Max | 16 comments | Round and Round We Go |

Muse A has aways been different. No one knows what genes had to mix or go wrong to result in him, but whatever happened the results were very striking. Born with one golden eye and one violet one, Muse A has always been set apart from the rest. Not to mention his sharp almost elf-like ears and unique ability to contort himself into any shape he wishes. His strange looks, unhuman flexibility and natural agility might have gotten him places if he weren't stuck in the most hopeless orphanage in the middle of no where. He had thought he would never get out of the tiny town he lived in, just a freak trapped in a town where the only job was mining. But when Muse A turned 14 a circus rolled into town and he was star-struck. It was everything he had ever wanted to do and when the owner saw what he could do, he immediately took him on as part of the circus.

As it turns out, that might have been the worst mistake of Muse A's life. He went from being a freak who was trapped in a small town to being a freak forced to work in the circus by an abusive company leader. But on display day after day like meat in a market and punished for every wrong-doing, Muse A is miserable. But one day after a show Muse A retreats back to his trailer to nurse his wounds from the days work, he bumps into Muse B, who got lost trying to find the circus tent. Muse B is horrified by the state of Muse A and after hearing his story, vows to help him out. But fear is a powerful thing, and the circus master knows exactly what to say to keep Muse A in line. Will Muse B be able to save the day, or will fear keep Muse A trapped forever? And what happens when they become more than just friends?

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 1428 comments Where is it?

Charlotte Northwood was walking along the green grass of the circus area. Huge tents the color of red with white stripes surrounded her on all sides. The smell of buttery popcorn and other snacks filled the air. In the sky above, a few birds flew by, chirping their sweet song.

Looking from right to left, she saw red tents on both sides. Charlotte was confused, but she didn't see anyone to ask for help from. As she walked, she wondered how she had ended up in this predictment.

The circus was in town, and this was Charlotte time to have a little fun and get away from her busy study schedule. Although it was summer, her parents were strict on her and had her study in order to stay on top of her grades. After a long conversation last night, she had managed to convinced them to let her come to the circus.

She remember driving and parking. Then from there she begin walking toward the big tent, but somehow she ended up elsewhere. Sure she could see the slightly, bigger tent in the distance, but the more she walked, the more the distance seem to grow between her and the big tent.

Max | 16 comments ((Wait do we want her to see his performance before she bumps into him afterwards? That way she sort of knows who he is when she meets him?))

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 1428 comments (I was thinking he gets hurt before the performance for doing something. That way when he perform he can perform with his limitation because he perform almost perfectly anyway. He makes one slip up and later gets beat or whatever by Singer. She sees this but goes to find him afterward thus bumping into the more injuried Theo. I can change my post though if you want.)

Max | 16 comments "Get the hell out of here before I lose my temper."

Theo flinched slightly as Mr. Singer screamed angrily at him, spit flying out his mouth in his rage. Theo knew that he was supposed to be in the main tent by now. It was 15 minutes to showtime and he was supposed to be ready to go on stage but his recently twisted ankle had been giving him issues. Trivial actions like taking off his shoes or gelling his hair back which had always seemed so easy before now caused him horrible pain. Things that used to take him only moments took him minutes now as he battled through aching muscles and torn skin. The result was that getting ready for shows took him longer now than it had two years ago. He had hoped to be able to sneak into the main tent without the circus master seeing, but luck was not on his side today. Mr. Singer had decided to pay a visit to his trailer and when he found Theo still struggling to finish his stage makeup, he had been outraged. By fortune of time, Mr. Singer had reined himself in from doing any physical damage, as Theo had to go on stage in a couple minutes and instead had yelled his head off about how irresponsible the boy was being.

Stumbling out of his trailer, Theo ducked his head slightly out of habit and started quickly walking towards the main tent. The warm wind blew across his face and bare chest, bringing with it the cheerful smells of the circus. He knew that on the outside the circus was nothing but fun and games, but if only the audience knew what went on behind the scenes of it all. But even though he knew exactly what went on behind the performances, the gentle wind made even the miserable Theo smile. It felt good against the irritated skin on his back, left red and raw from the chemicals used to glue his costume straight onto his back.

He knew that the circus master was still glaring at him as he walked away, he always seemed to have an eye on Theo, worried he might try to run away again. He didn't need to be worried, Theo had learned his lesson the first time, a lesson that had resulted in injuries even the thickest of concealers couldn't always hide.

Max | 16 comments ((Yeah! Sorry for it being unclear!))

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 1428 comments Charlotte was looking to her left when it happened. A big smack was heard in her ears as she ran death into a body. Stumbling back a few steps, she regained her balance within seconds. "You klutz," you said to herself as she immedialey when to straightened her clothes. Which o'course was fine now that she looked back on it.

"I'm so very sorry," she said quickly. Bring her gaze up the first thing she notices is the silly looking costume. It remained her of a bird or angel with its feathery wings. And the fact that he wasn't wearing any shoes didn't help his case. Bringing a hand up, she covered her mouth to hide a giggle. She couldn't help it. He remained her so much of a bird that she was tickled herself. That was until she caught his eyes.

One a royal purple and the other a amber yellow.

It was an very odd eye combination, she thought. How can one have eyes so different yet pretty? She thought the eye colors was due to contacts, but something told her it wasn't. There was something realistic about his eyes. Something unique yet mesmerising.

Shaking her head, she snapped out of her staring. Well staring into his eyes because her gaze floated over his form. He was tall and on the lean side. While he had a good looking face, there were a bruise underneath the makeup he put on. She only can tell because she had gotten a bruise on her face wgen she was hit there when someone, Judy Harrison, pushed a door open during school days. She remember having to go to the restroom and putting on concealer. It wasn't a good job, but she had managed to cover it enough. This boy's bruise was covered, but she could make the faint outline of it.

Catching herself staring again, she quickly apologized. Stupid klutz girl! "I-um.. Yeah!" She met his gaze once more. A polite smile was on her face. "I'm looking for the big tent. I'm assuming you work here with your," she gestured to his costume. It occurred to her that this guy didn't have to be working at a circus to be dressed like that. He could be a fan copying one of the performers for all she knew. Blushing lightly, she said, "Well I'm a bit lost. If you could point me in the right direction, I'll be so very grateful."

Max | 16 comments Only dancer's grace saved Theo from falling over his own feet as he smacked directly into something... or rather someone. Theo knew the tent setup like the back of hand. Unable to sit still he spent a lot of his time pacing around the tents the pathways like a caged animal. As a result, when something was out of place, he usually noticed it. There wasn't supposed to be anything between his trailer and the big tent other than an old shed were they kept the puppets and there certainly weren't supposed to be any people here. This was off limits to the public and as a result he hadn't expected to run into anyone. Stumbling back in surprise he righted himself after a moment, mismatched eyes staring widely into the settling darkness of the evening.

"Uh. Sorry." He muttered nervously. It had been a very long time since he had spoken to anyone that wasn't a part of the circus in an extremely long time. Much less a pretty girl like the one that was standing in front of him right now. The prettiest girl in the circus cast was Alexandra the trapize artists who was stunning, but a good ten years older than him and not to mention, married. She was always kind to him, but she treated him like a kid. So did most of the other cast if they weren't the kind that were screaming at him. He had practically fogotten how to talk to anyone outside of the circus world. After stammering through a couple of inteligable sentances he finally blinked a couple of times before saying the first thing that came to his mind when she mentioned him working here.
"No I just like dressing up like a dying bird." He snapped, voice sharp as a razor. Nope. That's not how you talk to girls. Theo winced inwardly but it was too late to take back what he had said. He just hated the costume so much. It might look majestic when he was on stage but it hurt like hell to put on and he couldn't help the snappy response before he even thought about it.

He was so in his own head that he didn't even notice her staring openly at him, lost in thought.
"Oh i'm heading there too... just follow me. It's right over there." He pointed over the pathway to where the big tent was. Nervously he glanced behind him once more, feeling as if Mr. Singer was going to appear suddenly behind him and hit him for stopping when there were only 10 more minutes until he was on stage. Of course, there was nothing but empty air behind him but Theo still started walking quickly.

Max | 16 comments ((Awesome! Great to know. But they probably will get a little bit shorter as time goes on.. sorry!))

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 1428 comments Charlotte was slightly surprised by his snappy retort. She haven't expected the performer to respond to her in such a way. She wondered if he was having a bad day or was just a little annoyed about something that had happened earlier. Brushing off his tone, she continue to give a polite smile.

Hearing him say that he knew the way to the big tent gave her a relief feeling. She didn't know what she would do if she was left to wander the grounds to herself. She would have ran the risk of missing the show on top of things. Her smile turned into a grin with his offer to escort her to the tent.

The circus grounds were bigger than she thought, and she haven't wanted to spend her day walking around amiss. She really did wanted to see the show. This year there was something unique that was going to happen at the circus. She didn't know what, but she hoped that something was going to impress her silly.

Following him, she huffed out a breath of air at his fast strides. Why was he walking so fast, she wondered. Nevertheless, she jogged a little to keep up with him. Once she was at his side, she begin to match his pace. "Thank you for doing this. I'm such a stupid girl sometimes." She looked ahead. "Anyway I like your costume. "

Max | 16 comments Theo couldn't help but smile faintly at her self-depricating comment.
"I got lost the first time I came here." He admitted in a soft voice. The first time he had been taken behind the big tent into the training and living areas, he had been stunned. It had all seemed so normal, even a little bit run-down. Most of the performers lived in trailers or semi-permenant tents. There was nothing exciting or fun looking about it but it was certainly confusing. Every time he tried to find his trailer he would end up in the storage yard or in the training tent. The other performers were usually kind to him, especially the strong man, Jack. He was sort of Theo's older brother in the circus and had always showed him his way back to the trailer. It had only taken a couple of days though for him to learn the shortcuts and pathways. Even though they were a travelling circus they tended to stay in one place for long periods of time and almost always set up camp the exact same way.

As they walked, Theo couldn't help but continually glance behind him. Ever since he had learned the true manner of Mr. Singer and been subject to his cruelty, he had gotten the feeling that he was always being followed. As if the circus master was always a few steps behind him, ready to pounce if he said or did the wrong thing. Sometimes he was actually behind Theo, but tonight it was just Theo's anxieties getting to him. His tired legs ached a little bit as he sped up his walk even more, if he was late for the start of the show he was terrified of what might happen to him. He had no doubt that Mr. Singer could deal out worse punishment than he had when Theo had tried to run away, even though it was hard to imagine anything worse than that night.

"I'm glad one of us likes it." He muttered, shaking his head with annoyance, his eyebrows drawn tightly together. The huge outline of the big tent came into focus as they neared it. Even though he hated his life here, Theo couldn't help but feel a little bit awed every time he saw the tent. It truly was spectacular, bright and colourful, it elicited a feeling of joy in anyone who saw it. It made Theo feel even better seeing it up despite the wind, because he had been one of the people helping to set it up and it had been almost impossible. Seeing it just standing made him feel a spark of pride.

"The audience member entrance is there." He told the girl, pointing towards the brightly coloured signs that decorated the front of the tent.
"I hope you enjoy it." He said, although he wasn't smiling when he did. Theo truly wanted her to enjoy it, that's what the circus was about after all, but he certainly wasn't going to enjoy it. His routine twisted his body into ways he knew he shouldn't move and the costume only made it worse. Each time he came away from a performance aching and humiliated. The wost thing about it was that Mr. Singer always made sure he was just healthy enough to go on stage. Theo knew he had a talent and a look that wasn't easily replaceable and Mr. Singer knew that too. As a result he always made sure his performer was able to perform properly, but never feeling strong enough to fight back against the injustice of his cruelty.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 1428 comments (Ill have something up tonight. I been busy in real life sorry for making you wait)

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 1428 comments Watching him silently, Charlotte couldn't help wondering what his life was like here in the circle. She notice the negative reaction of his face when he responded to her comment about his outfit. She couldn't tell rather he was being sarcastic or honest. In all truth, she was curious about him. What was his story? How did he come to be? And what is the deal with those pointed ears of his?

Seeing the tent in the distance, a grin formed on her face. She was a little more than relieved to see it. She wouldn't miss the show. What's more she would get to see him perform. The laugher from children and adults came from the tent. The show must be about to start, she concluded.

She looked back at the performer seeing him pointing toward the entry she was to go through. Looking in that direction, she spotted a group of three. Two parents and a child entering the circus tent. "Thank you" She told him. "I know I'll enjoy the show." She hoped her assurance would help put him in a happier mood.

"I'll see you inside." She brushed a lock of her hair behind her right ear. She wasn't sure what one do in situations where one was parting ways. "I wish you luck in your performance too." She added as an after thought. Turning she took a few steps before turning back to look back at him. Giving him a wave goodbye, she contiuned walking toward the entrance.

Max | 16 comments Theo could feel her watching him, her gaze burning into his skin like flames themselves. He had never gotten used to being watched, even if it was the biggest part of his job. Two years in the spot light had taught him to ignore the crawling feeling he always got when people saw him in his costume, but occasionally he still felt the nervous tingle in his stomach when the audience first laid eyes on him. He had always been abnormal, even in the eyes of the other kids at the orphanage, many of whom could also be considered strange. His eyes and elfin-like ears had always set him apart from the crowd no matter how hard he tried to hide it. He had grown his hair long to cover the points of his ears when he was younger but Mr. Singer had made him cut it to show off all his strange features. The eyes were a constant curse that he couldn't do anything about. The orphanage had low funds as it was, they weren't about to spend precious money on contact lenses for a self-concious child. People always stared at him as he went by at he hated it so much. When he had joined the circus he had thought maybe he would learn not to hate it so much anymore, but he had just gotten more used to the constant discomfort of it all. It didn't help that all he had was pants on.

He was relieved when they finally reached the tent. The girl would go and stop staring at him, and he could get the show over with. He was the final act so he still had some time to get ready and make sure his costume was totally stuck on. It had fallen off in one performance and Theo had learned a new level of pain from Mr. Singer. He smiled softly at her, a bittersweet expression that in no way convayed happiness at all.
"I'm glad you believe so much in our abilities." He said and his voice held no contempt or anger. He truly did want her to enjoy the show. These people paid to be taken out of reality for a while and even though Theo had to suffer in order for that to happen, he still didn't want to deny the people their right to happiness.

He returned her wave and watched her walk away towards the entrance until he was sure she would be able to get in. The sound of audience clapping brought him out of his thoughts and he slipped into the backstage area to prepare. He knew the exact order of the show, how much time each act took and who was on after. He knew what props were needed and what set and how likely Mr. Singer was to hate the performance. Two years day in day out of the same thing had drilled the routine into his mind.

First out was the strong man Alex, a kind gentle giant with arms of steel. He could hear the audience's gasps of amazement before letting himself tune out and mentally prepare himself to go on. He always had to do stretches beforehand and then some breathing excerises to get him into the right mindset. Before he knew it, the two magician had done their set and it was his turn onto the stage. Taking a deep breath, he clenched his eyes shut for a moment and then stepped into the hot lights of the tent. At first he just stood there, letting his eyes adjust to the lights as he always did. Mr. Singer had told him to just stand for a moment and let the audience take him in. In his costume with the lights and his strange features, he was already quite a sight to see. Theo was forever greatful for the chance to stand still because that way he got to take a good look at the audience. His gaze ran over the river of people and seats, taking in little children with cotton candy and couples with their hands intertwined. He liked to see the people because it reminded him why he had chosen to do this in the first place. He wanted to make people happy, to make them amazed and awed and stunned by the way the world worked if just for 15 minutes. His gaze settled on a mass of wavy brown hair and a face he recognized and he smiled slightly. It was the girl who had gotten lost. He really did hope she would enjoy his performance.

A couple seconds later he threw himself full force into his performance. The performance was a mix between the trapeze, ground acrobatics, ariel ropes and dance. He had no safety harness and the only thing keeping him from falling was his own abilities. Every performance took so much concentration that he was sure one day he would get too tired one day and fall and break his neck or something. Every breath he took was in line with his movements as he was from the ground to the air again and then back. But for those 15 minutes of his performance, he forgot about everything else. He forgot about Mr. Singer, he forgot about how much pain he was in, he forgot about the girl sitting in the third row who had stared at him, all that mattered was the music and his movements. The whole routine went smoothly until the last flip. The hardest part of his routine involved jumping from ariel rope to trapeze and then flipping off and landing on a balancing beam below him. He had done it hundreds, even thousands of times before in practice and other performances but today was different. His ankle was acting up and he was just so tired. He knew something was wrong even as he was falling through the air, turning faster and faster as he went. He had thrown his momentum too far and when he stretched out to meet the beam, his ankle met the soft wood with a horrible crack. Pain shot through his leg and he wobbled, flinging out his arms slightly to keep his balance. He managed to not fall off after much effort but the grimace on his face was visible to all. It was not so much the pain he was in now that caused the horrified look on his face, but rather the pain he knew was to come from his little accident.

Far too slowly, the lights dimmed and he carefully dismounted from the beam, limping off stage with his heart beating so hard he thought it might burst from his chest.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 1428 comments Once inside the tent, she searched the sitting area for a spot to sit. The seating area was crowed with people of all ages and sizes. Some were chatting away. Others were pointing at the elephants that were making their way around the ring. She couldn't help but smile. The circus was something special in it's own way. The excitement in the children eyes was enough to make her wished she could relive those innocent days.

Finally, she spotted a vacant seat. It was on the second room near the front. Quickly she made her way toward the seat. She didn't want anyone to get the seat before she did. Besides that the seat was a good one. It wasn't too close to the front, yet it wasn't far away nor was it blocked by tall people. Reaching the seat, she took a seat. letting out a breathe of air, for she had practically ran over, she set her gaze forward. Around her everyone begin to cheer.

Near the center of the ring, a large, muscular man stood. The strongman Her mouth opened a little as she watched him lifted weight that was well over his own body weight. It never cease to amaze her that there were people out in the world that could lift three people at a time. When he finished his act, she stood up with the crowd and clapped. As he turned to head back into the backstage of the tent, two oddly dressed people came from behind the curtains.

The ring leader introduced them as his magicians. While they act was all sparks and flashy, Charlotte found them to be a bit on the showing off side. Not that she didn't enjoy the performance, but to say they could use magic was a bit over the top. In her mind, magic wasn't real. It was an illusion. Nevertheless, she clapped her hands once they were finished.

Waiting for the next act had proven to bring her some excitement. The energy the ring leader gave off combined with the crowd's energy made her feel a sizzling in the air. Before she knew it, she saw him.

The man from before. He stepped out under the lighting of the big tent. She watched him. He stood there like a model allowing all eyes to focus on him. His costume and the lighting seem to went together. It was light he was made for this. Mouth opened a little further, she saw him throw himself into the air, performing tricks and turns she never seen before. when he reached a point where she thought he might fall and hurt himself, she half rose from her seat. There was no safety equipment on him anywhere. And he was so fast! He was truly a sight to see. Her gaze followed his every move.

Then it happened.

She saw the moment his foot touched the wooden beam. She saw how it twisted to the side just slightly, enough to look abnormal. But he found a way to catch himself. However the look of pain on his face was one that had her standing up. It was like she could feel the pain he was going through. The crowd made a gasping noise that dimmed down the once cheering group. As he right himself, she stood there gaping while the crowd when on to cheer and clap at his performance.

As the light fade to black, she saw him turned to head backstage. Quick as she could she moved between people. She didn't know why she felt the need to see if he was ok. Well she did. He had clearly hurt himself back there. Not to mention the bruises he had and the slight limb in his steps. Her thoughts flashed back to walking beside him. She got through the crowd, stepping out into the alley way. Walking fast, she made her way out of the tent to head backstage. Maybe just maybe she could catch him before he returned to his own tent.

Max | 16 comments The darkness of the blackout felt overwhelmingly calming as he limped off. Without the bright lights announcing his expressions to every audience member out there he could let his face once again fall into a twisted look of pain. He gasped softly as his ankle sent another searing pain up his leg. Injuries weren't a new thing for him to deal with. He was a gymnast and a dancer, his job almost required him to get injured. Trying out new routines often ended up with twisted ankles and bruises and scraps. He almost always had a band-aid over something and heaps of makeup on to cover the marks on his face and chest that weren't covered by his costume. He had never gotten injured on the stage though. His routines were so thoroughly practiced that he felt like he could do them with his eyes closed. His muscles went through the motions and while he needed constant concentraion to keep himself safe, usually he just let his body lead him where he needed to go. Messing up on stage not only worried him but a wave of self-doubt washed over him. He had never doubted his own abilities. He knew that he was a great gymnast, but what kind of great athlete messed up something they had done so many times?

These thoughts ran wildly through his mind as he stepped off the stage and into the back area. None of the other acts had seen his mess up since they were too busy getting ready for their acts or recovering from already being on stage. The only one to notice the mistake was the man who was always watching, Mr. Singer. Theo was sure he had to have eyes on the back of his head because that man didn't miss a thing. He could tell when one of his dancers wasn't smiling widely enough, or if a costume piece was slightly wrinkled, he saw everything and he punished people harshly if he didn't like what he saw.
"I don't feed you and house you for you to go out there and dissapoint my audience." He hissed the moment Theo was far enough off stage the the audience wouldn't see him. All other thoughts disappeared from Theo's mind when he saw Mr. Singer, replaced by a singular fear of the man before him.

Mr. Singer grabbed him by the arm, tight enough to hurt and dragged him out the back of the tent. That way he could yell at him without being heard. Theo bit back a whimper as he struggled to keep up with the circus master's quick steps.
"I-I'm sorry... I-" He started before being interupted.
"Sorry doesn't cut it sport. You're here to be perfect. Nothing less. What I saw out there was not just imperfect, it was horrible." Mr. Singer screamed, his face turning red with displeasure. Theo was used to the yelling but he still jumped a little bit, high strung from always having to be on guard.
"I-" He started again, wobbling pitifully as he tried to keep the weight off of his injured foot. Suddenly Mr. Singer's face melted into a theatrical look of concern as he glanced down at Theo's ankle.
"Oh... does it hurt?" He said with mock pity. "Well good, it should be a good reminder about what happened today. Now go back to your tent, I don't want to look at your sorry face anymore today." He growled and tapped Theo's ankle harshly with the cane that was part of his circus master costume. It was just a firm tap but it hurt like hell against Theo's already injured leg. Gritting back another gasp of pain, Theo just tilted his head down submissively and followed Mr. Singer's command to go back to his tent. It was going to be a long walk back...
