Samya I'm sure many of you struggle with this problem. You decide to read a chapter before bed and then suddenly it's 4:30 in the morning and you are eyes are burning from the book you have just finished. If you do this you're like me.
If you can, please help me out and comment down anything that helps with this, I'd really appreciate it!
Or if you'd like, feel free to comment anything relating to this comment. Thank You! :)

Kelly Brigid ♡ Well, you have to choose: lie awake in agonizing suspense of what will happen, or read til' your eyes burn but satisfy your curiosity? Yeah, I choose the latter. Haha.

You should buy a kindle paperwhite. It doesn't hurt your eyes like at all! Believe me, I've spent hours on this thing at night with near none eye strain! ^.^

TC I do that constantly! I've learned to start books earlier in the day/evening, knowing I won't be able to stop once I start!! Also, I take note of how big the book is. If I know it's late or that I don't have much time to read, I'll read a shorter novel and stay clear of anything over 350 pages, they can wait till the weekend! :P

Kelly Brigid ♡ I try to do that, I REALLY do! But I can't help myself when it comes to that most of the time! lol. If I see that book I have to read it!

message 5: by TC (new) - rated it 4 stars

TC Haha I know what you mean! It's even worse when I start a book when I'm putting off doing something else! Knowing I shouldn't be reading usually just makes me enjoy the book even more...!

Samya Thanks for the advice.
This summer it became so bad that i finished divergent in one night and insurgent the next night and allegiant the next night haha and then repeated it.

TC Oh God ya, starting a trilogy is never good if you expect to sleep/get anything done before its finished!ha Even worse for me is the fact that i'm a slow reader!

Kelly Brigid ♡ So, what's the longest book you guys have ever read at night?

Kirsten Allegiant. I finished it around one or two in the morning. On a school night... I didn't get anything done the next day...

I feel you. My life story lol

True, but it's so tempting haha!

drowningmermaid Keep a copy of The Country of the Pointed Firs next to your bed. If it's getting late, read that one instead. It's a boring book, but that's not why it's great to fall asleep to-- very atmospheric and absolutely nothing happens. I read that one in college and I fell asleep twenty minutes after starting it, even if I'd just woken up from a ten hour night's sleep.

Or, alternately, have the book you're reading also available to you on audiobook. It might be a pain to find your place, but if you only let yourself LISTEN to the book you're reading, while you lie in the dark, you'll probably fall asleep a lot sooner than you would if you were reading with all the lights on.

Storm Arashi I read books in increments at night, If it's a REALLY good book, or I have access to it instantly...Yeah... I'll nail that sucker in one night.

I once read books one and two of the PSS Chronicles in one night, I told my mom I was going to sleep but I stayed up and read the last book instead.

XD I do it a lot.

Aneesha It depends if it's a good book like hunger games. If you find yourself still awake at 2 pm you might want to set a timer for 2 hours so it feels like you have been awake all night reading the book. For me I finished the first harry potter book in 1 hour. If my idea does not work for you at least I was trying to help.

Do you ever get caught reading with the book like under your sheets? XD

Yeah, but my mom isn't someone who'd yell at me over reading late. She used to do it all the time herself, the only person who ever got his feathers in a bunch was my dad but my mom fixed his wagon after he tried to ground me from reading cause he caught me up late not on the computer, not watching TV or listening to music... But *GASP* Reading! OAO

He left last year so I can pull all the book nighters I want. XD

LOL. I used to read at night just with the old fashioned flash light, and my mom would say it'll hurt my eyes so she eventually banned me from doing that, so...there came the birth of my kindle! XD

Haniccol ♪~Kelly~♪ wrote: "So, what's the longest book you guys have ever read at night?"

Longest book read in a day (which went into the night) was the seventh Harry Potter book. I got home with it around 4:00 in the afternoon and started reading. Next thing I knew, it was 6AM and I was sobbing over the last few pages. All I did for that chunk of time was read, eat potato chips and go to the bathroom. On the upside, my family has always been pretty understanding of my obsession and no one said anything about it (to my face anyway).

Nuran The longest book I read within a day was the girl with the dragon tattoo. I was on holiday and just read it by the beach then back at the apartment we were staying at. Starting from 10am, I finished it about 2am. I’m a night owl anyway and often stay up til 1/2am (on the weekdays) / 3am (weekends) just doing anything or nothing in particular.

But if I can engrossed in a really good book and know I need a good sleep for the next day because I’m working and have to get up at 7, I just try and remember how cranky I’ll get and how difficult it’ll be to get through the day. Also, listening to relaxing videos on youtube is also a great way to wind down and usually puts me to sleep within 20 mins.

Though, some nights, when it’s a really good part in a book, I reason that I can get by with 4-5 hours sleep because I often do, and just keep on reading.

lol. The longest book I've ever read in a day was The Enchantress (Nicholas Flamal Codex #6) by Michael Scott. I started it at 10 AM in the morning and finished at 10:30 PM. And I was just screaming over the twist ending all night. That ending still remains the most unexpected twist ending I've ever read :)
