Thanks, the only one I read is On the Java Ridge.

Susie I’ve not heard of this prize. Thanks BnB. I’ve only read The Broken Shore, which happens to be a favourite if mine.

It was timely that I found it. I was struggling to decide what to read for the Horizon this month. Going over the list, I realized that I had The Lost Man and so I read it. I would say it is evocative of Australia, but the outback stations and that way of life.

And knowing me, I had to add a couple of more to my TBR.

Idit | 1028 comments I also read The Lost Man. And it created a clear atmosphere. Very distant and different to my Sydney.
The only other I read of the past winners is the Ned Kelly book by Peter Carey. I thought it was great, and it had a good audiobook

Hoping to read Boy Swallows Universe this month, but as always my plans are much bigger than my reality

I forgot you lived in Sydney. I currently have a whole slew of relatives who live in Sydney. My hubby's aunt has lived there since the early 1970's.

In July my niece was married with the bridge and the opera house in the background. It was a beautiful setting. I only saw the video.

Life in Melborne, where Susie lives and Sydney are quite different than the life at a outback station.

While we have hot desert areas in the US, I'm not sure that we have anything compared to that for remoteness. Although after a drive across the US, hubby woke up from a dream and said, "I was dreaming I lived in one of those trailers in Nevada or Wyoming.

Was that a nightmare? :)
Life in Sydney / Melbourne is closer to any western city much more than it is to life in the outback.

And the best thing about Sydney is the views of the harbour (and ocean) and the opera house - so your niece chose well
