Ian Conrey Hey everyone, I see I'm the first person to post in this thread since early 2017, but I figured i'd introduce myself anyway. I mostly write fiction prose (and the occasional blog), but in my novel I wrote several ballads. I joined this group because I would love to discuss with (and learn from) others about the art of poetry!

Amber Wolfe | 1 comments Hi!

My name’s Amber and I’m a newly published poet, thanks to Amazon’s kindle direct publishing program. I’m really hoping to get more reads and reviews on my first book, Pantheon. I’ve always loved poetry and I’ve been writing free verse and slam for two years, now, and I’m already working on my next book, tentatively titled “Sara”.

I’m really excited about being in a group for poetry and getting to connect with more poetry enthusiasts!

My name is Anneliese Dahl, and I recently published two collections of poetry with beautiful illustrations by JD Pernoste. The first is "in these flowers of Eden", mostly short soulful, romantic, melancholic poetry, and the other is "Under Forgotten Skies", short soulful vignettes and stories. Reviews are mostly from Europe (not shown in Amazon US) but very well-received. Yes, poetry doesn't sell, but the value of it is inestimable for those of us who appreciate it.

A kind of lie

I catch myself in lies
too often,
trimming down Truth to “truth”,
as just a cunning way
to fool myself,
to lie
and feel good for a time…
or else I use pure Truth,
unvarnished and unkind,
wielded like a hammer
in sweeping self-accusation
just for being human.
That’s a kind of lie, too,
I think.

in these flowers of Eden
under forgotten skies

Joseph Murphy | 19 comments In Marshall

The news is not good: refugees huddle
in a muddy field. Channel surfing,
I’m drawn to their story,
again and again.

Like me, many in jeans; jackets
with a team logo.

Many in traditional dress
had survived a similar dread
when young.

I had left family and familiarities
without fear: traveled cross-country;
19-years-old; exhilarated.

Setting down the remote, I set out
to walk our quaint,
Midwestern main street.

Seeing my reflection
in a store’s window, I’m shaken
by the finality
of lineage and chance.

Beautiful and inspiring poetry about different life subjects, about my relationship with God and how I turn to Him. Other poems are just beautiful, some are for children. And the photographs (which I took myself) complement the writing.

I invite you to look at the book trailer in the Video section of my Author’s page on Goodreads.
