I'm very sorry that I have to be writing this, but it appears that one of our former members, Katia, came to our group, only looking for free books. If you've sent her a book, I'm very sorry, but it appears that she will not be writing a review for it. I do have her email address if you'd like to message her or have an agent message her about this situation.

She messaged me earlier today to ask me that I remove her from the group, which I would not do, as she had agreed to post reviews for your books.

She then tried to insult me using profanity, and quickly deactivated her account. I truly apologize for her unprofessional actions and the theft of your books. That is not something we appreciate at All About YA.

Her messages had been flagged and reported to Goodreads, but she is no longer a member of the Goodreads community.

Again, I apologize, and I am sure that this will never happen in our group again. We have limits as to how many books a member can request per month, and this was an issue of her not reading the rules before she went to the threads for your books.

Bonnie Calhoun (bonniescalhoun) | 27 comments Very sorry you were subjected to profanity. You are too much of a blessing to this group to have to take that kind of disrespect.

All said...most of the publishers that have book blogging organizations of their own have a policy of one book...one review...then you get another book. Maybe that might be a suggestion for here. That reviewers only get one book at a time, and when they post their review then they can have another.

Of course that wouldn't be necessary where the books are free digital downloads because no harm no fowl if it was free to begin with.

But I know the expense of sending out paper books and the cost of books themselves...so it may be an idea...

Ehhh. I guess some people just have to use those kinds of words to make up for not being able to fully express their opinions. It was upsetting, but at least when she deleted her account, everything she wrote went with it.

I think we've only had one author offer a physical book through our program, and for now, we keep it mostly digital just because it's easier for the authors. Shipping costs are way too expensive, especially if you consider that a lot of the people who have requested books on Goodreads in the past aren't bloggers.

I've set up a two books per month rule, and the reviewers have to show proof (in a link) that they reviewed them to be able to request more. I hate that I had to do it, but I want every author in our program to get the reviews.

I think that is a fair rule. I've seen very similar rules in other groups that have books offered for review.

I agree with Hakon below. That's a very fair rule, and thank goodness it's mostly digital books. That keeps mischief to a minimum.
