Any of Ivan Doig's books..... a lovely author, sadly dead.

I’d love to read and discuss Plain Song. I was just coming here to suggest Our Souls At Night by the same author. :)
I also would be interested in reading Ivan Doig. The Sea Runners was a book I still think about, and I’ve heard good things about his other books.
And Educated was a very interesting book, too.
Mela wrote: "What rules are? What kind of book are for this group?"Hi Mela, thanks so much for joining. I hope we can read a wide variety of books in this group, but all will be fiction.
I was thinking along the lines of a spooky read for October !
Thanks Karen : )
I love seasonal reads :DHow about a gothic novel? Something by Ann Radcliffe maybe? Or any of the Northanger Horrids?
Or something by Shirley Jackson?

Or something by Shirley Jackson?" Shirley Jackson sounds great.I've only read two of her books so far, 'The Haunting of Hill House' and 'We have always lived in the castle'.
Loved both of them. What others do you recommend?

what about Dark Tales? Its a collection of shorter works, but definitely in the spooky category. I think The Lottery is one of her more famous works like Haunting and Castle and it is not included in Dark Tales, but is in The Lottery and Other Stories.... maybe one of those?

I got an invitation to the group and popped on to see that Shirley Jackson's Dark Tales is the October book, so I'll join in on that one, in fact I've started it and love it!

November Read - "Brooklyn" .....
I read this a couple of years ago.... I loved it, and found it very moving. The film of the book was actually very good, although I seem to remember they changed the ending a bit. Hope everyone likes it as much as I did. I reviewed it on here and have the same opinion of it now - and still love Com Toibin's writing!

Hello Karen, that's great.I'm looking forward to reading Tangerine too. I've heard good reviews on it.
Thanks so much for the great suggestions for the group to read, i've added some to our upcoming reads list. : )
Karen, you have chosen great novels to read. Unfortunately, this year (at least to September) I am able to participate only four times. The other books I am not able to find. I am really thrilled about these I have found. Again: you have chosen novels that sound marvelously.
