I'm available for a limited number of editing jobs in October. My rate is $2 per double-spaced page with half upfront and half on completion of the project. I prefer payment through PayPal. I prefer editing fiction, but I will consider nonfiction on a case-by-case basis.
I use Word's Track Changes feature to note changes and comments re: grammar, spelling, punctuation, poor sentence structure, etc. I rely on The Chicago Manual of Style, which is the accepted standard for fiction. I will not make changes to your story, because it is, after all, YOUR story. However, I will prepare a separate report noting plot holes, characters that I think need fleshing out, and anything else that catches my eye.
What qualifies me to edit your book? Besides being an avid reader and a writer myself, I hold a B.A. in English with a Creative Writing Emphasis and a Master of Technical and Scientific Communication (a fancy way of saying I have a technical writing master's degree) from Miami University of Ohio. I worked for nearly eleven years as a technical writer and editor. In addition, I spent ten years as a police officer, so if your book is a mystery or crime thriller, I can often spot what doesn't ring true.
