So I finished the book. I admit that I didn't think it was that good. The 'twist' at the end wasn't that much of a surprise, and ending a book without any resolution at all is often risky, and I feel like this time it didn't work. I can understand why this book didn't win the Hugo.

I did enjoy the premise, even if I didn't care for most of the characters. I'm not sure if I'll read the sequel though.

Was this book up for the Hugo? I'd be surprised if it was. It was essentially a zombie novel with a facelift. I don't have much interest in reading the sequel.

So Sal is a parasite. I guess that leaves some questions outstanding, but I don't really care about the characters enough to want answers. Most of these people just were not believable.

Did anyone else wonder why the date was listed at the beginning of each chapter? Every single chapter except the first two took place in August 2027. Why include the dates if the timespan of the book is negligible? This is one of the many bizarre oddities of the book.

Next.
