Noris | 574 comments Jess... So agree with you. Just a comment for the girls that find "radically changed" the relationship between Aelin and Rowan: is amazing, disgusting, creepy, antiqued and so so antifemenist to be mad just because Aelin didn't stayed with the first guy she loved. This is the damn 21 century! And you expect her to fall in love for just one and unique time and to get a happy ever after?????? That's the most unreal thing I ever heard! She's young and a great girl. She will meet people. She will like people and she will find love more than once. It doesn't matter if it's the first one or the 5th... She will choose when she feels good and ready. Is really terrible that still, we girls keep judging other girls (even fictional) for this. Also, am sorry. Every romance can start with a friendship. And no, friendship is just real and amazing when it doesn't involves attraction. Yes, we can accept the qualities in the bodies or the face of our friends, but all that mean nothing for us, is just part of them. But if you feel attracted to it... Baby... There's something more.

Dawn | 182 comments It's my personal belief that the best relationships have a solid base in friendship.

message 1305: by Laura (new)

Laura | 71 comments Dawn I totally agree that the best relationships are built on friendships! I just think Rowan and Aelin went a bit too quickly from friends with a platonic relationship in HOF to really liking each other in QOS. I think the transition could've been a bit better. Also whilst I think it's unrealistic to expect the first person you have a relationship with you'll end up with, I think that Aelin moved on a bit too quickly from each of her past love interests (besides Sam) which annoyed me a bit. Perhaps that's why I'm not completely all for Rowan and Aelin's relationship because she moved on from Chaol pretty quickly in the sense when she got back she basically felt nothing for him despite the fact they had a strong relationship in COM. I guess I'm a bit biased because I loved Chaol and Celaena together and I know Chaol really hurt her with the whole Nehemia situation but I think it could've been dealt with a bit differently. Anyway I do hope Rowan and Aelin stay together because they do suit each other well because I think Chaol was good for Celaena the assassin but Rowan is good for Aelin the fae queen.

I totally agree. I ship Chaoleana, and Rowlin if that makes any sense. I also thought that the situation between Chaol and Aelin could have been handled differently. Celaena felt "home" when she was with him... and I truly believed that Chaol loved her. But it's like Dorian said, he can't pick and choose which parts of her to love. But that doesn't mean he had to be a dick to her for the parts he didn't love about her. Even if he is blinded by his loyalty to Dorian, there was no reason that he should have been such a jerk. I believe if he ever really did love her, their relationship could have been better handled. My opinion.

message 1312: by Grace Meredith (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I SOOO don't see them tho! The chemistry just doesn't make sense. Dorian and Manon are OK, but Doraelin WILL NEVER WORK. They are fab as buddies, and I love them to death when they're pushing each other around. But romance between them would be gross.

I don't mean to insult your ship!!! This is just my very strong personal opinion.

message 1313: by Aki (new)

Aki | 12 comments ahh but i loved doraelin so much in throne of glass xD

message 1314: by Lexie (new)

Lexie I don't fully know how I feel about Doraelin. Technically they are related, deeply but still. But I think they would still be great together. I do think they go well.

message 1315: by Jay (new)

Jay (thesidestare) | 2 comments I absolutely am so in love with this Rowaelin relationship and it makes my heart do strange things and it makes me want to cry and smile at the same time. However, I just thought that Maas could maybe have spent more time describing the transition from what seemed to be a platonic relationship to a romantic one? Personally, I felt like the jump in their relationship from Heir of Fire to QoS was a little too far and could have probably used more elaboration on why they were suddenly noticing each other in a different way!

BUT OMG ROWAELIN FEELS STILL SO REAL.

message 1316: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rjscottie) | 13 comments Rowaelin is life. I ship it more than any of the other ships except Samleana. The banter and protectiveness they have over eachother is adorable.

Josh Rogan | 9 comments See I just have never been able to understand any of this. I read constantly, watch plenty of TV (Arrow/Shield/Flash/etc), and plenty of anime. I have never gotten into 'shipping'. (Other than Sokka/Toph but even that was only jokingly) I feel like it just takes every book series, anime, etc. and just leads to people trying to make them only about the romantic relations of the characters in them. There is so much to the books plot and the characters individually without being defined by who they hookup with, and yet that's like 90% of what people will talk about. Even discussion Manon, the most unlikely character to ever end up in any sort of relationship, is dominated by a debate about her and Dorian ending up together, rather than the amazing development she has gone through and is set up to go through.

Both Aelin and Rowan are awesome characters, and together they're pretty cool as well, but my reading experience isn't defined by them being together. Again I stand by liking them better as friends/partners/Sensei-Padawan than as lovers. Can someone explain to me the appeal of being so invested into a fictional characters love life? Or did I miss out on that by never joining Tumblr when I was a young teen?

message 1322: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 182 comments I think it's more of being invested in the characters as a whole, than it is solely their love lives. Romance and intimacy is a part of living. Being invested in the character/s means you want them to make the best choices for themselves in all things. Discussing and/or shipping relationships for them is a part of the whole.

Josh wrote: "See I just have never been able to understand any of this. I read constantly, watch plenty of TV (Arrow/Shield/Flash/etc), and plenty of anime. I have never gotten into 'shipping'. (Other than Sokk..."

Don't worry, I'm missing out on the too. I'm not into all this shipping business either.

But then again. SJM admits herself in an interview that romance comes before any other aspect of her stories. So, I think that could be a reason.

message 1324: by Grace Meredith (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Well romance is VERY important. But I also love friendships too. I am very invested in my favorite characters.

message 1325: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Same here Grace haha.

message 1326: by Ale (new)

Ale (bookishunicorn) Well, Josh, maybe it's because of the fun of it? I really don't have a super important reason to be so interested in the romance hahaha. It's okay if you aren't, not everyone is. Again, it's fun to see or think about two characters being together and whatnot for ME.

Natalie Woodruff | 23 comments I ship Chaoleana more than Rowlin. But I ship both, if that makes any sense...

message 1328: by [deleted user] (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Natalie wrote: "I ship Chaoleana more than Rowlin. But I ship both, if that makes any sense..."

Arggghhhh too true Natalie. Chaoleana was my baby before Heir of Fire, but now... :(

message 1330: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG!!! Rereading QoS and I found this adorable quote!! "Why," he asked. "Why did you save her?" "Because that golden-haired witch,Asterin...,"Aelin said. "She screamed Manon's name the way I screamed yours."

That is sooooo sweet!!!!!

message 1331: by Xoxoasia (new)

Xoxoasia | 97 comments Same! Even at through Heir of Fire I was still hoping for Chaolaena. I wanted Aelin and Rowan to stay just friends. However, at the beginning of QoS, I fully shipped Rowaelin. It's hard not to.

message 1334: by Rufayda (new)

Rufayda (caramelbooklover04) | 9 comments Nope. #teamchaol all day. Hate the fact the she killed his character so she can please Rowan shippers smh it feels like ToG and COM and HoF/QoS are two different series. I would've liked for her and Rowan to be just friends like in HoF, I mean they went from 0 to 100, so unrealistic. I love Chaol's character because he is so real, he is flawed and made mistakes but the fact that Aelin still treats him like shit for a thing that happened long ago, and the fact that she acts so perfect? wtf. Sarah ruined the character, and I'll never forgive that.

message 1335: by Lexie (new)

Lexie I agree about Chaol, he is a great character and he was quite disregarded in QoS. However, I don't think the character is ruined, I think it was just development. You could see the change at the end of the book, and perhaps everything will make more sense in the next. However there should have been more chapters in Chaol's POV, to make him more understandable. Chaol is still a great character no doubt, and he does not deserve hate.

I don't think Celaena and Rowan's relationship happened unexpectedly though. Their relationship progressed from a kind of mentor and apprentice, to friends, to romantic, you could see it developing in HoF, honestly, it could've been platonic or romantic. And then the time apart made them realise their true feelings for each other. I feel it was done fine. It definitely looks like Rowaelin is gonna be endgame too. I highly doubt SJM will kill off Rowan.

message 1336: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Lol Kai. Love it XD

message 1337: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 44 comments Idk Rufayda. Now I'm saying this as a former ChaolxAelin shipper, so I totally know the pain...but after reading HoF I totally began to ship Rowaelin. Not because I thought that the whole past argument with Chaol would have been too much to get over, but because I believe that Aelin went through significant character development during HoF. Personally I believe that Aelin still blames herself for Nehemia's death as well as the attack on Chaol's face afterwards...and maybe she is ashamed. So in QoS when she's 'acting perfect' I seriously think that it's a façade. She has no idea what she's doing, but because she's Queen, she has to put on a front so that she can inspire confidence. Aelin is a totally different character than Celaena because she has to be. So although she loved Chaol for the majority of the first two books, she still didn't know herself. She needs someone who can love her for herself, and honestly Chaol isn't the man for the job.
Rowan, however, knows the pain that Aelin is going through in HoF, because he's experienced it for himself. And although I admit it did seem like their relationship advanced quickly, it only seemed that way because I hadn't examined the timeline. HoF is looooong. It is a long time to be going through grueling training with the same person every day to not become close friends. Especially considering all that they were able to share with each other during that time. Secrets that Aelin had held inside her during her time in Adarlan came out, and there was honestly a genuine connection when they were able to swap backstories. To top it all off, they're Carranam. A bond so strong that they're able to completely trust each other with their deepest selves. Honestly, I don't think that Celaena and Chaol were even close to that level of trust, despite their physical intimacy.
All in all, after training with each other every day, fighting to keep the other person alive during battle, exchanging witty banter, and completely trusting one another...it isn't too hard to believe that Rowan and Aelin grew very close to each other, even to the point of slight romantic attachment. You can bet your bottom dollar that if I was Aelin and I had left the one person that I knew I could trust halfway across the world, but then he suddenly showed up as a surprise, I would have launched myself into his arms too.
So totally no disrespect on any person's ships because I completely know the struggle, but I believe in Rowaelin ladies :)

Kai P | 30 comments I went on tumblr and I am so deflated right now.

This Manon fan... she cosplayed as Manon and met SJM and had a conversation with her about Manon (duh) and then Dorian popped into the conversation and Sarah apparently asked "What do you think of them two together?"(MANORIAN!) The person said that SJM might of just given something away!!!!! When the person was like "The main ship is Manon and Elide" SARAH SHOOK HER HEAD ! This is low key saying that the ship has sunk before it even sailed! I AM NOT OKAY! I LOVE MANON AND DORIAN BUT NO! DORAELIN!!!!!!!!!

message 1341: by Kai (new)

Kai P | 30 comments I am not giving up hope though

message 1342: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Dorian and Manon so do not work! It cannot be it is just wrong! I hope so desperately that that couple doesn't happen.

message 1344: by Reece (new)

Reece Appleton (sixofstarks) | 1 comments To be honest, my heart always remained with Chaolena. I see Rowaelin really badass as brotp, but there's still a piece of hope in me that either Chaol or Aelin might start having feelings for each other again. I really really hope that Sarah brings in a twist and make some way to make the Chaolena ship sailing again! Although it does seem that Rowaelin is endgame...

message 1345: by Lexie (new)

Lexie It does, but you never know. Don't give up hope! I rather liked Chaolena as well. Though it isn't my top priority who Aelin ends up with. I just love the story and the characters. And Dorian :).

That's totally me!! Chaoleana came first and when that ship sank. I shipped Dorileana and then Rowaleanea!! Now I can't decide between Rowan and Doeian!!! Life is so hard!!

See, I ship characters because I care about them. To me, they're pratically real people and I want them to be happy in the same way that I want my real friends to be happy. I want Aelin to be happy especially considering all the crap she's been through, and right now, it seems to me that she'd be happiest with Rowan. (Plus their relationship is adorable and mutual and I love their chemistry.)

message 1350: by ~Liz~ (new)

~Liz~ | 5 comments I was a chaolina shipper all the way to HOF, now after QOS it appears their ship has sunk. Now i would much rather prefer Dorien over Rowan. I liked Rowan and Celeana's friendship rather than relationship. However in the first three books i didn't like Dorien but now he appears to have matured and grown, so i hope he is at least endgame.
