priya (gpriyaa) I just plainly have no idea

Pidge15 | 33 comments A title, finally!

I had fun playing the guessing game. Cheers to all of those who got the 'Queen' part. It seems so obvious now doesn't it?! I don't remember who said Throne, Crown, Heir, and now Queen but nice tie in!

I like the monochromatic color ideas you are throwing out there! Shadow-y, black and white... Maybe one small splash of color? A piercing eye with color, or one lit flame somewhere...?

Idk

Because Lorcan was in HoF LOL

message 170: by priya (new) - rated it 1 star

priya (gpriyaa) Wait wait wait. HE IS?! Wait I think I kinda remember he came with the other cadre right??

message 171: by Blake (new)

Blake Farron To be honest, the 'swoon-worthy romance' tagline annoys me, because I picked this series up since it sounded like an amazing fantasy, not a romance.

But anyway, Lorcan was in HoF??

message 172: by priya (new) - rated it 1 star

priya (gpriyaa) That swoon worthy Romans annoyed me too. Why don't people realize that no one really wants 'swoon worthy romance' in a fantasy

Lorcan came with the cadre to help rowan!!!!! I completely forgot about this!!!

message 173: by Blake (new)

Blake Farron Hmmm, why can't they advertise a cool fantasy series as a cool fantasy series? If I want to read something High Fantasy, like ToG, I want cool, mature relationships, that aren't the main point of the story. The 'swoon worthy romance' line just opposes this

Oh, yeah, I remember now!

message 174: by priya (new) - rated it 1 star

priya (gpriyaa) Same for me. I started really getting into high/epic fantasy because it had the highest possibility of having romance being a side story. I also hate that line because I really started liking this book after CELAENA broke up with dorian, it really shows how not concentrated TOG is on romance (celaena broke up with dorian because she knew it was never going to work, not because of her love for chaol which a lot of other books would have made it about). I also really really loved how chaol chose his duty over Celaena that was amazing and how celaena reacted. A major part of why I like this series is because it's NOT a 'swoon worthy romance' it's just an high/epic fantasy concentrated on plot.

message 175: by Blake (new)

Blake Farron Hmm, that's what I really liked about it too! But now it just focuses on her many many love interests, which annoys me to no end. A high fantasy story should NOT revolve around a love triangle - and even worse, multiple love triangles, a love polygon!!

message 176: by [deleted user] (new)

I think ToG is one of the very few series where the romance adapts to the plot-lines, and not the other way around. Like, the main focus of the book isn't on C/A's relationship. We only feel like it is because we're too busy shipping her with the super-hot guys XD

message 177: by Blake (new)

Blake Farron Actually, I think ToG doesn't really do the romance well at all. In ToG I thought it was pretty obvious she liked Chaol, but I didn't care if they didn't get together there and then. She had more important things to focus on, like the tournament, so the sudden romance with Dorian just sticks out like a sore thumb, and nobody even likes love triangles anyway. Her whole romance with Dorian was unnecessary if she was just going to get together with Chaol, and getting over him didn't even serve for character development (since she already got over Sam). That and the whol dating someone then hookingup with his or her best friend thing is seriously the lowest anyone can do, even if it's for Chaol.

I think CoM did it really well though, since she only had the one love interest, and it was actually key to her character development, but didn't stick out like a sore thumb and melded together nicely.

HoF was just stupid with romance because Dorain and Sorscha was just to boring, and Rowan was an utterly detestable character.

There we are, the completely 'swoon-worthy' romance where the only thing I'll be swooning from is it's terrible execution

Agreed :) We all know it's good that the series focuses more on the story/plot than the romance.
