Susan | 1 comments Read it more than a decade ago, no idea on when it was written. I'd assumed over time that it was a Stephen King but can't find anything matching on his bibliography. The killer's chapters were written in a first person POV, if I remember correctly. The boy's started with his mom, who was young and pregnant with him and trying to hide it. The boy was slightly psychic, and I remember some kind of symbolism with the Ace of. Spades. I remember his name being Benjamin because of a creepy section in which the crazy guy tries to find him by using a phone book.

I swear, the name is on the tip of my tongue. Thank you for your help!

Could the boy's name have been Bartholomew? Dean Koontz wrote a book about two children-one whose mother was raped and hid her pregnancy-the other a boy named Bartholomew who had special powers.

There's a scene where one of his uncles tells the boy's fortune using a deck of cards, and the ace of spades comes up four times, as a warning that he's being hunted by someone vicious.

There is a man who is hunting both children, and he does use the phone book to look-in one scene killing the father of a woman named Zelda because he thinks it's such a terrible name.
