Hi, Mel, I hope you're doing okay. I
have a question about the genre of your book What They Didn't Burn: Uncovering My Father's Holocaust Secrets. I had occasion to look up an old article in Jewish Review of Books. The article described a genre he called "pantheonization of a revolutionary hero." Then he described a related but less grandiose genre as "a newish genre, less ambitious but more subtle: the Jewish family memoir that is an act of filiopiety but also illustrates broad historical themes." The author says East West Street: On the Origins of "Genocide" and "Crimes Against Humanity" is an example of such a book. So I was wondering if your book would fit that category.
Here's the link to the article; I think nonsubscribers get a free read. https://jewishreviewofbooks.com/artic...
Just wondering since rereading the above made me think of you.

Jonathan Dunsky (dunsky) | 26 comments Hi everyone,

I'm proud to report that the audiobook of my new novel In That Sleep of Death is now available on my website at JonathanDunsky.com. (Goodreads does not allow me to post a link to the audiobook page).

In That Sleep of Death is book 8 in the Adam Lapid series. It's a historical mystery set in Israel in 1952.

The audiobook, like its predecessors, is narrated by Dallin Bradford.

Hint to the membership:

Anybody reading here about In That Sleep of Death and realizing it's a historical novel could nominate it for our current poll. Jonathan can't nominate his own book or ask somebody else to do it, but it's fine for him to announce it here and for anybody to pick up on that.

We could use a couple more nominations for our poll.

In general our author announcements can be a good source of suggestions. So read back through them whenever the inclination strikes.

Louise Ashworth | 1 comments Hi My Name is Louise Ashworth

I wanted to introduce my book (From Paris to Zion)

Based on a true story.

I want to take you on a journey through the life of Francois. Born in the early 60's in the shadow of world war II, into a Jewish family, running a successful hotel business in an affluent district of Paris.

Francois encounters tricky familiy relationships, a continual search for identity and sadly suffers several antisemitic attacks in the street's, all leading to fragile state of mind. Later on in life Francois experiences mental health difficulties leading to repeated break downs.

As middle age approaches just by chance he meets the love of his life Lori, she agrees to help him and together they hatch a plan to leave France. Finally escaping his tormentors and the dreadful psychiatric system, he finds sanctuary in England for a time things are wonderful, although his difficulties are not quite over yet....................

( please would you mind taking a look at the 2nd edition only as the first one has been changed) the correct one mentions the shadow of World War II in the blurb and has a longer secondary book title on the cover. I really appreciate very much you taking a look its on Amazon.

Its on Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk / soon to be on more sites.
Soon to be on (here) also links below

Thank you very much

Greg Marcus (gregmarcus) | 2 comments So excited to share that the audiobook version of "The Spiritual Practice of Good Actions: Finding Balance Through the Soul Traits of Mussar" went on sale a few hours ago, and is already the #3 new release for Jewish books on Amazon!
It has been a dream of mine to have an audiobook version since 2016 when the paperback version came out. Two summers ago I started recording, and after many edits and retakes, I am very proud of the final product. And yes, I am the narrator.
If you'd like to get a copy, it is on sale pretty much anywhere audiobooks are sold.
You can get a free copy with a trial membership of Audible on Amazon. FYI if you use the link below, I will get a small bonus when you sign up or download a copy into your existing account.
https://amzn.to/3xNJiht
Finally, I don't want money to be a barrier for anyone who wants a copy. Just send me a private message and let me know. I have a limited number of low cost or free copies I can distribute, and we'll make sure you are taken care of.

Jason Zeitler | 22 comments I announced the publication of my novel The Half-Caste this past April. It's probably too much to hope for, but if there happen to be any Oklahoma City residents who are members of the Jewish Book Club, please consider checking out my novel from the Metropolitan Library System. The OKC library was one of the few libraries in the US to buy copies of my book before it won an IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award, and so I feel particularly indebted to the OKC library and its librarians. They thought enough of my novel to have bought three copies of it. The Pima County Library in Arizona bought only two copies, and I'm a resident of Tucson.

Nan Zeifman | 3 comments Introducing "The Oracle of Spring Garden Road" by Norrin Ripsman

Good afternoon,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to introduce you to a captivating new novel by Canadian Jewish author Norrin Ripsman titled "The Oracle of Spring Garden Road."

This book tells the poignant and eloquent story of Crazy Eddie, who lived on the streets for twenty years. Through vivid storytelling and richly detailed settings, Ripsman sheds light on the struggles of homelessness and the beauty of human resilience. The novel offers readers a profound appreciation of the adage, "never judge a book by its cover," while exploring themes of love, betrayal, tradition, and the transformative beauty of nature.

Given its powerful narrative and strong connection to Canadian and Jewish culture, I believe "The Oracle of Spring Garden Road" would be a wonderful addition to your bookclub's collection. I would love to discuss the possibility of having it available for your readers.

Amy | 1 comments Hi Readers,

My first cousin, Marsha Temlock, is a gifted writer … and quite the mah jongg player! Several family members love this game.
Marsha has a new novel with this game as a metaphor for a group of women with intersecting life stories.
It’s a terrific read! From Koehler Books: TUESDAY'S MAH JONGG IS MORE THAN A GAME
It even played a role in Marsha meeting her husband, Stephen.
Available everywhere. I hope members will read and review it.
From the synopsis:
“Tuesday’s Mah Jongg Is More Than a Game”
In the ancient Chinese game of mah jongg, each player must make the most of the tiles they’ve been given. It’s the same in the game of life.
Will friends, with ties both old and new, strengthen their bonds as they support each other through life’s challenges? Or will the group fracture, leaving them scattered like mah jongg tiles from an overturned table?

And the best news of all…. it’s not too late to take advantage of the current Ebook sale. From now until August 16th, Uriel Through Eleanor is available for only $.099. That’s right. 99 cents! Less than a dollar! Thanks to my publisher, Next Chapter, for this fantastic promotion. Galina Vromen | 5 comments The book was chosen for Amazon's First Reads newsletter program, which means the Kindle version was released to First Read subscribers a month before the official pub date and the Kindle version was also made to Amazon Prime customers a month before the official pub date. I didn't know about First Reads until the book was chosen but it is actually interesting - it's a newsletter you sign up for (no cost) and they send you nine selections a month, and you can chose any one of them for $1.99. or not. no obligation. It a good marketing strategy so that the books they think should do well already have a lot of positive ratings by the time the official pub date roles around.

Gila Green (goodreadscomggreen) | 1 comments Hi Everyone! I'd like to announce my fifth novel With A Good Eye. This Jewish themed book is a family drama, older YA, with a wide range of Jewish characters: Sephardic, Israeli, Yemenite, Ashkenazi. ABOUT: Luna Levi is an ordinary 19 year old with extraordinary problems. Her mother's acting career is more important to her than the stage of real life. Her father struggles with PTSD as an ex-combat soldier and is equally MIA when it comes to his daughter. The Levis jump from financial crisis to financial crisis until in one-split second someone enters their lives and throws them into the biggest disaster of all. When Luna tries to warn her mother, she is pushed aside and it's the first hint that her mother has every intention of going full steam ahead with a partner who lies - about everything.

Can you ever save anyone but yourself?

Do any of us ever really leave home?
With A Good Eye is available on Amazon/Kindle and next week it will be my first audio book!

I'm happy to have found this group. I'm a filmmaker, screenwriter and author, with a big focus on Jewish genre fiction. I'm best known for my debut book, a graphic novel about Jewish pirates in the 16th century Caribbean called "Jose and the Pirate Captain Toledano." I recently released my first novel, "Wayfarers," which is a Jewish dystopian sci-fi adventure, and a collected special edition of my comic book series, "Ben Mortara and the Thieves of the Golden Table."

I believe that there is very great value in sharing fun, mainstream Jewish stories with a broad, global audience - a value who's urgency I feel all the more on a day like today. I'm looking forward to connecting here and to seeing what everyone's reading these days.
