoiler)
The Riggle Twins reminded me of the character of Sam from the horror movie Trick R Treat. I thought the description of the twins brought great visuals to the story and still left a lot to the imagination.
Pumpkin Head TedThis had a very Twilight Zone feel to it for me. I've read the first three stories now and I'm impressed with how cinematic they are. How cool would it be for someone to crank these out in serial form on AMC for Fearfest some year?

Nate, I felt the same way. Beware to those that do not offer candy on Halloween!
Pumpkin Head TedI don't believe I will ever look at fireflies in the same way again. :)
I thought at first that this would be the typical revenge story but (view spoiler)
I really enjoyed all of the stories in this collection. Edward and Gregor were first time reads and I will read more from them. Evans, Adam, and Jason I had read before. Was truly impressed with each and every story. Great book for this time of year.

I'm glad you enjoyed them, Lisa! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. :)
These were all great stories and I believe it will be an annual, seasonal reread for me. (Yes, even Edward's story.)
I've read some of Ed's short stories before: What the Dark Brings is a fantastic collection from him.
