Your description sounds weirdly like The Midwife' s Song by Brenda Ray. It's just like you describe, but told from the point of view of the midwife, Puah; not Ramses daughter. Puah is tellling the story of Moses' birth to her grand daughter. Probably not it, but I figured I'd toss that out there.

The book is Buster Midnight's Cafe by Sandra Dallas Buster Midnight's Cafe

I tried to post earlier, so this may be a repeat. I'm kind of new to this so forgive me if I already did. Anyway, this sounds a lot like The Midwife's Song by Brenda Ray, but that is told from the point of view of the midwife, Puah, and is told to her granddaughter in her old age. There is a lot about the daughter of Ramses, and the plot seems like you mention. I'd have to read again to make sure though. The Midwife's Song: A Story of Moses' Birth
You probably looking for Hanna Crafts who wrote The Bondwoman's Narrative. She was a slave when she wrote that novel.
Sorry, the right spelling of her name is Hannah Crafts. She wrote the novel after she escaped from slavery.
It could be Sarah E. Farro. Her novel True Love: A Story of English Domestic Life was published in 1893 and as the title suggests was about white English people.
Here is an article about her and the book: Sarah E Farro: Why was one of only four African-Americans to publish a novel in the 19th century forgotten?

Quick query, I'm off to Split in Croatia tomorrow and staying next to Diocletian's Palace.I wondered if anyone knew of any novels of Imperial Rome set there? I half think I've read one previously. It'd need to be on kindle though as I've left asking the question too late.

I think you should ask this in a Recommendations thread rather than this one. This is for books that people are trying to remember from long ago, so might not get the same attention as a recommendation request looking for new book ideas.
Here's the folder where you can start a new thread for your request. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Frances wrote: "James Clavell maybe? I think Shogun had a ship on the cover, don't remember Taipan's cover--does either ring a bell?"That makes two of us. I read this book so long ago, I don't remember the cover. Sorry.
James Clavell "Taipan" one issue had a ship on the cover and also Noble House had a ship on the cover
Just came accross this thread. Just what I need. Started reading a book by Dilly Court about 2 women working as singers and hostesses in a drinking establishment. It was probably nineteenth century. They were doing it to make money to help their brother who was in prison. They are being helped by thier thespian aunt. Any ideas of the title?
Help! Any ideas on a series of HF books I looked at a long, long time ago... I'm hoping to find a series of novels set in the 16th-c., in the midst of the French Wars of Religion. The author was himself French, and I believe the books were translated into English in the late 1940s or early 1950s. The setting is mostly Paris, but there are excursions into Hungary as well. That's really all I recall, so many years later. Does any of this ring a bell at all?

Help! A 5 star book dropped off my good reads list and can't remember the name. The mane character retires as a British soldier in India after finding some jewels on a dead body. Comes home to England with plans to start a freighting buisness. Gets some railroad maps from a railroad tycoon and on the way runs into a young girl who has run away from a very wealthy father who runs a sweatshop mill and is trying to force her to mary an older guy. The freighting buisness explodes and after he gets hurt the wife runs it for a year.
