I read a book in 2018 or 2019 about Earth survivors on a ship going nowhere in space. The people in the ship are segregated into different levels based on race and wealth; there is a strong racial commentary aspect of the book. People on some levels have developed unclear genders, so gender roles are changing. The main character’s mother died when she was a child, leaving behind a diary that gives clues about the ship’s fate.
