Mica (nuclearwintre) | 7 comments Is there a formal place to request a work be edited by a super librarian? I recently tried to merge editions of a best selling book but couldn't because it had to be done by a super librarian.

Miriam | 1831 comments There is a thread titled "Please delete this book" pinned to the top of the Book Issues folder. You can post any merge requests that need a super in that thread.

Mica (nuclearwintre) | 7 comments It seems odd to me that there isn't a specific thread for super librarian requests. It would not occur to me to go there as I am not trying to actually delete the separated audible editions as that would remove the reviews associated with them.

Renske | 12220 comments That thread is the specific thread for merge requests that need a super librarian. Actual deletions are only a small part of the requests there.

Arenda | 26447 comments From the Librarian Manual:

Combine versus merge

While combine and merge are generally considered synonymous, Goodreads Librarians often use the two words to mean distinctly different things.

Combining means taking two or more editions and linking them into one work. No editions are deleted, so you have the same number of editions before and after a combine.

Merging means combining two editions that are actually duplicates, and then deleting one. An edition is deleted, so after a merge, you will have fewer editions than before. If a merge is performed correctly, all ratings, reviews, and shelvings of the deleted edition will be moved to the edition with which it was merged (or the most popular edition, if it was merged with a group of editions).

When you need a superlibrarian to combine a book that has too many shelving/reviews for a regular librarian to combine, you can just start a new thread and mention in the title of the thread "Superlibrarian needed to combine very popular book" or something similar.
