Nominations are now open until August 22nd for the October 2019 Open Pick.

Nominating guidelines:
- Fiction (original & translation, if applicable) first published between January 1, 2000 and October 1, 2018. For translations the latter date must be an English edition.
- One nomination per person (please do not nominate or vote for a book unless you are certain you can read and discuss if it wins)
- A book this group has not yet read (see group bookshelf or this Index of all Group Reads)
- A book that is not better suited to the wild card (genre) category

If you are nominating, please begin your post by stating "I nominate [name with hyperlink to book]"

The discussion will start on October 1st

I am reluctant to nominate this time because I have a moderator pick ongoing and the next open pick in September already.

Bretnie | 838 comments Has The Book of Night Women been discussed? I can't seem to find the indexed list of past books.

I found it and it looks like it hasn't been discussed, so I'd like to nominate it!

Thanks Bretnie

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 447 comments I don't know if it's appropriate to nominate a book in a series. If so I'd like to nominate Transit by Rachel Cusk. I haven't read it, but I think it can be read as a stand alone.

I read it before I read Outline and did not know it was considered part of a series until after I finished. It is written as a book that can be read without having read the others in the series.

Transit was my favourite of the three. They can all be read stand alone.

Good to know. I loved Outline and am looking forward to Transit.

The poll has now closed, and Transit is the winner. Tamara - are you happy to lead the discussion? We will create the folder for you and give you any help you need.

Don't forget our two active discussions - Painter to the King still has a couple of weeks to run, and I'd love to see a few more participants, and I have just started the discussions for The Long Take

Hugh, I would normally say yes. But I haven't read the novel yet, and I'm going to be out of circulation for two weeks until late September. I won't have access to a computer and will have little time to read. So I'm not sure I'll be ready by October 1.

OK, we can probably decide nearer the time - if necessary I (or one of the other moderators) can get the initial threads up and running.
