This sounds like the same book I read maybe three or four years ago and am trying to find again!

[POSSIBLE SPOILERS]

I just remember the hero was already in love with his best friend's girlfriend, the girlfriend took care of her sick boyfriend for a long time bf the beach trip, the friend dies, and the hero and heroine get together shortly afterward while grieving. Also, they were all great friends before, the girlfriend feels super guilty, and they are caught at one point by the deceased boy's parent(s).
