Evie Stevie (eviestevie) | 6 comments I first read this book in paperback in middle school, which would be 1988-1990. It was when I was really starting to get into sci if and I picked it up off the shelves of my middle school library. It was one of the first alternate history books I read and it really left an impression. The main character was male and he was bouncing around in a world ruled by the Incans or Mayans. The scene from the book which has been seared into my memory is him laying in the grass with another character and that other character comparing the alternate worlds to blades of grass and how many variations can exist. The character goes on to explain that each choice in life leads to a different alternate world.
After all this time, I'm really hoping to find another adolescent sci fi geek from the late 80's who knows what I'm talking about!

Evie, did you get a chance to read both those books? Was one of them your book?

There are different covers / edt. here on Goodreads, this is only one of them.
Also, there is a short story collection from Silverberg and 2 other authors, Beyond the gate of worlds.

Evie Stevie (eviestevie) | 6 comments I got my copy of The Gate of Worlds. This is definitely the book. On page 62 is the scene I described above where one character is describing the possibilities of alternate worlds using blades of grass. Yay! After decades of wondering, I have finally found it!
