I'll go with the Ellroy analogy. I've not read enough of the other two to make the comparison.

Simon (toastermantis) | 206 comments The Evan Tanner novels of Block's sound like something I might find interesting, it looks like the author shares my interest in obscure political/religious history and crafting suspense novels around them but in a less ham-fisted manner than Dan Brown et al. I guess he's trying to do for other historical conspiracies what Hammett did for the Knights Hospitaller in "The Maltese Falcon"?

I'm enjoying time spent in old Europe, the one I grew up in. I find Block's observations quite astute with all that came to pass afterwards.
