message 6: by Fanja (new)

Fanja Evers (fanjat) | 53 comments Acknowledgments, table of contents, some more pages about how the author's rights support humanitarian action in India, Africa and South America and how the readers can also support it, more books by the authors published by Pocket (the publishing house).

Emily | 17831 comments We would count the acknowledgments and table of contents if it is at the end. I don't think we would count the pages about the humanitarian work but someone can correct me if that is wrong. We do not count lists of more books.

Fanja Evers (fanjat) | 53 comments The general rule as I've always seen it is that publishers count all pages (even when blank), book cover excluded. That is, most of the time, the story of a book of 500 pages really starts at page 7 or 11, or even 35 if there is a preface, etc, and will end at around page 480, or 492, etc (whatever comes after). Which means that if we only count the text of the story, it's closer to 460-470 pages than 500 pages but the publisher will still state 500 pages.
I don't really mind if you count 600 pages or more, the difference is meaningless and I understand that you have to refer to an official site but what I found funny in this case is that none of the sites agree on the right page count and the publisher himself is clearly mistaken as they state 640 pages on their website (https://www.lisez.com/livre-de-poche/...) whereas it's no more than 624 pages if we count all pages. As to Worldcat, I'm not sure what they refer to.

Emily | 17831 comments I was just trying to clarify which pages should be counted beyond the 600 before updating the page count for this book. It's not uncommon for different sources to all have different page counts which is quite weird indeed.
