Ayman is the very definition of a home grown terrorist. Given that the US provided his family safe harbor after the disaster is Syria, why do you think he was so angry about his changed circumstances in America, enough to become radicalized? Do you think, even up to his death, that he’d thought this through? Did he have any regrets joining The Brethren?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments His parents brought him to the US for the families safety. All he could see was the dishonor in their current circumstances, no thought that if they had stayed in Syria they could all have ended up dead. He was totally brainwashed, no thoughts for his family, best friend, just his hate for what he considered the disrespect he suffered. I don't think he had any regrets, I kept hoping he would.

I never saw any sense of regret, either, even though he saw through Darwish. Maybe his father could have done a better job of pointing out to him of the privileges they were enjoying despite their changed economic circumstances. That anger didn’t develop overnight. And, his father seemed rightfully concerned, enough to follow him.

Laura I agree with you both.
