Kids/YA fantasy book with a couple of siblings (I think they are brother and sister) who are looking for their mom and at some point go back in time to see their mom give birth to one of them, but she has been shifted into the body of a deer. She is giving birth in a cave. If I remember correctly they don't even know who their father is and that's part of their search, to find out who their father is. This was a book I read probably in the late 80's or early 90's but I don't know when it was published. Thank you in advance for any help with this!
