SOLVED. Fantasy, a girl who was apprentice/assistant to a magician, magical horse statue that turns into a (normal sized) live horse [s]

This request was originally posted by another member and has since been abandoned, but I am interested in the answer myself

A small petite girl who was assistant/apprentice to a magician/wizard/sorcerer and he either dies, or has to go away, but first he gives her some magical items, a magical horse who can make himself big when he wants, or small like a toy horse, a magic bag I think with unlimited depths and a wish ring. When she finishes her first day of travel at a pier/wharf she goes to lift the saddle from the back of the horse, realising her limited strength she says the words "I wish I was stronger" she suddenly turns into a big strong amazon of a woman. Then she's so upset she literally throws herself on the ground and has a screaming fit. Ringing any bells?

I know this book....I'll try to remember it, but now I think I'm in the same boat as you.

I was guessing something by Craig Shaw Gardner or Christopher Stasheff. I haven't seen this one, but I didn't take a good look through them.

Now that I've thought about it, I think maybe it's Pool of Radiance or one of the other ones in that series. My husband remembers it too. I'm almost positive that it's a forgotten Realms book

Your right, it is Pool of Radiance. I went back and had another (read better) look at the copy I own.

No problem. That ones been bugging me for ages. I read the original query and knew it, but couldn't come up with the name.
