One of my all time favorites. I met her niece and got my copy signed by the author:) glad I helped!
The parents of the family got married really young and immigrated to the USA or Canada (if I remember correctly).
They have three daughters. One of the daughters is shy and possibly special needs. One is rebellious.
(view spoiler)[towards the end, the rebellious daughter sleeps with older men. She saves up money to help her little sister. I'm not sure but if I remember correctly, the shy sister had an accident with water and nearly drowns. Or there was a brother that drowned? I distinctly remember one particular section where the author directly addresses the rebellious girl, asking her what her saved up money is for. (hide spoiler)]
